~Strange sounds have been heard outside of New Pallet, The Ambassador urges trainers to be ready in case of an attack~
Summer is kicking in Port City! The temperature averages about 78°F (25°C) with a bit more rain than usual. Thunderstorms pop up every once in awhile, but overall, the sun is shining, the water's warm, and it looks like it'll be a great summer for the colonies.
Standing at the outskirts of Port City, Micah looked to the two Pokeballs in his hand. He'd just left the lab after receiving his starters, not too long ago, and now he was ready for a little get-to-know-each-other exercise. He'd named them Zephyr and Grayson, and he already adored them. He just knew they could be the perfect partners for him, and he couldn't wait to actually get starter on their adventure. But still, he had to get used to working with them and vice versa, first. That was why he was here, purposely out looking for a battle.
Without further adieu, Micah tapped both buttons on the two balls, releasing the Blitzle and Fletchling. The Mercenary smiled as the Fletchling, Grayson, immediately set to flying about in an upwards spiral to check out his new surroundings. He eventually came to a stop, fluttering in place for a moment from his new vantage point before seemingly to look down towards Micah and flapping back to his side. Once the Fletchling had perched on his shoulder, Micah looked towards the Blitzle, Zephyr. The equine seemed on the alert, with his ears and tail perked up as he scoped out the area from the ground, his nose twitching as he took in the smells of nature. They were a inquisitive pair, these two. Just like their trainer. Micah wouldn't have it any other way.
Once the Blitzle turned his attention towards Micah, Micah gave a nod and began speaking. "Hmhm... Okay, so. Let's go over this one more time. My name is Micah, and I'll be your partner from now on. I'm going to be calling you Zephyr... And you, Grayson." He spoke, giving each one a cheek scratch as he spoke their name. "You two may be small now, but I know that we can all grow together into a powerful team." He added, then pausing as he glanced towards some bushes. There was a tell-tale rustle. "We're here to start the first step. To have our first battle together. This is our chance to get coordinated and understand how to work together. Best of luck to the both of you." He grinned, standing at the ready as the bush-rustler revealed itself.

The bush rustled for a few more seconds, before a deep growling came from within the bush. Anyone who knew anything about Pokemon would probably be able to tell that it was a warning growl, a "get away from my territory" kinda of vocalization.
If Micah was aware enough, he might also realize that a very particular stench was starting to waft through the area, seemingly coming from the bush. However, the warning did not seem to have its intended effect and so a small, furry Pokemon slowly ambled it way out of the bush, claws out and snarl embedded on its features.

If Micah looked past the smelly little Pokemon, he would see a very small pile of purple berries sitting there, obviously the Pokemon's stash. Who knows how long it took that little Pokemon to gather that much food, but the poison type seemed ready to defend that stash as opposed to just walking away. Micah would have a decision to make now. Would he fight the Stunky for the experience? Or would he leave the young Pokemon be and continue on his way?
Micah blinked as the Stunky waddled out of the bushes, unable to help but snicker some, even as he automatically covered his nose with a free hand. Oh man, this would be an interesting one for sure. It was pretty common to see Stunky around Port City, but the usual reaction was to to avoid them. This was his first time actually taking one on. "Oh Arceus, chill with the stink glands little guy." He joked. Looking towards his Blitzle, Zephyr seemed to be bothered by the intensifying smell, hoofing at his snout in agitation, but his Grayson was handling it far better. It took a moment, but Micah did eventually take notice of the heft pile of berries near the Pokemon. They must've walked right into its territory. He kinda felt bad about the idea of attacking a feral Pokemon at its doorstep, but... At the same time, he wanted those berries. It was only proof of his humanity, if nothing else.
"Grayson, you take the lead on this one. Zephyr, get a bit of distance so that you can focus and wait for my signal." Micah directed, gesturing to his Pokemon as he stared the fetal down. "Okay, Grayson! Fly up and use tackle! We're declaring war." Micah commanded with an excited grin. His first battle!
As directed, the Fletchling shot off of Micah's shoulder, a few feet into the air. Once he'd gotten the Stunky looking towards him, he darted down, aiming a tackle right for the feral's nose. This little warrior was eager to please. Meanwhile, Zephyr was waiting patiently on the sidelines for his cue, very slowly adjusting to the Stunky's assault on his sense of smell.

A small smirk crawled over the features of the poison Pokemon as it watched the trainer's Blitzle back off a few steps. It took immense pride in being stinky and so the disgusted look on the horse's face made its day. Unfortunately for the Stunky, the trainer's bird Pokemon didn't seem nearly as put off by the smell, and so the wild Pokemon's natural first line of defense was easily broken. Now, the purple skunk watched as the bird lifted off from its trainer's shoulder. Neck arched at a slight angle, the Stunky wondered what the little bird was doing and when he finally figured out what was happening, it was far too late.
Diving like a kamikaze plane, the fearless Fletchling bomber tackled the Stunk, landed its sharp beak right on the nose of the skunk Pokemon. Howling in pain, the Stunky backed himself up a step or two and rubbed his nose, trying to make it feel better. When the Pokemon moved his paw out of the way, Micah and his Pokemon would no doubt see the giant welt and bruise that now covered the sensitive nose of the mammal Pokemon.
Snarling, the skunk Pokemon quickly turned around and lifted his tail. Anyone who knew about Pokemon would know what was about to happen, and without giving the trainer and his Pokemon time to move, a thick, noxious cloud of purple gas quickly exited the hindquarters of the Stunky. The poison gas moved quickly and rose up from the ground level, attempting to engulf all in its haze. If Micah or his two Pokemon got a whiff of the smell, it would smell like sulfur and rotten eggs to them. Honestly, they would be lucky if they didn't throw up from the combination.
It was only as his Fletchling began the dive tackle that Micah realized he was risking just pissing the Stunky off. It was a huge mistake on his part and one he came to immediately regret as the injured Stunky turned and lifted it's tail. They hadn't even a second to react in preparation before the wild Pokemon released its noxious gas upon them. Cringing as the gas made its way up to his face, Micah desperately covered his nose and mouth with both hands, his eyes watering as it burned them. Grayson was quick to get out of the situation on his own. After his tackle, he had taken a moment to shake off the impact before planning to return to Micah. That plan had immediately halted when he realized what the Stunky had in mind and he'd instead flown up as high as he could to avoid the worst of it. Micah was thankful for that, but he still had himself and Zephyr to worry about.
Zephyr wasn't enjoying this at all. The Blitzle was obviously irritated from ear to toe, stomping at the ground and spinning in half circles as if it was going to get get out of this terrible stink-based hell. This wasn't going to get him anywhere, Micah realized. He needed Zephyr to stop doing his irritation dance and attack. "Zephyr! I need you to focus and use Quick Attack!" He called to the Blitzle who immediately paused, his ears and tail perked up. Though obviously still having difficulty bearing with it, Zephyr took on a starter position, hoofing at the ground a couple of times, then immediately dashing at the offending Stunky, his head lowered for full impact. It was apparent that he was just as eager for revenge for his poor nose.

Stunky might not be the most agile or physically imposing Pokemon, but what they lacked in one area, they made up for it in other areas. In the case of this little wild Stunky, he was actually quite intelligent. In addition to that and his chemical warfare proficiency, the poison Pokemon was also capable of fighting in a close combat type situation.
Crouching low and into his own poison gas cloud, the purple creature waited for a perfect moment to strike, which the trainer was just about to give him. Speeding forward, the electric horse did as commanded but the Blitzle would quickly become lost as the Stunky seemed to melt into the gas and disappear. How was that possible?
The horse would get caught looking around before a war cry would come from the side of the Blitzle. When Zephyr turned to look at the noise, all he would see was a flash of purple and a pain in his cheek. The Stunky landed gracefully on his paw pads, slight traces of blood on his right paw from the successful scratch attack.
Smiling and snickering, the poison skunk seemed to think that he was ahead or at an advantage, when the truth was quite the opposite, as Micah had a two on one currently in process. Amped up from the current battle, this Stunky was quickly becoming a much more viable threat than just the pudgy Pokemon protecting a small stash of berries.
Zephyr seemed stunned as the Stunky landed a successful counter attack, seeming at a loss for a whole two seconds as the cut stung his cheek. How could he have let himself get caught off guard so easily? It had to be the stink throwing him off. Once those two seconds were up, however, it was all rage as the Blitzle returned to its charging stance and faced the Stunky through the smoke. So far he hadn't been helpful at all in this battle and he had to make up for it. That bird had done more than he had! With an aggressive snort, Zephyr waited for his next command, knowing that charging in again could end the same way. It seemed that in this new found rage, the Blitzle had forgotten all about the gas stinging his snout.
Grayson didn't seem to have the same instinct to wait for orders, however, as he swooped down at the Stunky, snapping his beak down onto one of it's ears and harshly pulling . Fluttering up at an angle, the little bird's grip never loosened. While this couldn't do more than cause the Stunky an amount of pain, it certainly helped to keep it distracted. Zephyr's ears swiveled as it heard a call of "Now, Zephyr!" from his trainer and immediately he brushed off his surprise at the Fletchling's tenacity to ready another Quick Attack. With a disgruntled snort, the Blitzle charged at full speed towards the Stunky, his head again lowered for full impact. As he dashed, the spike of a mane sticking jagged from his forehead seemed to crackle with electricity as his excitement rose.
Zephyr wouldn't stop at just one headbutt. He knew that if he landed his initial hit, he would begin stomping. It was decided that Blitzle did not like Stunkys at all, and he was very ready to end this battle and get out of this dreaded stench.

The stunky did not see the aerial attack coming, basking in its own smugness at the successful attack. Grayson easily got a hold of the purple-white stripped pokemon, the annoyance of having an ear pulled knocked the proud skunk down a few pegs. It shrieked in protest, any attempt to wiggle free was futile with the determination of this little bird. This made an easy target for Zephyr.
The fast charge left no time for the stunky or fletchling a chance to dodge. The brutal assault hit the Stunky right in the gut, triggering it to release another potent spew of poison gas in its wake. A blur of purple, red and gas went soaring through the air, leaving the Blitzle with nostrils filled with a potent poison. Poor Zephyr was feeling the effects from all the exposure to the toxic air, it would make any pokemon feel ill.
The Stunky hit the ground hard, but still had some fighting spirit left. He still had a few tricks left. Quickly he disappeared into the poisonous gas, careful to tread quietly for this attack to work. He would prepare himself and strike at the opportune moment with all his force! Who would his target be? Where would he hit from? Only time would tell, but it was probably going to be that bird if it was still on the ground.
