Micah H. Romero
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Orientation: Bisexual
Profession: Mercenary
Occupation: Wilderness Guide
Mentor: Professor Quercus Oak
Appearance:
With a build of lean muscle and an overall thin figure, Micah has been called a beanstalk with the way he towers over most at 6'5", including his older brother. Even his own body often seems confused by his height, with the clumsy way he moves about... It can be said for certain that elegance is not a strong point of the lanky giant. A good deal of Micah's personality can be determined from a quick glance. His clumsy posture, his often disinterested expression, his wandering eyes... If anything, it all makes it rather difficult for people to put their faith in him, despite his chosen career path.
Still, at least he's easy on the eyes. It's probably the only reason he still has a job. His skin is a dark caramel that blends well beneath his two-toned locks. His milk chocolate-colored hair is tipped in velvet, contrasted only by his golden eyes and choice of clothing. His hair reaches his shoulders and seems as though it's rarely combed, with the way it falls every which direction. Though it's often hidden by his work clothes, Micah's left arm and shoulder are covered in a stylized tattoo of a winding dragon Pokemon. He likes to think it makes him look pretty bad-ass and few can honestly disagree.
Everyday Clothes: Image
When off the job, Micah prefer to wear mostly casual clothes, such as plain light T-shirts and dark jeans. He likes to be comfortable above all else, so he doesn't exactly dress to impress, but the look still works for him. When he's heading out into the wilds, comfort is knocked down in priority just a bit and he'll throw on another layer or two. Of course, this usually just consists of a simple jacket...
Pack: Image
Micah doesn't like carrying too much as he hates to be slowed down, so he insists on making do with the same simple little rucksack he's had since childhood. One can tell by looking at the old thing that it's made for a child to use, rather than a grown man, but Micah doesn't seem to care and is often seen with it hanging from his shoulder by one strap. Light brown in color, the worn pack has seen better days and has quite a few patched holes littered about its surface. With the state it's in, it seems almost as though it's meant to be decorative rather than of any possible use to an explorer. Whether or not Micah realizes this is undetermined.
Personality:
One thing that can be said for certain, Micah isn't exactly eager to impress. This is probably a good thing in his case, seeing as he never thinks before he acts and is often making a mess of things. Still, in the times that he can focus or find something that interests him, it's not too bad. Micah is the type that prefers to joke his way through serious situations rather than face them head on, like a buffer or shield to keep himself on top of things even when he's not sure what's going on.
With all of that, Micah can be a difficult person to put up with, but if one finds that they can manage it, they've gained a loyal friend for life. He takes relationships very seriously, especially friends and family, or those he considers family. Towards strangers, Micah would most likely seem like a big clumsy oaf, and maybe even brash, violent, or excitable. He has a sort of obsession with the unexplored lands outside the settlements and is always eager to go out and hack 'n slash his way through deep forestry and harsh terrain. Naturally as reckless as he is, he's always returning covered in cuts and bruises... Most are surprised that he's always managed to get away with just that.
Around close friends and family however, Micah is calmer and even sweet, often going out of his way to help out and make them happy. He often seems blind to his own limits at these times, and may need to be talked out of attempting something that others know he cannot safely do. Just be careful not to let him take this as a challenge.
Likes:
Micah holds an unbridled love towards all things new. New places, new people, new things, new Pokemon, new mutations! He adores it all. Of course, this obsession gives him an uncanny sense of adventure and an unusual amount of excitement towards traveling. The further his job can get him from the settlement he was raised in, the happier he will be. And of course, the talks of new settlements in the making are one of his favorite things to eavesdrop on.
Dislikes:
Micah is a very impatient person. As such, he detests being slowed down or having to wait, when all he wants to do is keep moving onward. He gets very obviously frustrated when he's excited for something but has to wait to get to it... Unfortunately, this is a very common occurrence with his job, but he's slowly learning to just deal with it. Another thing Micah dislikes is cat Pokemon. No one's sure why, but he just can't stand to be near them.
Backstory:
Micah was born to a widowed and sickly mother. It had already been nine years since the portal was created to the new world, but to his family, it had always remained something of an legend cultivated through uncertain whispers and they'd had neither the physical condition or resources to travel to find out. His father was lost to the same illness as his mother before they'd even found out that she was pregnant, and she was left on her own to care for Micah's older brother and the unborn child on the way. She barely survived pregnancy and it could be considered a miracle that she managed to live another two years before finally giving in. By this point, she had already been bed ridden for a good while and the nine year old Ciel, Micah's older brother, had already grown used to caring for her as well as the little one. With her gone, the brothers were on their own.
Barely a week after their mother's death, Ciel packed the few belongings they had and carried Micah and the small bag out the door to start on their journey towards the portal. Legend or not, he knew there was no point in staying put any longer. At this time, the traveling could only do them good, and if the whispers were true... Then they could actually have a good life-- and matured past the point of self-preservation, a good life for Micah was all Ciel wanted. Of course, the road was long and dangerous, especially to children so young, but eventually, after another two years, they made it. They were starved, filthy and terrified as they stepped onto the portal, but they made it.
Still, life wasn't immediately all sunshine and joy. It took a good while for either of the two to trust anyone but each other... Most days, they would keep to themselves, seemingly terrified of most adults and Pokemon, only hesitantly accepting food. Micah would only ever accept food if it was first handed to Ciel before passed to him, as if it would be poison from anyone else's hands. Thankfully, after a few months of everyone walking on eggshells near them, they began to realize they were safe and slowly relaxed into their new life and began trusting the people around them, and by the time he turned five, Micah was obsessed with the possibilities of the world outside the settlement.
Within a few years of settling into their new home, Micah knew exactly what he wanted to do with this new lease on life. He wanted to explore. Apparently the traveling had simple become a part of his nature, and he wasn't willing to stop. And of course, he'd figured the best way for him to do this would to become a mercenary. After all, he was always seeing those type coming and going from the settlement... Perhaps they weren't the only ones with such freedom, but it certainly seemed the best option for him, given the fact that in the few years since their arrival he had already grown into a rambunctious brat with too much energy.
So while his older brother was discovering his knack for caring for Pokemon, Micah was trying to figure out how he needed to live his life to become a Mercenary with as much freedom to travel as possible. Still, he inevitably ended up mentoring under the Professor, as his whole reason for wanting to become a strong Mercenary was his need to go out and discover new things. Though Micah doesn't have much interest in learning about the new things he sees or why they're the way they are... The science behind it all is lost on him, really, he just wants to see it. If he's the first to see it, then even better!
By the time Micah turned 15, he wasn't quite an established Mercenary, but that couldn't stop him from going out on his own to explore. In fact, as even his older brother couldn't persuade him not to, it had become a daily thing for the over-adventurous teen. Ciel could only sigh and patch him up whenever he returned covered in scratches or bruises... And, of course, listen to his stories of how he wandered into a feral Pokemon nest or nearly tumbled down the side of a cliff. With the way the boy would recount his misadventures with such glee, one could only assume he held something of a death wish...
By adulthood, Micah had managed to complete his dream of becoming a Mercenary. More specifically, he became a sort of Wilderness Guide, helping to forge pathways for other travelers or researchers and to keep his clients safe. It probably seemed a bit worrisome to those who knew of his inability to keep his self out of harm's way, but thankfully he took the welfare of others far more seriously than his own and was eventually deemed rather trustworthy for it. He even started keeping a journal, often scribbling down childish maps of the different paths he would take and the different plants or Pokemon he could see on the way. His above average memory was also deemed pretty useful to merchants and researchers alike as he could always tell where he'd seen different things out in the wilderness and lead them there.
