Dinaer Auvryndar
23 | Male | Homosexual |
Mercenary | Enforcer | Mr. R |
appearance
Dinaer is certainly cut out for life in Mi-aro. He's lean, but obviously muscular, owing to a life spent surviving and training. Muscles aside, he's also got a fair share of scars, from pokemon and people alike. His skin is a dark tan, from both time outside and heritage alike. Din tends to stand and move... rather aggressively, if one's honest. He takes an aggressive stance when standing, legs a shoulder width apart, arms usually crossed. When walking, Din tends to stride, to stalk, like some PokeEarthen predator, a liepard hunting prey in tall grasses. Dangerous, yes, and obviously so... But also beautiful, in that feral and fearsome way.
Din has more of a square jaw, and sharp, bright eyes, a nearly luminous amber. They're usually narrowed, though, lips drawn back in a sneer. His hair is blue-black, thin and stick straight. Right now it's choppy, hanging around his jawline, but if he gets the chance Din plans to grow it out longer. He's only got one scar on his face, thankfully, crossing over his lower lip in a thin line, like something (or someone) bit at him. He doesn't talk about it, though, so how it came to be is a mystery. Din's ears are pierced, and he prefers simple silver studs to anything else.
Aside from the scar on his lip, most of the others are on his back and arms. A few are obviously from angry pokemon, claw and bite marks. But some aren't, some slashes from daggers, and some that look oddly like burn marks. Thankfully, very few of them can be seen when he's got his shirt on, so he doesn't get many questions about it.

clothing
everyday Dinaer's everyday wear is more practical than anything else. Jeans, black boots, a dark shirt. Nothing complicated, really, but it gets the job done, and it doesn't show stains much at all. His jeans are a simple dark wash, and his boots are usually worn over the pants, coming halfway up his calves. They seem to be used for not just protection, but also intimidation. When it gets cool, Din has... a black leather jacket. He doesn't dress very creatively. | formal Formal what now? |
backpack
Does this man have anything that's not black? Possibly, but it's certainly not his bag. This over-the-shoulder bag is big enough for whatever it is he needs to carry... and black. Fitting. The main section is used for clothes, necessities, and bigger supplies. The side pouches are used for things that would get crushed or destroyed in the main pouch, or quick-access things he doesn't want to spend ten minutes rifling for.
personality
Dinaer is not fun to be around. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about that. He is, at his core, un-fun. He's irritable, and grumpy, and cranky, like he's spent every day of his life waking up on the wrong side of the bed. That's a trait he picked up from his father, but unlike the elder, Din has nothing to mask it. If you talk to him, or bump into him, or even look at Din the wrong way, sometimes, you're going to get a full-force blast of irritability. He's rude, and snappish, often saying things just for the purpose of being mean.
Dinaer also hates being told what to do- Absolutely abhores it. So, Arceus help you if you try to ask him to do anything. If you don't hold any power over him, he will not hesitate to let you know. And then probably go and do the exact opposite of whatever it was you asked. Because he can. And you can't stop him.
Dinaer does, contrary to popular belief, have a heart and soul. He cares about his father, though he does recognize how little the man has done for him. He sends money over to the house, every once in a while, and does what he can to check in on Val now and again. Just to make sure he's still alive. Dinaer also really, really likes cats. If he has food, he will stop for every cat-like pokemon he sees, and will feed it, and usually attempt to pet it if the creature seems comfortable. He seems to get along better with these cats then he does most people.
Din's fond of spicy foods, and prefers meat and bread to anything else. Some people are opposed to eating pokemon for whatever reasons, and that's fine by him. He'll just not offer you any of his roasted pidgey. Not that he would have offered you some anyway.
Dinaer is incredibly loyal- Under some stipulations. He has to like you, which is arguably the hardest part of the entire deal. But you also have to deserve it. His dad? Doesn't deserve it (he says, but Din still visits home on a regular basis, so it's entirely possible Din isn't as ruthless and cold-hearted as he makes himself out to be). His boss? Certainly doesn't deserve it, and they both know that he'll turn on her the instant he is capable. But, if you're good at heart, and looking out for him... and a friend? He'll protect you with his life.

the backstory
Dinaer's upbringing wasn't exactly ideal. Okay, it pretty much sucked. Mom split soon after he was born, and Val (oh, sorry, "Dad") wasn't much help even before then. He spent most of his time in the house, lamenting his ex-wife or the people left behind wherever or... Y'know, Din wasn't really sure. Still isn't. All he knows is Val spent his time drinking instead of being a proper dad. Sure was lucky that stupid Luxray still cared for him, bringing him food and reminding him to do basic functions, like shower and sleep. Din put up for it, for a bit, but he'd often flee outside, finding even the still-in-progress "city" to the atmosphere inside.
He was ten, when she caught him, trying to steal fruits from a half-set-up shop. She asked what he was doing, and Din bitterly replied that it was none of her buisness. It eventually came out that he had no money for food- He was a child, and Val was too busy being drunk to work. Din wasn't sure where they had the money for booze (savings? a secret job?) but it sure wasn't going to anything productive. She was sympathetic, and offered him a job. Just running papers and packages, nothing too hard- But important work for a ten year old. He wasn't sure, but agreed, and introduced himself as Dinaer. She smiled, and said her name was Habreena.
All he had to do was take papers from her, to shops, or pick up packages and bring them to her. It was easy, and for the first time Dinaer took pride in something he was doing. She paid him as soon as he delivered, and he felt a sense of power. Maybe, if Val had noticed, he would have pulled Dinaer away then, started focusing on his child more. But Val didn't and Dinaer didn't realize what he was getting himself into, eagerly asking for more work. Habreena was all too willing- After all, she explained, her job was to better this world they had found.
She was working for Mr. R, a name Din didn't know, but there was mystery and awe in her voice, and he was enthralled. Mr. R planned to better Port City, and all the places they founded. Habreena worked for him, and her job was to clear away the dirty and ugly parts, and help everyone else see their vision. Some people, she said, didn't understand, and still held old grudges. They got in Mr. R's way (in the way of progress, she enforced), and that wasn't good at all. Dinaer was obviously sympathetic, and asked how he could help.
Things.... snowballed. By the time he realized, he'd already signed a contract to work for her (standard policy, she had assured him), and he wasn't running "supplies" back and forth, but collecting debts, "reclaiming" stolen goods, seeking out opposers in the dark of night, and "helping" them see the error of their ways. All this "betterment of the city" stuff Habreena had been feeding him was nothing. All he was doing was furthering her schemes.
Habreena had always said that her "good" employees got pokemon, and that he would get one, if he really tried hard and did well enough. Tauros-sh- ah, he knew well enough why she didn't give him one. She'd trained him too well. Habreena had brought in the little, clueless Meowth, and now had a collared Persian. He already had fangs- She wasn't soon about to give him any more.
One day, he'd realize he'd outgrown his chain. And he'd bite back.
