PARTY | June 15th, 9:00 a.m., Cloudy
It had been two weeks since Jellal made his first visit to Professor Oak's wonderful lab and in that time a lot had changed in his life. He now had a new, little Pokemon to take care of; a journey to set out on; and he found an egg! All seemed well and right as rain in his tiny world, but now it was time to set out on the mission given to him by the 'Good Professor'.
He had woken up a little later than he had hoped that morning. Wanting to get an early start as to make the most ground before the heat of the day set in. But alas, he was running around like a mad person at the last minute because clearly he was not actually ready for any of this.
"Okay, I've got my X-gear and chips, Pokeballs, data log, tent, corka...."
He trailed off, neatly packing everything into his bag just as he wanted it so he would know where it was at a moments notice. You can never be too prepared right? And it wasn't like he had much to pack anyway. After about 45 minutes of this he was finally ready... or was he?
I can't help but feel like I'm forgetting something...
Just then a small, dark creature popped out from under his bed with arms... nubs?... raised in a air. Phantump had been waiting for just the right time to strike and with Jellal distracted, trying to get ready for the trip, this was the perfect opportunity.
You would think this would have not phased Jellal, but having been so rapped up in packing it did make him jump a bit. Which was immediately followed by a sigh of relief.
"There you are, Salix! You had me worried for a second there."
Over the course of the past two weeks the two had seemed to be bonding pretty well. No big trouble so far (although they hadn't started traveling just yet.) we'll see how long that lasts
"Okay buddy, I think we're all set. Is there anything else that we need?"
"Tum, tump!"
The little tree ghost used its tiny arm nubs to point at an oval shaped object sitting on a desk that was placed by a window looking out to the street.
THE EGG!! "Oh my Arceus! I almost forgot the get!"
Great, just another reason to let him know that he really wasn't ready for any of this. After kicking himself in the butt about this for another 20 minutes it was painfully apparent that he wouldn't be missing any of the summer heat as he had hoped. At least it was a pretty cloudy day.
He finally put his pack on his back and grabbed the egg, holding it tight to his chest. This was it, the moment he had been waiting for his entire life.
"We have to make a quick stop before we head out."
Upon leaving the house they took a left down the path and walked a ways until they arrived at a tree with two adjacent tombstones. Jellal carefully placed the egg to leaning against the larger of the stones and knelt in front of them.
I won't let you down.
Salix must have realized by now what these stones were, because they had been here before, so he began snuggling against Jellal's arm.
"Thanks, little buddy."
There was a sadness in his voice that not many got to hear, but Salix was his partner so there was no hiding anything from him. Getting up after a few minutes Jellal wiped the hair out of his face and pulled himself together.
"Let's get this show on the road!"
He gave a grin that was partially truthful, but there was still a slight undertone of sadness he couldn't get rid of. After grabbing the egg Jellal decided to put Salix and the egg in their respective Pokeballs for a while. This was a bit strange for him, only because ever since he got Salix there wasn't really a reason to put him in his Pokeball just being at home and around the city, but now that they were heading out into the wilderness he thought it best to keep the small Pokemon and the egg away until he was sure it was safe or needed their assistance.
Marching down the path that lead to Route 1 Jellal got a shot of adrenaline. This was really happening! There's no turnig back now, but honestly, why would he want to? He was just that much closer to discovering how to find his parents and nothing was going to stop him.
Pausing at the entrance to the route because the time he already wasted just didn't seem like enough he couldn't help but wonder what was in store for him. What kind of new exciting things would he encounter? Would he make break through discoveries and change the face of science as it is known in Mi-aro? He could only hope. Taking his first step into the wild he couldn't stop smiling.
Wow, just outside of the city and I already feel like I'm in another world.

Smaller Pokemon dotted the entire area, even as soon the trainer stepped out of the gates of Port City. No one had seen any of the larger species in months. Still, there were plenty of options. In front of the trainer was Mirror Lake and the Iron Mine, or he could always just stick to the path and get to Pallet as quickly as possible. As he walked, packs of Rattata scurried past him. Some even ran straight into his legs and were momentarily dazed. What were they even running from? None of their usual predators were around, maybe it was just their time to hunt. Being the skittish creatures that they were, Jellal could easily pick one or two to battle if he wanted. To the right of the path, there was a Dedenne who fished through a small bush, all the trainer could see was its tail, but it seemed like it was searching for some sort of item. The only other interesting thing the trainer noticed along the path was a very apparent pothole that the Rattata were completely avoiding. Of course, there were potholes literally everywhere on Route one, but the rats usually jumped over them if they were in the way. This hole was completely avoided, save one rat who fell in. Its shrill cry stopped seconds after it fell in. Whatever was in there was probably dangerous to say the least.

There were little Pokemon everywhere. You could hardly walk because of how many were running around this place, especially the Rattata. Jellal was just outside of the city gates and he had already lost interest in counting at 13. Save from that, however, the forest was amazing. So much to explore and learn about. He couldn't stop taking pictures. Everything from the potholes in the ground to the wild flora and fauna. Everything was interesting to him. A whole new world for him to discover. speaking of potholes
He had been walking not even 10 minutes when all of a sudden a huge hoard of Rattata came flying out of the bushes that ran parallel to the route. They began running towards him almost as if they were going to attack.
Oh Arceus. Please don't let my tombstone say 'Death by Herd of Purple Rats'...
As the leaders of the large pack got closer he braced himself for the worst. Closing his eyes and tensing his entire body. But the moments passed and he was still standing there. The only thing he felt were tiny bodies scurrying past his legs.
Maybe this isn't the end?
He opened his eyes and the rodents were running past him like he wasn't even there. Save the few who ran into his legs and fell back in a daze. However, when those finally came to it was back to the masses as if nothing had happened.
What are they all running from? Is something coming? Maybe it wouldn't be wise to stay here much longer..
Afraid to move for fear of stepping on the rats he began surveying the area around him. Staring up the path he noticed the Rattata completely avoiding one very specific pothole.
That's odd. I wonder w...
Before he could finish his thought one of the poor rats fell into the hole and let out a high pitched scream that was cut way too short for his liking.
That didn't sound good. Maybe I should go check that out.
He attempted to move his legs but accidentally knocked one of the rats down.
"Oh Arceus, I'm so sorry, little one."
But it didn't even check up. Just got back to it's feet and kept moving alone. Jellal definitely felt like if they were that spooked that maybe he shouldn't stay in this area.
Of course as soon as he thought that something caught his eye. Looking to his right, he saw a small black tail with a little puff of hair at the end poking out of a low lying bush. From the movement of the tail, whatever creature was attached at the other end was definitely digging around for something in there. By this time the hoard had finally ended and Jellal could move again.
Maybe I'll check this one out first, it looks a little less threatening.
Moving over to the bush with the black tail he could hear little mouse-like noises coming from the bush as well. Just how many rodents could be in one place at the same time exactly? He knelt down next to the bush to get a better look. He took a picture of the tail poking out of the bush and chuckled a bit. It kind of looked like the bush actually had a tail itself.
"Hey, what you doin' in there?"
Obviously Jellal knew there wasn't anyway this creature could understand him, but it was worth a shot, right? At least the sound of his voice might get the tiny things attention or something?

The bush rustled as Jellal called out to the mouse. "De?" The small, plump, orange body popped out and gazed at the trainer. For a moment, it only seemed to be curious about what he was, but it quickly realized Jellal was human. "Den ne!" it called as it jumped away from the trainer.
Electrical sparks began to form on the hamster's whisker-antenna. Looked like it was ready to battle. Probably because Jellal had intruded on the Pokemon's stash, although a quick glance would show that there was nothing more than a pile of berries in the bush. Still, it was Dedenne's and it would guard its treasure with all that it had.
A low grunt escaped the Pokemon as it shot toward Jellal.
Welcome to the wild.
Dedenne used Tackle!

Just as Jellal had expected, the sound of his voice did capture the creatures attention. The bush began shaking rapidly and out popped a tiny, mouse-like animal. He couldn't help notice the whiskers... antenna?... seemed to be vibrating almost like they were holding electricity.
I recognize this guy from my lessons.... What was it called? Uh... Dandy? Denda?.... No.... Oh well, it starts with a D. I know what for sure.
Holding up his X-gear Jellal snapped a quick picture of it (he really was gonna use up all his storage on that thing.. did it even have storage?) This seemed to make the rodent's expression change from one of curiosity to one of horror and rage. It jumped back from Jellal, yelling in a small, squeaky voice he couldn't help but think was adorable. Reaching out is hand in a half stop position he tried to calm the hamster down.
"It's okay, little guy. You don't have to be scared of me. I won't hurt you."
But his words seemed to fall on deaf ears as the creature's whiskers began to spark-up like exposed electrical wire.
"Oh, sh..."
With a low sound of anger (or at least low for the squeaky mouse) it sprung forward in a burst of energy. There was no getting out of the way, Jellal was too close. So, instead, he braced himself for the worst. He threw his arms up in front of his face and tensed every muscle group he could think of just as the creature made contact with his skin. The blow had a lot more force behind it than you might expect from a being of it's stature, but he guessed it was wrong to underestimate these wild Pokemon.
Knocked to the ground he had very little time to think. There was no telling what that thing would do next if he just laid here.
What do I do? What do I do?!
Obviously book smarts will only get you so far in this world. After an attack like that it's hard to get your head back on straight. The only thing he could think is that he needed help. But from who?
I HAVE A POKEMON!
Clearly... this was going to be a long journey... He took his bag off of this back and opened it up, trying to remember which pocket he put it in.
Here, right where I left it.
Pressing the button on the front of the ball he released Salix from his confinement. At first the young Pokemon turned to his master with glee, not knowing the gravity of the situation.
"Salix, please. Do something about that thing."
The ghost turned around finally noticing the small electric rodent fuming behind it.
"Tump! Phan tum tump!"
Is he... yelling at it?
Jellal hadn't accounted for this. Was that Salix's big plan? Yell at the mouse until is bowed down? Well, it definitely didn't look like it had any plans of doing that. If anything, the stump's yelling only made it angrier. It's oblong, beady eyes seemed to narrow and it began charging again. Only this time it was headed for the new obstacle in it's way.
"SALIX, LOOK OUT!!"
He didn't know what to do. If something happened to his Pokemon there would be no forgiving himself. But as the rodent charged forward Salix didn't even flinch. A purple glow began emanating from the tree-ghost's small eyes. This caught Jellal by surprise.
When did he learn to do that?

Salix's move seemed to take a few moments to actually register, the Feral's eyes slowly began to glow blue as it ran towards the stump. The move seemed to finally take effect just as the mouse made contact with Salix. Or... faded through Salix..? The ghost didn't even allow a change in its features as the Feral fazed through it. How did that happen..?
This mishap melded perfectly with Dedenne's new confusion. Another squeaky growl 'roared' from the mouse as it once again flew towards Phantump, this time, it landed face first on the ground.
Alright, so this wasn't going its way. Apparently it couldn't make contact with whatever that thing was, so it decided to go for thing it knew it could! Slowly the hamster pulled itself from the earth. It tettered a bit as it tried to regain concentration, it actually looked intoxicated, kind of cute.
Its eyes narrowed past the Pokemon and to the trainer. With a snort, Dedenne ran full force towards the human again. This'll teach em!!
Dedenne is now confused! Dedenne hurt itself in confusion. Dedenne used Tackle! Olive forgot Dedenne only knows normal attacks at Lv 1!!!

Even with this new found glow in the ghost-trunk's eye it seemed like the mouse was still going to ram right into him. However, Salix still didn't move and showed a determination that was a bit, well, Jellal like. hard headed as a Cranidos
Oh my gosh, he's gonna get hurt and it's gonna be all my fault.
Not able to bear the thought of that the trainer reached for Salix's Pokeball. At least if he was in there he couldn't get injured by the rampaging rodent. He was about to press the button on the ball, but he was too late. The mouse was already making contact with his Pokemon.
"Nooooooo!"
But then something amazing happened. Instead of ramming into Salix, as the tiny creature had done to him, it passed right though the tree stump's ethereal body like he wasn't even there.
What the..?
Catching its footing the mouse went in for another try, but again faded right through the ghost as if he couldn't be touched. But Jellal had touched him, so there was no denying his tangibility. What was going on here?
OH WAIT! That move, it's tackle! And Ghost-types can't be touched by moves like that!
Looks like all those lessons had finally been put to use for something after all of this time. He felt slightly dumb for not catching that before.
The rodent had just gotten up from falling on it's face after traveling though Salix's ghostly body. Getting a look at it's eyes Jellal could tell that something was up. They were glowing a weird blue color.
I don't think they were like that before....
Looking at Salix, he could still see remnants of that purple glow from earlier. It finally hit him. Why was he such a ditz?
Salix used Confuse Ray. That's why it fell when it passed thought the second time.
Well that explained the blue glow in the rodent's eyes. Speaking of the rodent, it was charging again. But this time, not at Salix. It was running full speed, right towards him.
Not this again... "Salix?!"
Jellal braced himself again. Expecting the worst. He didn't think he could take much more of this. The mouse got closer and closer and with every slightly wobbly step it seemed to gain a little speed.
Salix began to panic a bit. What was he to do? If he didn't act fast his master would be hurt. cue light bulb ding
"Tump!"
With that cry for battle the young ghost sprung into action. He speed to get in between his master and the threatening Pokemon. Jellal was so confused. The attacker would still just fly though Salix and hit him anyway. What was his Pokemon trying to accomplish?
How naive he was to doubt his partner. Just then a red flash escaped from Salix's eyes and engrossed the oncoming mouse. But it was still on it's way. There was no stopping that thing. Jellal braced him once more, knowing this was going to hurt. As he had expected the rodent passed right though his pokemon and was headed straight for him.
Here it comes...
But instead of a pounding hit that knocked him back, it was more like a light tap. The orange rodent bounced off of his skin with a cute, almost cushioned flop.
"What the..."
The mouse looked just about as confused as Jellal felt, but he assumed part of that was because of the confuse ray. Phantump still looked ready to battle even though it was clear that this poor creature couldn't do much else. Still he floats over to where the tiny, orange mouse is standing in a daze. Creating a dark aura around itself he made a a face that would even have frightened Jellal, knocking the rodent back again for good measure and causing it to freeze up.
"That's enough, Salix. I think he's learned his lesson."
Going over to the bush where the mouse was when he originally found him, Jellal bent down and picked up some berries it had stashed away.
Well, look at that. It attacked me because it thought I was gonna take its berries.

"Dyenne!!" the rodent shouted as Jellal picked up its berries. With a series of upset squeaks, it began to slap the man's legs with its fluffy paws, "Den den den!!" Needless to say, it wasn't doing much harm. However, Jellal ought to keep in mind that Feral Pokemon didn't operate in the same way Domestic Pokemon did as far as 'attacks' go.
After all, if Dedenne wanted to sink its teeth into - Yowch! - Ah. It did.
At least the trainer found 4 peppips and a poiup. Not too bad for such a small fight. Of course, wait, what was going on with Dedenne's whiskertannaes? Sparks zipped from the rodents round cheek to the tip of its whiskers in some sort of pattern. What could that mean?
Thin black tails with large ears began to pop up in bushes all around the trainer. Oh no.. Did it just... call for help? Suddenly a light shock zapped the ground near the partners. It was likely only a warning shot, but that still meant at least one of the mice was stronger than their current opposer.
Then, several Dedenne revealed themselves from behind their respective bushes. There weren't too many. Six at the most. Plus the one that Salix rendered harmless - harmless to Salix that is.
Jellal received 4 Peppips and 1 Poiup! Six more Dedenne appeared!

PARTY | June 15th, 11:xx a.m., Partly Cloudy
The mouse wasn't too happy about Jellal finding it's berries at all. It began yellling at him in a squeaky tone and hitting his leg with it's adorably tiny paws. He just brushed this off, however, because he was so interested in the berries he had found. There were four of the same kind and one of another.
Those four, they must be.. pepper?... no... PEPPIPS! That's what they're called. Meaning this other one has to be a Poiup. Nice!
Still ignoring the obviously distraught rodent, Jellal look his pack from this shoulders and placed them in a personal compartment. This enraged the tiny Pokemon even more and it decided to sink it's teeth into his leg.
"Ouch!!"
He flung the creature off his leg. It flew a few feet away from him and bounced on the ground near some more bushes that grew next to the path.
"That hurt you little..!"
But he wasn't able to finish his sentence. The rodent's whisker-antenna were beginning to spark in a rhythm almost like Morse Code.
Arceus, what now?
Suddenly black tails and large black and white ears began to appear thought the bushes. This sent a wave a fear through Jellal's body. Him and Salix could take one of these things no problem, but just how many more were gonna show up? Just then a bolt of electricity flew in his direction. He jumped to the side and the bolt hit about half a foot from where he was previously standing. Had it missed on purpose?
When these new opponents finally revealed themselves, Salix seemed to lose some of the confidence he carried earlier. He floated to Jellal's side and held onto his rolled shirt sleeve. This put Jellal on edge. If Salix was really that scared, maybe they should get out of there.
"Hey guys, you don't really wanna hurt us right?"
Again, anything he said seemed to fall on deaf ears. They really couldn't understand a word he was saying. But what was he going to do? They obviously couldn't take all seven of these things on at once. He looked around to see if there was anything around that he could use to his advantage when something caught his silver eye. The pothole from before!
The other Pokemon avoided that thing like a plague. Maybe if I could just get there they would leave us alone.
But was the possibility of being confronted by whatever was in there worth it? Well, it was something he had to risk. At the moment that was his only option of getting out of here in one piece.
Jellal grabbed Salix in his arms and took off running up the path. There was no time to get out his Pokeball. He could hear something behind him and assumed it was the mice, but he wasn't going to turn around to see if they were following. He ran as fast as he could, not daring to slow down for fear of being fried by those rodents' electricity.
"Just a... little... further...."
He was breathing heavily and the awkward position his arms were in made it harder to run. He also had almost tripped in another pothole along the way, but somehow, he made it to the hole. It did seem pretty ominous, but there was no slowing down now. He had to jump it. Let's just hope whatever was in there didn't decided he was on the menu. Reaching the edge of the hole Jellal leaped for his life.
Oh Arceus, please let this work!

The next few moments almost seemed to pass in slow motion frames as Jellal took a leap of faith across the huge pothole. Twin yellow eyes gleamed from the pit, but in a flash they began to instead radiate a blood-red coloration. A purple glow joined the color show beneath the eyes. It happened so fast that the trainer would likely not even recognize what it was, but the glow turned into hundreds - okay like 30 - of tiny needles. A few grazed the trainer's leg as he flew across the hold.
Acute pain grasped the small portion of the leg that was hit, though there didn't seem to be any other consequences behind the strike. Still moving in slow motion - Just as the darts were released, the creature sprung straight up from the hole. One unfortunate Dedenne had followed so close to the trainer, that it received the next attack. Attack, of course, meaning the mouse was swallowed whole in midair.
As the rodent was devoured, the creature descended in a straight path back into the hole. Jellal watched as each of the remaining Dedenne's eyes grew wide with fear before they scurried off into the bushes. It seemed as if the trainer's plan worked.
Even better, any sound that seemed to reverberate from the hole, rustles, breathing, quiet rattling, had disappeared. Whatever had just saved the man had apparently gotten its fill and disappeared from its hunting area. If Jellal wanted to go into the hole and check it out, that was an option, but there would likely be more of whatever that was, he had no way of getting out, and only one Pokemon who was fairly new to the wild.
What was the creature anyway? If Jellal though back, he would remember the creature had a completely straight body that tapered at the end, a rounded snout, purple coloration, and a glowing red ring around the top half of its body that matched the color of the eyes.
Along the edge of the pothole were various skeletons of small, rodent-like Pokemon. If Jellal wanted to leave and revisit the place when he was stronger, he had a way to mark it, of course, adding something a bit more permanent might help too.
Beyond the hole, Jellal still had places to go. He was closer to Port City than Pallet at this time, so if he felt that medical assistance would be more beneficial, he should go back instead of forward. However, if he decided he could handle it, there were still two interesting areas to explore. Ahead were the sounds of other Pokemon, the Rattata from before, as well as the now recognized cry of a Dedenne.
Regardless, if Jellal moved forward there would certainly be another challenge in store, if he stayed, there was likely a chance of death, but if he returned to Port, he could always come back later and pick up where he left off.
Who's that Pokemon? = 1SP What Attack did it use? = .5SP
