~Strange sounds have been heard outside of New Pallet, The Ambassador urges trainers to be ready in case of an attack~
Summer is kicking in Port City! The temperature averages about 78°F (25°C) with a bit more rain than usual. Thunderstorms pop up every once in awhile, but overall, the sun is shining, the water's warm, and it looks like it'll be a great summer for the colonies.

Maybe it was just her imagination, the way the trees seemed to move about, the wind carrying the conversation of whispering leaves from tree to tree. Her Riolu, Perseus, seemed as mesmerized as she was, and she wondered how far out of Port City it had been. By way of its eyes glancing between locales, Nephele took vigil of its natural sense of curiosity. At times, it would run to the far end of a path, to look out to whatever lay beyond. During these short excursions, Nephele wondered whether she should approach Perseus, perhaps risking encouraging this, or continue onward. As compromise, she halted and simply waited for him to walk back, and he did so every time so far.
"What did you see this time, Perseus?" asked she, the Riolu only looking up when it heard its name, an attentive though thoughtfully distant expression. Nephele gestured with a glance of her eyes and nodded with her head to point to whatever clearing he had visited just before. Confused, it's eyes narrowed a moment before looking back to where she pointed, a spark of recognition, then faced her once more, eye's brimming with interest. "Was it interesting?" Perseus barked in response, his feet skipping, it chattered on a while then, various barks and gestures with its hands, Nephele unable to understand the words but listening instead at the tone, the high notes of its speech and at the pace with which it spoke. It had to be something of some magnitude, the way it's arms swept outward and patted its paw in the air as if to count. It then made a pulled a paw upward, letting it sit in the space out from and above its head--perhaps something tall. Riolu drew a cap over this height, then from the cap, several cord-like gestures, as if something was suspended. Nephele wondered a moment. No bug pokemon had been documented here, but perhaps...
Nephele looked back, too short to peer above the canopy of course, but noticed a tree in the distance, taller than the rest. Was it talking about that? "The Tree, Perseus?" It ceased, looking up at her so attentively. Did I guess right? "Here. Let me show you," Nephele moved to hands to offer to carry him, Perseus raising his arms obligingly. Putting him over her shoulders, her frame bent slightly, not expecting such a small thing to weight so much. Readjusted to this and her new center of gravity, she turned to the tree behind her and pointed. "That one?" Perseus chirped a response, putting's paws upon her head and patting, body squirming. "Either your uncomfortable, or that's the right place." It ceased moving and leaned forward, swatting and pointing at the tree, or maybe even farther out. "Alright, Perseus. Well," she began to lean down to allow him to let off but it whined. She faltered only for a moment, but continued to sit down. retrieving the pokeball from her side as it begrudgingly climbed off. "Tell you what, if you're tired of walking, you can rest in the pokeball; you're a little heavy on my shoulders with everything else I have to carry." She offered the pokeball to him, Perseus considering it for a moment, but pushing it away. Attaching it back to her belt, she simply nodded and carried on with the Riolu.
It looked around then, stanced to brace itself, turning toward the direction of something on the road. Nephele only then remembered her steel shield inside her tool bag, but faced where Riolu looked.
Micah had set off from Port City the moment he could. After taking some time to get to know the Pokemon he'd be traveling with, at least. At this point, the sun was still high in the sky, but just beginning to lower. He wondered if he'd be stuck traveling through the night, but honestly, he couldn't care less. In fact, that sounded kinda fun. Or maybe really fun. He could have a game of night hide-and-seek with his Pokemon, in the forest. Probably not the brightest or safest idea, but his rarely were. As they made their way down the path, he only began to notice the various potholes scattered about as he nearly trouble from one. He managed to catch himself, but... It could have been pretty embarrassing. His Fletchling still seemed to snicker at him from his shoulder, while the Blitzle shook its head, making a point of the way he easily dodged any potholes in his path.
"Ohh, don't you give me that look, Zephyr. My eyes are all the way up here, I can't be expected to keep watch of the ground at all times! Besides, you're much closer to the ground." Micah huffed, getting a snort in return from the Blitzle. Some more amused tweeting sounded next to his ear, but suddenly pausing. Micah blinked as the Fletchling took off from his shoulder, flapping quickly ahead of them down the path. Without any sort of warning, the mercenary could only stand there confused before following after him. Soon he understood, as another pair of figures became visible on the path ahead of them. The Fletchling had apparently gone to say hi. In his own way, of course.
The moment the Riolu turned around, it was met with a face full of Fletchling. The little bird flapped in place with an excitable chirp, just inches from the fighting Pokemon's nose. An amused laughed sounded from a few feet behind the bird, as another traveler was making his way towards them. Once he got over the humor of Grayson's sneaky greeting, Micah grinned as he approached the two. Trotting by his side was a Blitzle, who didn't seem quite as amused by the Fletchling's antics. "Ahh, that was a good one, Grayson. But really though, if you're not careful then someone's going to pull a fly swatter on you." The mercenary mused, soon reaching the other pair at his relaxed pace. After taking a moment to pause and look between the woman and the Riolu with a blank expression, he gave another grin and held out a hand in greeting. "Yo, I'm Micah."
The Fletchling, Grayson tweeted in a chipper tone, flapping away from the Riolu's face and up to perch on Micah's shoulder. "This is Grayson, and that's Zephyr." He added, gesturing to the Blitzle that seemed to be pondering whether to approach the Riolu. <"Friend or foe?"> Zephyr questioned in a cautious nicker, his ears twitching. When his trainer and the bird were too carefree, he had to be the vigilant one. <"Do these people really look dangerous to you, Blitz? You're never going to make any friends that way, you know."> The Fletchling tweeted haughtily down at the equine Pokemon.
Watching the Pokemon make their various sounds at each other, Micah laughed lightly. "I think they're either getting along or planning a showdown."

UNDER THE BLUDGEONINGS OF CHANCE, MY HEAD IS BLOODIED BUT UNBOWED
To say that Riolu was stunned would have been shortcoming of the incident that ensued, and neglectful of the humor that followed. Riolu had indeed heard the avian pokemon coming, but it had not predicted that it would fly in it's face. Stunned for a moment, Perseus the Riolu barely had time to chirp out a <Hey! Wha-?!"> then have a delayed reaction of pulling its paws to block it's face, stumbling back a step, into a smaller pot hole, the fates almost all too forgiving for the poor Riolu, who thought for a moment it had fallen into some abyss.
At the same time, Nephele watched the red bird fly into Riolu's face. Her hands jerked, as if wanting to extend, but watched the flighty thing chatter and chirp, her Riolu falling back in shock, an exasperated look of horror plain on it's face. Amused but also sympathetic, she simply smiled, hearing a man's voice a few feet from her, coming up the path. She had mixed feelings about his remark, extrapolating a jokester attitude, but amiable all the same. "I think that's the kindest way to learn to be more alert, Riolu." It eyes begged a little more seriousness from her at the gravity of the situation, that he really could have been attacked, and that IF that had happened, he would have simply fallen on his behind and left Nephele to the devices of the devious devil. Perseus sighed, Nephele's abilities to read his expression so limited, though it was nice she tried.
Nephele had already turned and taken a few steps toward the stranger when he introduced himself, she following in the suit of shaking his hand. She shook just as her mother had told her; palm neither down or upturned, grip kind and firm, and two 'pops'--shakes--though it was entirely possible Micah would do more than two. "Nephele. Nice to meet you." She then faced the pokemon at the introduction to their names, noting the chipper behavior of the bird, smiling at the 'flighty thing'--growing rather fond of the nickname. The equine however, she saw those eyes, it's focus not so much on her as it was the Riolu, as it dusted itself off, wearing a slight frown. "This is Perseus--a Riolu."
Riolu looked toward the Blitz carefully, listening to the Fletchling. Huh. Maybe the avian wasn't so bad, he smiled slyly then. <"I'm not the type to fly in your face, if that's how you define friend."> He chuckled, expression brightening.
Nephele chuckled at Micah's comment. "I suppose we'll know here in a few moments?" she momentarily leaned away from him then as if to turn to the rest of the road--though she merely meant to point while she asked, "Are you heading to New Pallet as well, or...?" She wanted to ask if he was going to explore, chart out unknown territory and the like--he had the face for it, but just by the looks of it, not the gear. She scoffed mentally; I hardly looked any different when I was twelve and heading there. She added quickly, "Are you looking for a place to branch off and explore?" She was not yet in the habit of doubting people, and she did not think to start anytime soon, glancing at her Riolu to make sure he hadn't been pummeled yet--brave, young little thing.
<"But that's exactly how I define 'friend!'"> The Fletchling tweeted jokingly back at the Riolu, hopping a few times on Micah's shoulder. Zephyr still seemed a bit unsure about the whole thing. At heart, he was a very protective Pokemon, and didn't want anything happening to his trainer or bird-friend. It was very hard for him to not be a skeptic when it came to new faces. He just wanted to make sure they weren't going to be attacked...
Micah smiled down at the Riolu as he was introduced. He seemed like a pretty interesting Pokemon, despite having just inadvertently made a fool of himself. It even seemed to have a good-natured reaction towards Grayson's little prank. "Hey, man, nice to meet you." He greeted, kneeling down to shake the Riolu's paw as well. Why not, right? Once that was done, he gave a grin and stood straight. Seeing this, even the Blitzle seemed to lower the guard he had put between himself and the new Pokemon. Micah seemed like a pretty good judge of character, after all... <"Alright. If Micah trusts you, then I will as well.">
Micah listened quietly as as the woman-- Nephele-- relayed her question. He seemed to ponder her words for a moment before a mischievous grin overtook his expression. "Well... I am supposed to be heading to New Pallet, but now that you mention it... Exploring does sound so much more fun. Let's do that!" He replied, sounding almost like a child with his excited tone. "Honestly, I'm not seeing any reason not to explore along the sides of the path as we go, right? Old paths are boring, let's make a new one!" He continued, having obviously made up his mind without Nephele's help. It seemed that he automatically assumed the other was going to be joining him, as well.

Riolu had not expected the man to bend toward him and thought to shift back a step, wondering if people had the capacity to flutter in his face, until he noted the smile. It was not hard at all for him to admit that he felt a little more akin to this human in spirit, though maybe it was the pokemon company he kept. The Fletchling's humor grew on him a bit, though, it might have been nice to have met with a little less embarrassment. Shaking... Micah was it?--Shaking his hand, the Blitz eased slightly. That was caution he could respect. Riolu simply nodded.
At the suggestion to delve beyond that of the dirt rode, Nephele pursed her lips and shook her head, running a free hand over her hair tightly pulled back into a ponytail. She considered it, but there was an obvious danger to off road adventures. Her caution got the better of her, she still shaking her head no, no, no What in the Distortion World would prompt a death wish only Giratina could answer. But She knew that look in Micah's eyes, only because she had once looked in a mirror that reflected that grin and curl of the eyes.
There would be no way to dissuade him, and by the look of them both, they might not be as well qualified together--granted he had the advantage of an extra pokemon and seemed entirely capable, she did not know if it was exactly right to leave him to his own devices. She turned her upper body toward her toolbag buckled around her left side, and pulled forth a steel shield, pushing up her forearm to her biceps, commenting, "Well, I can't let you have all the fun to yourself. That would be very irresponsible of me." Half-truth and half-insane she looked to her Riolu, "Time to get accustomed with your feral neighbors, Perseus."
She humored Micah, wondering just what exactly was going through his mind. "To where are we going to make this new path go to, exactly?" Disbelief made her words firm but it was the sincerity of her body language that was her usual saving grace, as she pulled out a machete from her toolbag before closing it."Is this going to be the long way to New Pallet, or to a new city perhaps?" Her eyes flickered mischievously, wondering if this was the moment they might find something at least slightly off the path that would help either city, perhaps be a good enough place for an inn? She dared to dream.
Meanwhile, The Riolu watched the conversation between Micah and Nephele, wondering why they didn't go by names like Pokemon did--Fletchling, Blitz. Sure, every Fletchling was names Fletchling, but it made it hard to get names wrong. There was a strength in unity, but then humans; they were everywhere and many different kinds so it seemed and they were so specialized. Aw well. His eyes shifted between the Fletchling and Blitz, <"Do I call you what your Micah calls you, or do you have a different name?">
Grinning like a madman, Micah would nod 'yes' to every shake of Nephele's no. Even his own Pokemon had to shake their heads at him, and this point, perhaps realizing their trainer was completely hopeless. Not that is mattered to Micah, he was far to riled up and ready to get off the beaten path. In his eyes, there just wasn't enough adventure in a pre-made path. He could see Nephele's inner resolution cracking the more she thought about it, and knew he'd be getting his way. It was jut a matter of letting the gears turn into place. Aaand three, two, one-- Nephele was retrieving her shield. Micah's grin turned mischievous as Nephele gave in, explaining that she couldn't let him all the fun. That would have been very irresponsible indeed. Chuckling, he gave another nod as she addressed her Riolu. Micah's own Pokemon were giving him a worried glance. Was their trainer going to get them all killed, now? No, perhaps a training exercise like this was just what they needed to grow stronger. Micah was all about the 'If you can't swim, throw yourself into the water' approach. Of course, it only ever caused trouble for himself and those around him, but he was impossible to dissuade.
As Nephele asked a few questions about the path they'd be making, Micah pondered it for a moment. "Well, we do still need to get to New Pallet, so I guess we can't put that off entirely..." He spoke, as if seriously considering the 'find a new city' option. "But just think of all the new stuff that could be hiding out there away from the path. I mean, twenty-five years and we know next to nothing about this world, right? This path to New Pallet is boring and barren. Let's branch out and make a more fun out." He decided, gesturing off from where the were standing. "First we go this way for a bit and explore, then we can start towards New Pallet from there. Grayson has a natural sense of direction, so he can lead us if we get lot. I mean, I think our X-Gears have maps, but who needs em." Micah continued, grinning.
Perking up as the Riolu spoke to them, Grayson and Zephyr looked over towards him. Seeming to ponder a bit, it was Grayson that tweeted a reply. <"We're suppose to be getting used to our new names, really. It's hard, though. I can't go giving myself slack in the matter, so call me Grayson."> He explained. <"And I, Zephyr. What would you prefer to go by."> The Blitzle added.
