The morning that Lilith had left for New Pallet was humid and overcast. Large dark clouds rolled lazily through the skies, threatening rain. The woman had spent quite a bit of time earlier in the day applying liberal amounts of product to her hair to keep it flat. The humidity teased at the woman's curls, making stray hair pop out despite her work. Eventually she gave up, giving in to a bit of an over-the-top outfit to make up for the bad hair day she was experiencing. It wasn't often that you go to ride in a carriage, after all. Lilith thought back to the stories of princesses and castles her mother had read her as a child and assumed that the royalty of the story must have felt ever more elegant as the coachman helped them up.
Of course, the actual Gogoat carriage ride was nothing like the woman had imagined. It was a sturdy wooden cart with an open top. The wooden seats managed to snag and tear at the delicate lace trim on the hem of her dress and stockings. Perhaps Lilith had made a mistake in dress, wanting to emulate the princesses she had once learned about as a child. Of course, she'd never admit it. As Lilith sat, cross armed and pouting in an overly Gothic Victorian styled dress, she mentally went over the message she had received on her X-Gear. The Ambassador had managed to catch her halfway through Route One, informing her of a swarm of oddly colored Spinarak's pouring from the forest to the west of New Pallet. This must have been the reports of sounds Lilith had heard about weeks prior. After finishing up a battle, the woman had headed back to Port City, ignoring the irritation at having to back track.
As she rode, Lilith stared wistfully over the wooden railing. On her belt were six pokeballs, containing her two pokemon and an egg. Despite Ignis' and Vesper's disapproval she had sent them into circular balls upon leaving her mother's house in Port City. She had assumed the carriage would be bigger than it was, but not big enough to hold all three of them plus any other passengers. Although she traveled alone with the rather silent driver, she noted she wouldn't be able to fit herself and her two rambunctious pokemon comfortably. Lilith figured she would deal with the backlash and pouting later once she arrived.
The actual trip only took about an hour and a half. Meanwhile the heavy dark clouds above threatened severe weather. A low rumbling could be heard echoing in the distance and Lilith kicked herself for choosing to combat the swarm on a day where it threatened to rain. Her clothing had already been ruined, the lace work of her dress was snagged beyond repair and now rain threatened to ruin the soft cloth flats she wore. Perhaps a change of clothing was in order? Lilith would deal with that when she needed to.
Upon arriving, the woman tried her best to step off the carriage with grace, trying to hide her fumbling with an elegant flourish. Thanking the driver, Lilith walked into the outskirts of New Pallet with a curious frown. Already the pandemonium of the oncoming swarm had managed to take a rather panicky vice grip on the citizens. As she walked along the path leading into the town, she noticed how people had begun boarding up their windows. People rushed by her, supplies in hand. Shouts could be heard over the cacophony of voices but nothing intelligible. Was a swarm of bug pokemon really so bad? Ignis would be an asset in fighting them, his fire attacks would managed to send even the most feral of Spinarak's running. At least, Lilith hoped.
Following the directions in the guidelines, Lilith headed for the center of New Pallet where a temporary base had been set up to deal with the arrival of trainers to fight the swarm. The closer she got to the camp, the more frenzied the citizens were. A child crying could distinctly be heard over the occasional yelling of a hysterical woman. Lilith shook her head, hiding a smirk underneath pale bony hands. Perhaps she was a bit too cocky, but bug pokemon never really bothered her.
The camp wasn't exactly what Lilith was expecting. It was a small collection of tents centered around a small fire where people were congregating, pouring over paper work and talking quickly to each other. Before she made it to the inner circle, a hand on her shoulder quickly pulled her to the side. The woman had to stop herself from instinctively turning and placing a fist into the throat of whomever had the gall to touch her when she saw it was a woman wearing a uniform similar to the Ambassador's.
"Are you a trainer, here to fight the swarm?" The woman inquired, not bothering to look up over the clipboard she carried.
Lilith nodded, trying to peek past the woman's hand to see what she was now scribbling onto the paper. "Good. Well, their have been sightings in the forest to the west. They haven't reached the town yet. We need all trainers to meet them in the forest, break down the numbers before they move into the city."
Once again, Lilith nodded her understanding, crossing her arms and tilting her head to show she was listening. When the woman said nothing, looking up expectantly from her papers, Liltih try to keep the confusion off her face. That was it? Go meet the enemy without any sort of back up or plan other than break the ranks? The woman looked rather irritated at Lilith's silent gaze. It was clear from the dark circles under her eyes and the rather unkempt appearance that she hadn't been sleeping. "So... go to the forest." She said, pointing in direction of the forest. "Report back if you need medical assistance or find anything you think we ought to know. Pleas keep a running tally of how many you encounter as well as how many you kill." With that, the frazzled woman turned on her heels and vanished into the crowd.
Lilith was left with questions but looking up at the storm rolling in meant she didn't have time to really be asking. The bug pokemon had chosen a rather good -- or bad, depending on who's side you were on -- time to attack the town. Mi-aro was known for it's powerful storms and torrential rains. Lilith shook her head and exited the camp, walking in the direction of the forest.
Despite the looming clouds, there was more than enough light to avoid the need for a flashlight. As she got closer the forest, the sounds of the town drifting into the background. People were giving the place a wide berth, and rightly so. Now that she was alone, Lilith released her two pokemon. The Houndour and Noibat burst forth from their pokeballs in a flash of red light. "Alright guys, this is it." Lilith said, looking at her two pokemon's curious faces. "We're going to go face our first swarm."

Lilith has stumbled into a large clearing in the forest. It is covered in string shot, making it hard to make much progress without slicing it through, it would be dangerous to burn the string shot as it may set the whole forest on fire, but the brush is too thick to travel any where else except back. Some of the string shot is sticky to the touch and easily insures pokemon or trainers for a turn or two depending on their strength. As Lilith explores further into the web she may sense that she is not fully alone. The spinarak are attempting to ambush the trainer and her pokemon when she has made it to the middle of the clearing. Clearly Lilith has stumbled across something or they just don’t want her further into their territory, either way this battle will be difficult if Lilith wants to keep the forest from burning down with her in it. There are 5 Spinarack Lilith will need to defeat. All are at level 1, but since they are at such a weak level they will only attack in groups of 3 or more. Lilith has never encountered Spinarak before and has not done any research. She may notice from her Dex Chip that each Spinarak has a different set of markings and is slightly larger than the suggested size on her X-Gear. Move Set: Confusion, String Shot, Scary Face Type: Bug/Psychic If you require any help don't hesitate to pm a mod. Looking forward to how you handle this challenge. Best of luck Trainer.

Entering the forest was easy enough. Many trails had been worn into the ground by the citizens of New Pallet who relied on the forest for various resources. With no other direction than to take care of any Spinarak she saw, the woman figured it didn't matter exactly what direction she traveled in. Before her had been an option of three separatepaths. One led to the left, on in the middle, and one to the right. Lilith figured the path in the center, leading straight back, was the best bet. It was wider than the previous two and you could see pretty far down the trail from her current position.
The woman walked silently, keeping her fingers protectively on the belt around her waist. Underneath her delicately gloved fingers were six small pokeballs. The first two were empty, the two occupants following behind her in their own way. Vesper flew slowly behind Lilith, enjoying weaving between low hanging branches. Ignis trotted protectively by her side. Although he seemed relaxed, his ears were straight forward, ever listening. Occasionally one would twitch to the side, picking up the sounds of the forest. His dark eyes never quite faltered from the path. The third pokeball was occupied by a strange egg the woman had received about a week or so prior to starting her adventure. With no clue about it's origin or what it contained, she had dutifully carried it with her ever since.
As the trio ventured further into the forest, Lilith could sense a change in the atmosphere around her. The thick tree coverage blocked out the view of the sky, but it had clearly dropped a few degrees. The warm humid summer air was replaced by a cooler, winder temperature. Although the air was still thick with moisture, the dark clouds hadn't unleashed it's fury yet. The woman grimiced, already knowing her hair would be nothing but untamed curls the second the rain began to pour. Thunder rumbled occasionally in the distance, the sound becoming distorted as it bounced along the trees.
The farther the trio went, the more the sounds of the forest began to die down. The occasional call of wild pokemon was replaced with the crunching footsteps of Ignis and Lilith and the gentle flapping of the flying pokemon trailing behind them. The air also took on a rather unnatural feel, a sickening feeling of dread began to pool in the woman's stomach that she couldn't shake off. How hard would a hoard of Spinarak be to fend off anyway? With Ignis by her side, she was sure to cut her way through in no time. Perhaps it was the oncoming storm, something she had disliked since childhood. Despite trying to reason with herself that she was simply expericing the atmospheric pressure changing due to an oncoming storm, Lilith wasn't able to shake the feeling.
Soon everything took on a ghostly aura, with the thin light filtering through. "Hold on a minute guys." Lilith said, stopping in her tracks. She pulled her travel pack around, fishing inside for the flint and steel as well as the torch she had picked up in Port City before leaving for New Pallet. The woman had never exactly cared one way or another about the darkness, but she wanted good visibility in case she ran across her prey. Striking the flint on the steel produced a few good sparks, lighting the torch with ease.
The surroundings became much more clear, if not somewhat distorted by elongated shadows. "Good to go." She said, readjusting the pack and continuing walking. Not long after, things began to be covered in a thin white webbing that slowly increased in density. After awhile, Lilith had to fight to keep walking, the sticky web now covering the ground almost completely. Stopping for a moment to allow Vesper to catch up and land between the two large decorative horns, the woman looked around. Within a matter of fifty feet, the forest had went from lush and green to dead and almost completely covered in the string.
It didn't take long for Lilith to not be able to continue any further without throwing herself into a thick covering of the web. She scowled, pulling her bag around again and maneuvering out the machete she had bought with the recommendation of the store keeper who had sold her the flint and torch. The thin steel managed to slice through the webbing with some force and soon Lilith and her pokemon found themselves at the edge of a clearing.
Lilith jostled the torch, keeping it low and close to her body to avoid catching the low hanging webbing on fire. The last thing Lilith needed was to return to town and explain she had managed to burn down the entire forest. Nevermind she had dealt with the swarm, New Pallet was now down one very large source of wood and various other products the natural area provided. After much effort, she managed to cut her way completely into the clearing.
Stepping through the path she had made, the woman found the area seemed rather free of the white webbing that had plagued her for the last hour or so of walking. Looking around, Lilith was able to see the dark angry clouds clearly between the break up of trees. Occasionally a flash of lightening managed to brighten the sky. It was only a matter of time until it really began to pour. The ground was mostly clear of debris, almost eerily so. No foliage grew despite the access to the sun, and very few dead leaves littered the barren earth. Once again, the feeling of dread an unease rose up.
And rightly so. As Lilith surveyed the area, a scuttling noise began, quickly followed by even more noises. Vesper hissed quietly from her perch atop Lilith's head, small purple feet digging tighter into the head piece. Ignis began to growl, a deep throaty sound, in the direction of the scuttling which soon took over the clearing. Before Lilith had any real time to react to the sound, five oddly colored blue and red pokemon dropped from the trees. Having never seen this type before, Lilith pulled her X-Gear up, from the place it sat dormant on her belt. Pointing the device at the five, she quickly got a read on what had descended before her;
"Spinarak! The web spun by Spinarak can be considered its second nervous system. It is said that this Pokémon can determine what kind of prey is touching its web just by the tiny vibrations it feels through the web's strands."
"I guess these are what we're looking for?" Lilith said, more to herself than anything. As she looked between what was displayed on her screen and what was before her, she frowned. The image showed a small green bug type on her X-Gear, while what stood before her was similar in body type, just not in color. They also seemed bigger than what was described. The X-Gear said the pokemon before her should be only a bit above a foot tall, while the five before her stood almost twice the size. The back patterns as well seemed... off, but Lilith didn't have much time to take a look. "Something isn't right..." Lilith said, unable to finish as the five began to approach aggressively.
Lilith quickly turned, looking at the way she had just come. It had already been covered in a thick layer of the silky web she had encountered earlier. Although she still held the torch and machete in her hands, the Spinarak didn't seem to be afraid. Ignis had already moved into his typical defensive position, blocking the path between the bug pokemon and his trainer. Vesper launched off her head, landing beside Ignis and barring her teeth. It was obvious that Lilith was going to have to fight her way out of this. She mentally prayed that she wouldn't find herself stuck in a position like she had in an earlier battle on route one, with an extremely pissed off Drilbur. Although Vesper and Ignis had fought side by side, they had been out matched by a single pokemon and the three struggled to make it past that alive.
A shiver went up the tall woman's spine. Had she just sentenced herself and her pokemon to an early death? It was clear that she would have no chance to escape the five. Lilith quickly bit down the thought, not wanting to show fear in the face of adversary. "Ignis, use ember on the ground around us in a circle. Make it so they can't get close to us without burning their feet. Avoid the string though." Lilith said quickly, remembering that if she managed to light the string on fire, she would surely be caught in a webbed prison and burn to death. "Vesper, use supersonic on the two on the far right."
The two pokemon nodded, quickly getting to work as ordered. Ignis let out a small roar, launching embers in a semi circle in front of himself, effectively cutting off the path between himself and the Spinarak if they so chose to come by foot. Vesper herself let out a loud screech, aiming for the ones on the right. The attack managed to hit and the two Spinarak backed up, rubbing their legs over their eyes as they stumbled backwards.
The attack didn't do much to phase the three that still approached. Three was easier to tackle that five, Lilith argued with herself as the sliver of fear managed to creep into her mind once again. Spinarak #1 launched a string shot, managing to miss his intended target, Ignis, completely. Lilith however, was all but delighted to be hit in the legs by the sticky attack. She tried to pry the sticky string from leggings but only found it adhering to her hand as well. It was more than obvious now that escape was not an option. "Shit." She cursed, bending down and delicately working the machete to at least unbind her legs, "Vesper, Ignis, handle this while I cut myself free." Lilith commanded, trying not to drop the torch as she struggled to free herself. The fear of immobility was greater than the fear of not being able to escape. At least with her legs free, Lilith could fight tooth and nail if it came to that.
Ignis barked his understanding, howling loudly to raise his own attack. Vesper used screech, aiming at the one who had already had attempted to attack Ignis. As the duo launched their own supportive attacks Spinarak #2 launched his, using scary face. Vesper felt herself becoming slower as an irrational fear of the pokemon swamped her. The third Spinarak used confusion, aiming for the bat pokemon who had just launched herself from the ground. The physic attack hit Vesper square in the chest, knocking her from the air.
Ignis growled his dissaproval at his teammate, and launched himself forward. It wad clear that Lilith's tactic of building a smoldering line of defense was working. Although the three attacking bug types hissed and spit at their opponents, they didn't cross the line. Using this to his advantage, Ignis used ember, aiming at Spinarak #1. The attack hit the pokemon square on it's body, sending it scuttling back in a fit of rage.
Lilith, who was still struggling to free herself, had managed to seat herself. Having stuck the torch firmly in the ground, she was gently sawing at the space between her legs in a rather desperate attempt to free herself. Managing to look up briefly, she caught the tail end of Vesper's attack. "Good one buddy!" She cried, trying to keep the wavering from her voice. Noibat had picked herself up and launched above the ring of smoldering embers. In the air she was almost untouchable, using leech life on Spinarak #1 in an effort to regain some stamina after the confusion attack. It worked brilliantly and seemed to deplete Spinarak #1's own health enough so that he retreated from the battling, collapsing just inches before getting to the surrounding webbing to escape. Noibat cried, enjoying her own victory.
However, the victory itself was short lived. One of the two Spinarak who had been disabled with the supersonic previous managed to join the fray. Spinarak #2 used the moment between attacks to launch his own scary face, aimed at slowing down Ignis. It worked perfectly, and the fire type found himself battling his own irrational fear. Spinarak #3 used string shot, once again slowing down Ignis. Spinarak #4 attempted to copy his brethren in slowing down Vesper with his own string shot, only managing to fail spectacularly. The attack managed to miss the flying type completely, falling harmlessly onto a hanging dead tree branch.
Ignis shook off the string that covered him, and launched another ember attack at Spinarak #2. Although the bug type tried to avoid it, he only managed to move most of his body away from the oncoming fire. The entire right side of his body managed to catch the burn. An angry scream and he moved back, trying to tend his wounds as his siblings approached, coming in for another attack. Vesper took the shifting in attacks as an opportunity to swoop down from above, using tackle to completely knock out Spinarak #2 in the effort.
Of course, this minor victory was once again temporary as the fifth Spinarak recovered from confusion and launched itself into the fray. Ignis wanted to attack, but found himself moving to slow to avoid the two confusions coming from Spinarak #3 and #4 in his direction. He took the brunt of the attack, only managing to move his head away in an attempt to dodge it. Despite the double attack, Ignis found himself thankful that their had been no type advantage. Though the ringing in his ears didn't help anything.
Vesper watched all this in horror, having taken for granted her own ability to dodge attacks for granted. Before Spinarak #5 could get a decent foot hold in the battle, she swooped down with a supersonic, landing a direct hit onto the attacking bug type. Spinarak #5, now blinding by confusion turned onto the closest target, Spinarak #4. Letting out a brutal confusion attack, Spinarak #5 managed to land a critical hit on Spinarak #4, nearly knocking him out in the process.
By this point, Lilith had managed to pry enough of the string away that she could walk, so long as she didn't allow her legs to bunch together. As she stood up, gathering the machete and torch, she surveyed the scene before her. Already it appeared as if two of the Spinarak's were out cold. One was fighting it's own team members. That still left two hell bent on destroying her. Before she could call out another attack, Lilith managed to get a good luck at Ignis who was now covered in remnants of web and swaying on his feet. "Shit." Lilith managed to get out before rummaging quickly through her bag. At the bottom of it was a small purple spray bottle. It was a potion given to her at the start of her journey by The Ambassador. Lilith had wanted to hold off on using it until necessary, and it seemed necessary now.
Lilith lumbered over to her fire type, dropping to her knees and liberally applying the oddly medicinal smelling potion to her pokemon. It was intriguing to watch the liquid soak into her pokemon's fur, quickly healing the damage and reinvigorating him. Ignis barked his approval, wagging his stubby tail before quickly turning his attention back to the attackers.
Luckily, only Spinarak #3 was attack, aiming a confusion at the Noibat that circled him. Although the attack hit, the Noibat shook it off, keeping the attention focused on herself so that Spinarak #4 and #5 could duke it out between themselves, and leave Ignis open to attack.
Now that Lilith was back up, she took stock of the situation. Spinarak #4 was struggling to remain conscious. "Ignis, ember on the one in the middle!" Lilith cried, pointing to #4. Doing as he was told, the fire type tried to ignore the slowness in which his body moved. Still, he managed to let out the firey attack and took down the Spinarak pretty quickly. It's oddly colored body smoldered under the fire attack, and it let out one last screech before collapsing onto the ground. "Good job, Ignis, just two more to go!" Lilith cried, the fear she had experienced earlier slowly creeping away. Perhaps she stood a chance after all. Lilith made a mental note to have more confidence in her team from now on.
Before Lilith was able to command Vesper to do anything, the fifth Spinarak suffering from confusion managed to stumble over his own feet, landing hard on his face. Lilith shook her head, she'd deal with him last. There was still the issue of the third Spinkarak who seemed full of piss and vinegar and was eyeing the fire barrier. "Vesper, use tackle. Ignis, use ember!" Lilith commanded, pointing to the third Spinarak.
The Noibat swooped down, slamming her body into the bug type. It cried out in pain, turning to face it's attacker. As it did so, Noibat pulled back quickly, allowing Ignis a clear shot at the bug type. He launched another slow ember attack, managing to nail the Spinarak square on. Once again, the bug typed dropped quickly and Lilith found herself mentally thanking the massive type advantage she had.
This left only a single Spinarak, who had managed to snap himself out of confusion. He quickly realized all his team members were down. Instead of running, he attacked his closest target, which was the Noibat with it's back turned to him. Vesper took the brunt of the attack, dropping to her knees and rolling away to avoid a repeat. As she rose back to her feet, the obvious trembling in her body gave away her failing stamina. At least their opponent was already slightly hurt from his previous stumble, Lilith reasoned.
While the final Spinarak backed up, preparing for another attack, Lilith realized she had to end it now, before Vesper went down. "Vesper, use leech life, steal what you can and retreat. Ignis get in there and finish this bugger off." Lilith cried, trying to ignore her own delight at getting to use a stupid pun in the heat of the battle.
Vesper did as she was told, managing to get enough air to launch the attack without being within reach. She managed to steal enough health to keep her from passing out before she landed. Ignis launched himself over the protective ember line, launching a brutal ember attack that immediately killed the Spinarak on impact. The little bug's body caught ablaze, managing to light some of the trapping webbing surrounding the clearing. It quickly began to spread and Lilith found herself swearing and panicking. They had managed to defeat the enemy, but they would now burn to death.
As if Arceus himself was looking down into the clearing, the clouds let out one last massive crack of thunder before the rain exploded downwards. Lilith sunk to her knees, uncaring that her leggings would get dirty and torn, or that she may very well find herself stuck once again. The feeling of relief flooded over her, and she had to angrily wipe at her eyes to avoid tears. The fires in the clearing went out quickly as the entire area was drenched in life saving rain.
Ignis hobbled over, sitting down and leaning unceremoniously onto his trainer. "We did it guys." Lilith said, running her hand through Vesper's hair as she limped over, crawling into Lilith's lap. "But we're not done yet." She said, trying to seem as if she didn't enjoy this moment as much as she did. The warmth of her two pokemon helped to steady the slight tremble in her own hands, but she knew she couldn't stay there long. Five Spinarak did not equate a swarm, and she was not exactly ready to deal with another five.
With much regret, Lilith pulled herself up and removed the X-Gear from her belt. Out of the five Spinarak, three were very clearly dead. The first two lay in curled balls, their feet tucked in tightly. From the slight rise in and fall of their chest, Lilith gathered they weren't dead. She rolled one onto it's stomach with her foot, and used her Photo Chip to take a few clear pictures. She then used the photo application to take a picture of the clearing and a distant shot of the three smoldering corpses. She would write up a report in her data log later, possibly sell off her findings.
She looked down to the two who remained still and grimaced. She didn't want to outright kill them, despite the trouble they were causing. If she left them here, they were liable to attack again. The only thing left to do was capture them to avoid problems later on. Perhaps she could even sell them? It was obvious they were mutations, someone might be willing to pay to study them?
Withdrawing two empty pokeballs from her belt, she touched each one of the fainted bug types as her own pokemon looked on with curious expressions. As they vanished into a flash of red light, Lilith rubbed her temples, trying in vain to rub away the pounding headache.

Lilith put the two recently filled pokeballs in her travel pack, choosing to deal with them later. For now, her biggest worry was the storm. Her torch remained lit, a special coating on the actual flammable part made it near impossible to be put out by water. If she needed to stop the flame, her best bet would be to scuff it out while avoiding the massive amount of webbing that surrounded her. "You guys ready to go?" Lilith said, absently wiping away the water droplets that began to fall down her face. She tucked away the long black strands of hair that began to break free of their pins and product. As the rain took the poof from her outfit, the woman began to look like a less worse for wear. Her skinny exterior began to show, the dark make up around her eyes began to run, giving her a ghastly appearance.
In another time, the woman would anguish over her appearance. For now, she was just ready to leave the forest and return to the camp to rest up. In response to her question, her two pokemon nodded, coming closer to their trainer as she pulled the machete free from it's resting on the outside of her bag with the intent to cut her way out of the forest. It was then, however, that the woman realized she didn't exactly remember where they had come into the clearing.
The Spinarak she had just defeated had covered her hole before the battle. The woman looked around, realizing she had been completely turned around and had no idea how exactly she was getting out. "Shit." She muttered, angrily pushing away more soaked strands of hair poking into her eyes. Brandishing the weapon, Lilith figured her best bet was to start hacking. If she could get out of the web, she could possibly get her bearing.
Before she had a chance to even pick a spot to start, three more Spinarak descended from the trees above. "Double shit." The woman said, resisting the urge to slice her way through the pokemon. Logically, they were quicker than her and had an advantage. While she remained struck to the ground, her three new opponents had the advantage of the entire clearing being covered in web and easy to maneuver if you were a bug type.
As the three began their descent, Lilith took a glance at her two pokemon who had already taken up a defensive position around her. Although they both seemed more than exhausted from the previous battle, they seemed stronger somehow. Although their was no physical difference that Lilith could detect, she noticed it in the way they held themselves. At a little less perilous point, she would examine her pokemon closer to learn why the change in stance held an air of power, but for now, she was a bit more occupied.
Before Lilith had a chance to call an attack or strategy, Ignis made a noise she hadn't heard before. A deep throaty roar ripped from his maw, echoing angrily throughout the clearing. The three Spinarak stopped their attack and retreated into the trees above their head. The woman stood their dumbstruck, her ears ringing from the sudden out burst. "Wow, Ignis." She said, trying to conceal her surprise.
Lilith was granted no time to praise her pokemon on his attack before a shot of string flew past her head. Although they had retreated, the Spinarak had not left the battle yet. "Vesper, can you see them?" The woman asked, as her Noibat launched into the air, flying up into the trees. A moment later, and a few dodged string shots, Vesper chirped. It was then she unleashed a screech at the three bug types who had nested above in a rather strategic position. They had managed to find a perch among thick branches, leaving attacks from below impossible.
All three Spinarak covered the holes by what could be assumed was ears. They hissed angrily, shooting more string at the flying type. Despite their position being safe from attack, it allowed little mobility among the messy foliage. They were forced to aim straight ahead, or risk covering the area around them in a sticky web. Vesper used this to her advantage, dodging the string shot easily by simply ascending into the air.
"Can you get them down here?" Lilith cried, straining her eyes to through the rain into the dense leaf coverage. The Noibat almost chuckled to herself. Of course she could get them down, this was something she had learned long ago from her mother but had previously lacked the strength to do so. She beat her wings rapidly, creating a massive gust. The three Spinarak dug down, thinking this was another weak attack from the flying type.
However, they were wrong. It didn't take long for the powerful gust to knock them free of their roosting. As they tumbled, they shot web angrily, trying to save themselves from the fall. They landed in a pile before Lilith and Ignis. Vesper swooped down, cackling at her own ingenuity as the bug pokemon scrambled to right themselves. Now it seemed, they were on an even playing field.
From the looks of the group before her, these Spinarak were just as weak as the one prior. Their only advantage now was to attack in a group, something they obviously intended to do. Spinarak #1 and #3 shot out a large amount of string, managing to cover Ignis before he moved out of the way. His hackles rose, as he realized once again he was covered in the sticky net.
Spinarak wasted no time launching at confusion at Ignis, an attack he wasn't able to even remotely dodge due to the string slowing his movements. Lilith watched all this unfold before her, quicker than she was able to bark out an order. Now that the three Spinarak had attacked, she had her open. The screech from earlier had managed to weaken the three, whether or not they had realized it. The fall had been pretty high as well, Lilith reasoned they must be hurting. Her pokemon could finish this quickly, even if they were hurting from the previous battle.
"Ignis, use ember on the middle one! Vesper, use super sonic on the first one!" Lilith cried. Ignis did as he was told, only this time shooting out a stream of embers that managed to almost completely smother the Spinarak. The ear splitting screech as it was burned to death would haunt Lilith for years to come, but for now, she was caught up in the new wave of adrenaline. Vesper also did as she was told, swooping down and letting out her own screech. It managed to hit Spinarak #1 completely, causing temporarily confusion as the noise scrambled its' already small brain.
The bug type turned on it's own sibling, shooting out string. Spinarak #3 was not expecting an attack from his own side and managed to take brunt of the slowly attack to it's body. #3 cried out in anger, spitting it's own web at the first one, who returned with a scary face.
At this point, the trio had stopped, all eyes focused on the battle that waged before them. Within moments the two had already begun tackling each other. Hissing and spitting as they bit into each other. "Uh.... Do we let them finish?" Lilith asked, her head titled in curiosity as they two punched it out. Sixteen spindly legs flailed as they crashed into each other, rolling around in a tangle of limbs and web.
A moment more and the two lay in a heap, legs occasionally twitching but utterly exhausted. Both were covered in small scratches, a small bit of liquid red marring the delicate white of the webbing. "Do we uh... kill them?" Lilith asked, walking over to the attached Pokemon. The slightly larger one, crushing the one on top with it's weight hissed a little as she approached before hanging it's head in defeat.
Even as she asked the question, her two pokemon joining her mutely, she knew she couldn't outright kill them. It was obvious from their size that they were younger members of the swarm. Lilith's heart immediately skipped a beat as she thought about killing them, especially in such a helpless manner. She sighed, obviously annoyed at how she was forced again to capture two more pokemon she would never use. Later on, she would explain she captured them with intent to sell them, not because it broke her heart to know she'd be killing babies of the deadly swarm that threatened to kill the babies of her own species.
As she dropped the two pokeballs on the heap of bug pokemon, she sighed once again in disgust. Two flashes of red light swallowed the pokemon before landing in the dirt. Lilith bent down, resisting the urge to kick the pokeballs. Reaching down, she picked up the muddy balls, wiping away the web that had been pulled up with it.
Before hastily throwing the pokeballs in her back, Lilith shook her head, almost smiling at the irony of how easy the battle had gone. Less then ten minutes ago she thought she would die in the forest. Now, she realized that perhaps the bug types weren't actually as organized as she had thought. "Alright guys, you ready to find our way out?" She asked, hoping her exit would be less eventful than her entrance.
