February, First Week Nothing like a good meal to make you feel a bit more optimistic about the task ahead. Even after fifteen years, Vanessa and Viola couldn't get over how good the food was on Mi-aro. As much as they were made uncomfortable in Port City, their first year here had shown them the wonders of seafood, especially corka, and made them fall hopelessly in love with it. They missed the fresh berries the old man used to grow--and they certainly were not going to waste the poiup berries Anita had given them by having them for a snack--but corka would forever have a place in their heart, and a corka sandwich always made a fine pick-me-up. Their new eevee seemed to agree, as she was still licking mayonnaise from her short little snout as they wandered away from the sandwich shop they'd stopped at for lunch. The young eevee had a distinct spring in her step, her bushy tail waving happily in the air. No one could ever guess she belonged to the scarred, crazy woman, save for the fact that she was obediently prancing right behind them. Viola couldn't help but let a chuckle bubble from them. We still need to name the little fuzzball, she pointed out. We do, Vanessa agreed, But I still don't have any ideas. All I can think of when I look at her is 'bushy tail,' and that's not really a name. We'll come up with something.Eventually.While they realized that they really should be going toward the Global Market to see if they couldn't track down this Kourtney girl and get any useful information out of her, they found themselves wandering, instead, toward the outskirts of town. While trying to find this 'maemoss' was important, they realized that they needed to get better acquainted with their new pokemon, too, if they were going to rely on her to fight at their side. The idea brought some bittersweet memories. Chance had been a good scyther. An old one, and only 'theirs' for a few years, but a good one. They'd just needed to look him in the eye and know he cared about them and would stand by them, but that's because they'd known him for years, and he'd been the old man's pokemon before he was theirs. And even then, communicating with him without the old man had been difficult at best. This eevee was a relative unknown. They'd gambled here, and they knew it, but taking any of the starters would have been a gamble, and they'd just had gut feeling about this one. As they got out of the more populated area, they felt themselves starting to relax a bit, and tried to find a nice, quiet patch of grass to sit down. They took their time sitting down cross-legged, and then gave their eevee a little, lopsided smile. "Come'ere, bushy tail. We've got to have a talk about things."To their surprise, the eevee trotted right over and reared up to put her head and front paws on one of their thighs. She wagged her tail at them, those dark eyes staring up at them innocently. Vanessa reached over to gently stroke her head as Viola tried to figure out how to start. "So, you heard everything in there, right? That we're, you know, kind of like a doduo? Have two minds in our head?"The eevee licked their hand at Vanessa's petting, but paused as she was spoken to. She blinked up at them with that innocent expression again. "Vee," she yipped, with a few vigorous wags of her tail. They blinked back. Is that a 'yes?'I have no idea. A small sigh escaped them. This is going to be harder than we thought, isn't it?Possibly. Viola tried her best to smile again, and took control of the petting hand to scratch their eevee under the chin. "Well, you see, we don't normally tell people about that stuff. Anita's the only human who knows, and you and those other pokemon she showed us are the only pokemon who know.""It...It's kind of a scary thing, for people," Vanessa piped up, "People are already a little scared, because we act strange, and we're afraid of what would happen if we told them why..." One of the eevee's ears gave a flick as they shifted control and their voice changed slightly, and when the chin-scratching stopped she looked up at them curiously, before rubbing her head on their hand and licking it again. "Glad you're not scared too," Vanessa added with a small giggle. Viola finally pulled their hand away and wiped the eevee slobber and fur on one of the legs of their pants. "Anyway, when we're around other humans, we won't use plurals to talk about ourselves. 'I' instead of 'we' and stuff like that. And, when we talk to humans, we say our name is 'Vanessa,' because Vanessa was in this head first, but my name's Viola.""Don't...don't worry too much if you can't tell who's talking. We're both your trainer, after all," Vanessa added. The eevee seemed to be listening, but she was also making an effort to climb over their thigh, which ended up with her tumbling over the other side of it and landing in the little space formed by their crossed legs. She landed on her face with her back legs in the air, and squirmed and struggled with much kicking until she was sitting up, with only mildly disheveled fur indicating the moment of gracelessness. "Vee!" she yipped with a wag of her tail. Viola couldn't help but let out a short, barking laugh and reach down to ruffle the little eevee's fur on the top of her head even more. "Well, good to clear that up with you," she said. "We don't have a name for you yet," Vanessa added, "But we'll think of something special for you."Viola chuckled. "Until then, I hope you don't mind being called 'Bushy Tail.'"Bushy Tail didn't appear to mind much at all, if another attempt to lick their hand was any indication.
Party: Any happiness for Bushy Tail? And Connection skill for Vanessa / Viola? Looking for pokemon.

A startled yelping sound would vibrate the air and only steadily grow louder in the next thirty seconds. In about half the time, the cause for it became quickly apparent as a Lillipup came bounding in the general direction of Vanessa, Viola, and Bushy. Upon his stub of tail was a firmly secured Anorith- as if for whatever reason the Bug type had decided to go along for the chaotic ride. What events may or may not have led up to the situation mattered little in that moment as the pup continued to yelp and cry, running as fast as his short legs could take him in a ditch effort to try and get the strange creature to let go.

The sudden yelping immediately grabbed the attention of all present, and Bushy Tail half-leaped, half-climbed out the spot she'd been so determined to sit in not long ago as the feral lillipup came into view. Vanessa and Viola could only blink their eye in bewilderment for a moment at the strange rodeo going on, though they felt a bit of familiarity regarding the bug-like one. Isn't that one of those pokemon that started swarming the city last month? Viola wondered. An anorith?
I...think so, Vanessa replied, adding, Why is it doing that?
Thrill-seeker? Viola suggested, as they glanced over at Bushy Tail, who was also taking in the scene. The little eevee suddenly looked up at her dual-minded trainer, expression inquiring. Bushy Tail looked at the yelping feral canine, then back at Vanessa and Viola again. Do you think that's a 'can I please help?' look?
It's the look I'd give while asking that.
"Yeah, sure. Go knock the little bugger out," Viola said, waving at the lillipup's unwanted passenger. Unmistakable joy lit up Bushy's face, followed by a determined expression as she raced over to the distressed canine as fast as a creature who looked to be mostly fur, eyes, and ears could race.
As she ran toward the scene, she started yapping at the top of her lungs. "<Cover your eyes and nose!>" she called, trusting the similarity of their species to mean an understanding of the words, and the differences between herself and the attacker to mean an equal lack of it. Whether the feral lillipup chose to listen to her would be up to him, of course, but her course of action would not falter regardless.
As Bushy got closer, she went into a slide, digging her paws into the dirt and dragging her tail along the ground. The motion sent a wave of dirt flying through the air, before she skidded to a stop. Hopefully some dirt in the eyes would dislodge that anorith.
Bushy Tail used Sand Attack! (After warning the Lillipup first)

Whether he even had the capacity to understand the yips of the Eevee or not, the Lillipup was so focused on trying to get the Anorith off that he wasn’t really paying all that much attention to where he was going let alone to what sounds were going on around him. In the corner of his eye he caught the Eevee’s move, and all too quickly he shuts his eyes- more in fear of being attacked in that moment. The Anorith, meanwhile, continued to cling refusing to let go all the same.
The Sand Attack sprayed- but luckily hit the end section of the Lillipup, and as he veered left for some reason, loosened by the sand, the Anorith went flying off, coming in close proximity to Vanessa and Viola for a brief moment before flying past and landing just a few meters away thereafter. The clearly shaken Lillipup was left panting where he had stopped staring off towards the Anorith who appeared to have landed in the grass and was forcing herself up again. In an exasperated show of fear, the Lillipup dove behind the Eevee in an attempt to hide from his clamped rider.
The Anorith, meanwhile, forced herself up slowly and shook her armor form briefly before scuttling one way and then the other as if unsure of what to do now that the joy ride was over.

Vanessa and Viola watched with a blink as the, to their eye, perfectly-executed move caused the anorith to let go of its victim and go flying past them to land in the grass. A lopsided grin crossed their face. Way to go, Bushy Tail, Viola commented in their head, Not bad for a fluffball, huh?
Bushy herself wagged her tail a bit as she saw her move go off without a hitch, though her attention was drawn to the Lillipup as he hid behind her, and she tilted her head a bit at him. Poor thing. Hardly one of the fierce feral pokemon from those stories they told hatchlings about how awful the wilds of Mi-aro were. Taking a chance, she turned and gave the larger canine a gentle, reassuring nudge with her snout. "<Don't you worry. That nasty thing's not chomping on your tail again on my watch,>" she said with a little tail wag.
Meanwhile, as the anorith picked itself up and appeared to be trying to figure out what to do next, there was similar wondering from the dual-minded woman watching it. Those are some wicked claws, Viola observed, Nice armour, too. And don't they evolve to be about human-sized?
I think so, Vanessa replied, Height-wise, anyway. I remember people saying there was a reward at the Emissary for catching them, too.
"Well then, let's grab it!" Viola hollered aloud as she sent them bolting to their feet, though Vanessa was very much on board with the next series of events and didn't stop her from making them charge straight for the little aquatic bug with a determined fire in their eye. They lunged, intending to slam their shoulder into the anorith and pin it to the ground.
In hindsight, they'd probably realize that actually having a pokemon now meant that they could have ordered Bushy Tail to do that, and the eevee was probably more claw-resistant than they were, but old habits died hard, unfortunately.
Bushy Tail is trying to reassure the Lillipup. Vanessa and Viola are trying to tackle the Anorith and pin her so she won't get away.

The confused look on the Lillipup’s features as Bushy Tail spoke was a testament to his lack of understanding of what she was saying, in total. Though they shared some qualities of language in egg group, and though he was sorta sure he knew the general premise for what she was saying, the actual words made little sense to him at the moment- though this also could have just been due to... ya know the whole shock aspect of nearly having one's tail pinched off, that too. However, her tone was soothing, and he calmed a little feeling a tad more confident than before. Glancing in the general direction of the Anorith, he leered a little- not the move, mind you- and growled before barking- only to startle himself at his own voice. Well, this certainly wasn’t the stereotypical feral pokemon now was it? Well… oh well?
The Anorith, meanwhile, was startled upon being more or less tackled, though the armor and sharpness of the claws would cut into Vanessa and Viola’s shoulder upon impact even as she was briefly pinned to the ground. Beyond startled to be attacked by a human, the Anorith briefly flailed before ushering out a Scratch on Vanessa and Viola, managing to cut at their face from where she was.

The armour of an anorith was surprisingly sharp, though maybe the fact that they'd thrown themselves against it with a great deal of assistance from gravity was a factor in that. Either way, they distinctly heard the plates rip through the material of their shirt, and felt the plates cut into into their shoulder. We've had smarter ideas, Vanessa commented as they kept up the pressure regardless of the pain, though they did flinch significantly at the claw lashing out at them.
This flinching wasn't due to the added pain of it cutting into their left cheek, but because of the fact that sharp objects coming anywhere near their face tended to remind them that they didn't particularly want to go losing their other eye. In fact, while their usual instinct in this situation would be to pull out their knife and start stabbing, the only vulnerable place to stab would be the anorith's eyes, and they had no intention of ever inflicting that on another living creature. So, instead, they went about trying to grab the offending pincer-claw at the wrist with their hand and hold it down against the ground to stop that from happening again, then shift and semi-get-up so they could plant one of their knees where they shoulder had been and make a grab for the other claw with their other hand.
We should probably stop by Jasper's office once we're done with this thing.
And invest in a first aid kit.
Bushy Tail noticed the confused look, and looked confused in return. Was it her accent? Then again, he did look kind of shaken up, so maybe that was it. As he drew attention to the anorith again, she didn't notice him leering, or even him growling, because she was left staring at her trainer--trainers?--who were...what were they doing? The bark startled her a little with its suddenness, and the fact that he seemed startled too made her blink at him. She then wagged her tail a little bit; he was sort of cute, in a weird way. Maybe Vanessa and Viola would let her keep him?
She nudged him slightly again. "<I'll be right back,>" she said, gently, before she turned, put on a determined expression again, and charged right toward the anorith Vanessa and Viola were wrestling with, teeth bared and a growl rumbling in her chest that increased in volume the closer she got.
Vanessa and Viola are trying to grab the Anorith's wrists and switch to pinning her with their knee instead of their shoulder so she can't attack their face anymore. Bushy Tail used Growl on Anorith!

The Anorith flailed for a little more up until her claw was seized effectively keeping her from retaliating for now at least, and as they shifted and effectively pinned her shoulder with their knee and snagged her other claw, she found herself briefly rendered helpless. In a startled fit of confused fear, the Anorith quickly used Harden making her shell even that much harder to penetrate. If one couldn’t readily go on the offensive, go on the defensive! Or something like that. Honestly it was more fear driven than logic driven- especially since this human wasn’t like most she had come across who were quicker to try and get their pokemon to deal with her.
The Growl startled the Anorith to say the very least, causing the Rock Bug to literally jump- well as much as she could jump being restrained and all, her Attack dropping. Slowly even the residual twitching in a ditch effort to somehow get free stopped and the Anorith let out a disturbed cry of disdain. The Lillipup whom had been watching cringed a little at the sound- though whether it was in sympathy or simply from the awfulness of the sound not even he really knew. Ears flopped back on the Lillipup’s head and he took a step back and then forwards again rather indecisive on whether he wanted to run least the human decide to change her mind on whom she wanted to attack or …whatever else his short imagination could come up with.

Too bad this anorith had managed to come across someone who regularly killed their own dinner and so saw no problem with wrestling a pokemon in the process of doing such. In fact, with them now having ensured the lack of an ability to retaliate, this would normally be when they went for a killing blow. Of course, they weren't trying to kill this pokemon, just capture it, but having absolutely no experience in doing such left them just sitting there, trying to make sure it stayed put until they figured out what in Mi-aro they were actually going to do next.
You think we could just bash it with a pokeball now and that would work? Viola wondered.
They're supposed to work better on injured pokemon, and I think we're more hurt than it is, Vanessa pointed out.
Then do you think that maybe we could just carry it off to the Emissary by the claws? Viola suggested, only half-seriously.
That was around the moment the growling from Bushy made the anorith jump, causing them to grip harder and try to put more pressure down with their knee. This promptly reminded them of the eevee's existence. They looked at the fluffy little pokemon, who was prancing around the pinned feral pokemon while waiting for a command, and, despite the blood trickling down their cheek and arm, gave a little lopsided smile. The smile was wiped from their face quickly, however, when their prisoner gave that awful cry and they visibly cringed. They actually were a bit sympathetic. After all, even if the promise of a reward was a factor, they did want to catch the anorith for themselves, too.
Maybe we should let it go so Bushy Tail can fight it.
Or we could hold it down while she tackles it in the face a few times, so it can't hurt her.
I doubt that would be very good battle practice.
Viola sighed slightly, conceding the point. How about we try a pokeball, and then, if that doesn't work, let her go to town on it?
Sure.
"Hey, Bushy Tail," Viola spoke up, making the eevee perk up and look up at them. "Do you think you could grab an empty pokeball out of our pack?"
An eager nod and squeak of, "Vee!" sent her trotting over to where they'd been sitting before, and where their bags remained still. She grabbed the zipper of a bag with her teeth and pulled it open, then stuck her head in. Unfortunately, she'd gone for their berry bag by mistake, and sent one of the big, round poiup berries rolling out of it and in the general direction of the hesitant feral lillipup.
Realizing her error, Bushy quickly pulled her head out of the bag and trotted over to the backpack instead, out of which she quickly snatched a minimized pokeball in her jaws and trotted back over to her trainer and the restrained anorith. She sat down and dropped the red-and-white capsule at her paws, and they smiled. "Thank you."
The next motions were quick as they let go of one of the anorith's claws, snatched the offered the pokeball, expanded it, and then, rather than drop it, simply swung their hand down to try to bash it, activation-button first, into the top of the anorith's head.
Vanessa and Viola are using a pokeball on the Anorith. One of their sweet, juicy Pioup berries is rolling over to the Lillipup, and their Berry Bag is wide open.

The Poiup berry sent in his direction caused the Lillipup’s nose to twitch as he padded forwards closing the small distance between himself and the berry and staring down at it. That… smelled like food. Glancing at the Berry Bag and then at the Eevee headed back to her trainer and then the trainer restraining the Anorith, he briefly considered whether or not it would be alright to have one- before nipping at it briefly only to find the taste was heavenly. All too quickly small sharp teeth cut into the berry again as the Lillipup chowed down. Every few seconds, his eyes would raise gauging Vanessa and the Eevee that seemed to be more distracted with the Anorith at the moment than himself. Omnom.
The quick shift of the human’s hand was just enough time for one of the Anorith’s claws to twist a little and knick their right knee before the pokeball smacked in between her eyes and drew her in with red light. The ball hit the ground and rolled, tossed, and turned before the Anorith broke free quickly shaking her body and scuttling right upon Vanessa and Viola again aiming a Scratch for their arm. It seemed she didn’t appreciate being bashed by the pokeball or restrained by the human.
