| Gwen listened as Anya went on to tell her about going to her boyfriend's and finding the strange berry on the beach. A boyfriend, was that all? Gwen thought it wasn't really worth that much to risk being out with all those Anorith running around. What did she know though? Romance wasn't something she'd been actively into. No, Gwen was someone who focused more on her work with pokemon, and never really had time to explore what other people really meant to her.
When Anya asked if she had seen that kind of berry before, Gwen shook her head. "I can't say that I have, though I think that might have been what the Anorith were trying to get at." She said, before taking another sip of her tea. Gwen was quite curious about it herself, and part of her actually wanted the berry. It belonged to Anya though, and she wanted to show it to her boyfriend, so she didn't bother asking her if she'd give it up. Maybe if she went to the beach she'd find more of those berries for herself. "Do you know if there were other berries like it where you found it? I wouldn't mind fetching some for myself. I've caught a fair number of Anorith, and if they like that particular berry, I think it might help me in taming them."

A small smile came to Anya’s lips at the confirmation that Gwen had never seen the berry before. That had to have meant one of two things: either it was rare, or something else, whether it be the tide or a pokemon, had brought it there. Either way, it was an interesting find as far as she was concerned. As Gwen posed a return question, Anya’s lips pressed together, and a small shake of her head was given. “I’d only found this one washed up on shore,” she explained glancing down at it and tumbling it between her fingers briefly before glancing up again.
Suddenly the realization that Gwen had more Anorith fully hit her, and Anya had to wonder what she was going to do with so many of the same species. Well- if she tamed them, then certainly she… could sell them maybe or just train them all or… Anya stopped. Pokemon wasn’t really what interested her when it was all said and done, and she was jumping leaps and bounds over things she was completely unsure of. “What do you plan to do with all of them?” she asked glancing to meet Gwen’s gaze. “After taming, I mean,” she clarified briefly.

| "I see, that's too bad." Gwen said when Anya told her she only found the one, though she simply shrugged off her disappointment. "Maybe the tide washed it onto shore." She theorized. Maybe there was an island out there somewhere where those berries grew? Maybe it came off a tree that was further up the coast and it had washed up on the beach here? Well if it came from an island, it would take a good boat or a water type pokemon to get her across the ocean, and a fair bit of luck to actually find it and not get lost and die along the way.
The more Gwen thought about it, the more obvious it became that going out to the ocean, was a really bad idea. Maybe she'd find some of those berries along the next route, whenever she got a chance to got there. In the meantime, the topic had shifted to her Anorith. "Well, I do intend to keep one of them. The rest I plan on selling or trading off once I can get a stand set up. Taming can be a difficult process and all, and I'm sure there's plenty of people who won't mind paying to forego the process." She said.
As for which one, she wasn't entirely sure anymore. It would have been easy to simply pick the strongest of the bunch, at the same time though, she kind of wanted to see how well she could work with the one female one. Perhaps it was the challenge of raising a pokemon from level one, or maybe she just felt a little bad for how roughly they had knocked it out. Whatever the case, it was the one she was leaning towards. Whether it was likely to work out though, was another thing entirely.
Taking the last sip from her tea, Gwen set down her cup and her gaze shifted over to where her pokemon had been taken. "I wonder how much longer they'll be with my pokemon..." She pondered out loud.

Anya gave a small nod of understand when Gwen explained that she was going to at least keep one and sell and trade others. Who would actually want a swarming mass of Rock Bugs was beyond Anya, yet she supposed there were some that would go for it just to have a tamed pokemon, perhaps. Maybe even those that already had pokemon that wanted more without battling… The lab and the Emissary only offered one pokemon to trainers wasn’t it? Or was it two? Anya wasn’t sure and hadn’t really looked at the flyers that had been around town signaling the full start of the trainer program. She resisted the urge to shake her head now, knowing that it would do no good to be upset with herself for something she could not readily change anyways.
As Gwen shifted and looked over, Anya ended up doing so as well. “It depends on the injuries…” she noted briefly. “Just like humans, I’d imagine more serious measures would need to be taken for more injured pokemon,” she paused briefly considering this herself. Even if pokemon were stronger than humans, it didn’t take away from the fact that they got hurt. Pausing a moment as a question came to her, Anya glanced back at Gwen again. “What prompted you to become a Mercenary was it?” she asked giving a small head duck and glancing down at her tea. “I’ve heard in PokeEarth children were given pokemon at the age of ten for inheritance rights or something akin to that, but considering there are no gyms to collect badges from or anything… what do you plan to do for full time work?” she asked. Realizing she had questioned more than intended, she flushed. “I mean… you don’t have to tell me I just…” Anya bit her lip now unable to find the words with which she could explain her meaning in the questions.

| "I suppose so." Gwen responded, still thinking of the one Anorith she had knocked off the roof. If any of them were causing the delay, it was probably that particular one. Rock hard shell or not, it probably would take some time to heal after that fall. In hindsight, she probably could have caught the thing, maybe even won some respect points in it's book. Sometimes her focus her task left her blind to the better options, and she made a mental note to work on that, before she ended up throwing any more pokemon off of roofs.
While she was in thought, Anya began firing off her own questions, rambling a bit about PokeEarth and how she heard pokemon training had worked there. Though Gwen had actually been born on PokeEarth, she had only spent the first couple weeks of her life there before her family passed through the legend portal to Mi-aro. Though she had learned the basics of how things worked for trainers back then, she hadn't really put too much effort into learning about it. She wasn't much of a history buff and she preferred to focus on the hear and now.
"It's alright. I don't mind at all." Gwen assured her, emitting a soft chuckle at Anya's flustered face. Gwen couldn't recall actually mentioning being a mercenary, though it was possible to deduce from what she mentioned of having gotten two starters from the lab, since no other professions offered the extra starter choice. "Well to be honest I had actually started out as a researcher, but I changed my mind because I found myself more interested in raising pokemon than merely studying them. As for what I do for a living, I've been hoping I can make one off of taming feral pokemon."
From all the sudden questions though, Gwen could deduce Anya had a particular interest of her own. "You really want to become a trainer yourself, don't you?" Gwen deduced, smiling a bit as if to dare Anya to deny it.

As Gwen explained what she wanted to do, Anya gave a small slow nod of understanding. In a way it was sort of admirable- though she couldn’t place why she got that feeling, actually. Maybe it had something to do with bringing together the human world and tame pokemon and the feral world that rested beyond. The question that transpired shortly thereafter drew a nervous blush to Anya’s face, yet a small tentative smile grasped her features shortly thereafter. “I’m not sure, to be honest,” she replied after a few seconds of hesitation.
“I work almost every day, and abandoning my position isn’t an option not just for myself but,” she glanced up her smile growing a bit more. “For my family. I’d rather not leave them with an empty place to fill at the shop. Some people were just meant to be trainers, and others were meant to work other jobs,” she finished slowly a soft sigh escaping from her. She knew her words to be truth due mostly to the influences she had heard them from. However, it was not a disparaging life to work in town day in and day out. There were little things that always made it worth it- her boyfriend for one, for example. “We all have our niche,” she finished. They were admirable words, indeed, and she believed a lot of them when it was all said and done.

| Ahh, family. Gwen could sympathize with her on that. Her own parents hadn't really been around in her life as much as most parents one would expect them to, because their passion for their work in this new world didn't leave room for raising a child. Gwen could appreciate Anya's loyalty to her family. Not that she didn't appreciate her own parents, no. She knew what it was to value one's work above anything, and she still had a good childhood growing up with her grandmother. Life was still good.
"Your family runs a shop? Well, even if you are stuck in place, it can still be rewarding to have a pokemon companion. They can even be a fair help around your shop if you care for them well." Gwen suggested. She knew that there was someone in the marketplace who offered pokemon to merchants, but the name was escaping her. "I know there's someone in the marketplace who offers starter pokemon to merchants..." Gwen trailed off a bit, suddenly realizing how pushy she must sound. "My apologies, I don't mean to pressure you or anything." She apologized, scratching her cheek sheepishly.

As Gwen noted that there was someone in the market business who offered starters, Anya blinked surprised. She… almost felt as if she should have known such a thing, but … really? How had that got overlooked, exactly? Well she’d always been told it was more of a feeding situation but… maybe a helper could balance that and oh Arceus what was she getting herself into? Despite herself, a soft smile had come to Anya’s lips. Maybe… maybe it was an option. The Charmander had been really cute after all and… well maybe. She’d leave the decision up until later. “It’s fine…” she replied rather quickly to Gwen giving a gentle shake of her head. “You seem to love pokemon a lot…” yet another small smile came.
Meanwhile, under careful supervision of her mother who was now not standing too far off, the little girl came barreling back to Gwen. “Mommy said to give these too you! They’re all healed up now! Just some need more rest than …..others…and uh… thanks for stopping by! Bye!” she chimed holding the pokeballs forwards until Gwen took them before skipping off shortly thereafter.

| Gwen smiled a bit, and brushed a strand of hair from her face. "Yes, I do. Was always interested in them since I was a little girl." She confirmed. Her eyes then wandered back to the lady who had taken her pokemon, only to realize her child was approaching again, this time with her poke balls cradled in her tiny hands. "Thank you very much! I'll make sure they rest!" She told the little girl as she clipped the balls back onto her shoulder bag.
Turning back to Anya, she was afraid that she was beginning to run out of topics to well, talk about. With her pokemon back in her possession, it was probably time to head off too. "So, do you know how you're getting to your boyfriend's or where ever you intend to go from here? If you'd like I wouldn't mind walking with you in case any more Anorith come along." Gwen offered. Sure, she had already spent a fair amount of time in the Inn, but she didn't want to leave Anya stranded either if she didn't have a safe way home with the anorith swarm still running about.

The little girl flashed a beaming smile before rather quickly scampering back. A smaller smile came to Anya’s features briefly at the sight of the expression before Gwen turned back and her eyes re-focused. Briefly she paused uncertain of how to proceed. Closing her eyes for a moment as she thought over where location wise the house was, she considered it, but then again, she didn’t want to waste too much of Gwen’s time, and it wasn’t much farther- just up the street in fact. If she had made it all the way across town with only one incident, surely it would be alright to go the final stretch alone? A small smile came to her features. “I think I’ll be alright, it’s just a little farther up the street… thank you, though,” she replied giving a brief nod only to glance down at her old fashioned watch and frown upon finding how much time had passed. She really needed to get going now that she thought about it.
