~Strange sounds have been heard outside of New Pallet, The Ambassador urges trainers to be ready in case of an attack~
Summer is kicking in Port City! The temperature averages about 78°F (25°C) with a bit more rain than usual. Thunderstorms pop up every once in awhile, but overall, the sun is shining, the water's warm, and it looks like it'll be a great summer for the colonies.

Quietly Plotting...
FRIENDS
Liridon is open to the idea of making new friends, although his interpretation of this usually involves meeting new Pokemon. While he doesn't generally open up to new people right away, he is willing to make the effort if he thinks that someone seems worth it. He isn't likely to make lots of human friends very quickly, but he's adamantly loyal to the ones he does accrue - unless they betray him. Then, he'll plot. He generally tries to irritate those he in turn finds annoying, and doesn't always have patience for those who strike him as stupid. He doesn't hate them, he just doesn't like the idea of having to simplify too much. The kind of friends he'd be most interested in making would likely be those with similar interests, or those who could protect him while he goes off on one doing daft things for science. Tolerance for eccentricity definitely required.
ENEMIES
Liridon is quite stubborn, and his very name means 'free-willed' - following a Mewist family tradition. Anyone trying to prevent him from going his own way or bog him down with things he isn't allowed to do is likely to get on the wrong side of him. He also tends to think of himself as being quite intelligent, so a good way to rub him up the wrong way is making him look stupid. Not necessarily wrong, as that can be part of the scientific process, it's stupid he objects to. Treating Pokemon he has a rapport with or respect for ill would also get him feeling prickly, as he was raised considering Pokemon family. If you are his enemy, he will probably plot behind your back - or perhaps even to your face - and treat you with icy politeness and plenty of unecessarily complex vocabulary in place of ordinary words. If he is seething about somebody, he is likely to snub them, acknowledging them only when necessary - and then with carefully constructed expressions. At least, unless they've managed to make him lose his temper - which doesn't happen often. Then, he becomes much more expressive again, and may glare, hiss his words a little, and rant.
ROMANCE
Liridon hasn't actually considered this at all, but he'd consider it if it came up. Nobody he hasn't formed some kind of a bond with really has a chance, though. Any lady, gentleman or other must first befriend him - or become the kind of rival one forms a bond with.

So with Liridon and Jason, I could imagine that their relationship would probably begin as a payment-based relationship. Jason's a mercenary, so he could probably lead Liridon around wherever he wants to go, if Liridon needs help getting to such a place. Jason, of course, has to be paid first - or at least guaranteed payment after the job is finished - in order to do the job. Though, he wouldn't contradict anything Liridon says at first, since he'd be paying him to do a job and he wouldn't want to make him mad and not get paid.
I could imagine that maybe they become friends or something of the sort later on? While Jason isn't the brightest crayon in the box, I could imagine that they would be butting heads every so often once Jason spends more time with him and possibly realizes that Liridon won't kill him if he politely speaks his mind?.
These two would get along great, I feel. They are both researchers, enjoy knowledge, and exploring. I'm sure James would be happy to accompany Liridon out into the field every so often to study or find something, or share his research or findings. James also enjoys the company of Pokemon more than humans, so that is something they have in common, too. The only problem is that if James believes that Liridon is wrong about something, he won't be afraid to tell him. He can be a rather blunt person.
I can see that working out pretty well, I've had a look, and Jason seems like a likeable fellow. While it might take Liridon a little while to get used to him, I imagine they'd be able to form a rapport over time. Even if Jason isn't quite as intellectually-minded as Liridon, he doesn't seem to be a blundering buffoon or anything - his talents simply lie elsewhere. As to the butting heads, I can see that happening - particularly if Liridon wants to do something weird in the name of science, and Jason doesn't think it's safe. I think Liridon would actually enjoy bantering over whether to do something, so long as nobody made it seem as though they were forbidding it. Pointed advice, yes, orders - nope.
As for James, they do seem to have a lot in common, and I think that Liridon would see that - once he got over his initial unease over that hair. He doesn't really like red all that much, but it's not a crippling phobia or anything. I can see them both immersing themselves into a project of some sort and possibly needing to be reminded that the rest of the world is, in fact, still there. Again, I'd say Liridon would enjoy debating with this person, particularly if James thought that he saw something in a different light. Liridon would want to know more, though he'd be disappointed if it turned out that he'd been mistaken about something.
Are both of these people in Port City, or are they elsewhere? It would be interesting for them to meet. Although, I wonder how much it would cost Liridon to have Jason's help - he's not got much coin right now.

Technically, James is still getting his starter, but Jason is open anytime. As for payment - Jason is nice enough that he'd accept payment at the end of the job, which would give you enough time to get coins from posting; his usual fee for going somewhere with someone is 25-30 coin, with an added 5 to 10 if the place is more dangerous than already settled or found places, or just more unsafe than usual.

Hmm, Liridon's still waiting for Quercus the Quirky, so he's no better off than James yet. I want to do something with the Spinarak event, but Liridon'd need to get there first - I don't yet have a plan for what to do on the journey, and the only plan I yet have for the spiders is... sketchy in places. This is the current plan: Adventure! -> Seek out Mutant Spinarak and/or their silken leavings -> Collect samples (possibly capture one?) -> SCIENCE! I'm not yet sure how or when I'd go about involving Jason, but I know I want to RP with him at some point. I gotta go get some sleep now, though.

I can see Alistair having somewhat conflicting views about Liridon. On the one hand, Alistair is something of a pure intellectual who would not be able to reconcile the concept of someone who is religious and scientific. He would certainly look down on Liridon for his beliefs. If Alistair was forced to get to know Liridon, and see that he was a scientific mind like himself it might force him to reevaluate things that he thought he knew. Would you be interested in interacting with someone like that?
I just realized that Alistair doesn't get along with many people right off the bat.

Hmm, interesting... For Liridon, the pursuit of new knowledge and understanding - a key part of science - is also a key part of his faith, so there's overlap there. For his part, he'd be a little bemused by someone who had no room for even the possibility of some of the things he believes in - particularly given the Arceus-induced Legend Portal incident. He'd really not enjoy feeling looked down on for something that has shaped his desire to do science, even in part, but as I've said of character interactions involving another Researcher, he'd probably enjoy debating things with someone. I wonder whether there'd be a different reaction from Alistair depending on which facet of Liridon he got to know of first? I also wonder what kind of circumstance might pull them together in a situation where they'd have to get to know one another - perhaps a scenario in which they'd be analysing things relating to the Mutant Spinarak?

Yes, that could work, depending on how our event threads go. I know that Alistair is going to try to catch one since it is mutated. He would be interested to see how it interacted with another caught swarm, see if it still had a swarm mentality, and so forth. Could turn into something of a joint taming thread. Even if none are caught, they could compare notes and such. Fun interactions either way.

Sounds quite interesting to me - mine is also likely to try catching one (possibly the one spawned with the derpiest face, if there is no level difference) in the hopes of finding out more. The swarm mentality thing is quite interesting - Liridon would be trying to get samples of things like their webbing in order to see whether it was different to normal webbing, but he'd also be interested in figuring out their behaviour. If he sees them before they see him, he'd probably watch them for a while. Even if neither of us catches one, we could still end up with something to study - like samples and behavioural notes. Considering that one of our characters has Whisperer and the other has Tamer, do you think working together to analyse any caught Spinarak (and get them to behave while being studied) would count towards those skills?
