~ SERAPHINA ~
Jan 1, Year 1, Afternoon
So that went pretty well. Sera was just getting her new chips added to her X-Gear, and when she was satisfied that that was working, she brought out her new friends.
"Iggly?" "Chika?" Both Pokemon seemed pretty deadpan, only a tiny hint of curiosity at why there were out.
"Well, first of all, meet your new teammate!" she told them both. "Chikorita, Igglybuff. Igglybuff, Chikorita." She thought a moment. "Actually, you guys have names?" The Pokemon looked to each other, then to Sera, each motioning no. "Fair enough. I'm sure you'll come into some eventually." She didn't really believe in assigning names without good reason. Maybe if she hatched a Pokemon herself, but she didn't feel it was her place to give adolescents or adults names. ...Well, technically Igglybuff was a Baby, but different sort of baby.
Playing around with her X-Gear a bit more, she explained, "So good news! We're going to take our first team picture, all right?" Yes, she understood the Photo Chip was more intended for gathering research. No, she didn't especially care. If there was a single thing she missed about their old planet, it was the amount of frivolty the world had held. Sure, that had ultimately contributed to its destruction, but that wasn't a foregone conclusion, just a result of too many people and not enough moderation. In their old estate/sanctuary, there had been so many books and paintings and decorative items of all sorts all over. On rare occasion as a distraction from their plight they'd hold little balls and get the whole family (all the aunts and uncles and great-aunts and great-uncles and cousins and second-cousins) and the few like-family friends that lived there all together in the ballroom and act like they were still high society. It was all wonderful and there was never any point to it but to be pretty or fancy or feel nice.
Sera more than understood the way things were now, and she would not even consider giving up this gorgeous vibrant world for the husk of a planet she'd come from even if the portal wasn't one-way. But she did often wish she'd been able to bring more just-for-fun things with her. Her most treasured collection of fairy tales, a single if very large book, was the bulk of what she had left, and she'd managed to use savings from various jobs worked around Port Town in her teen years to make some lovely dresses (the only reason she hadn't brought any through aside from space issues was that she knew she'd grow out of them soon enough). At any rate, she'd get a Printer Chip soon enough, and thought making a scrapbook of her journey would be an excellent blend of fun-and-frivolous and actually useful, as it would help her remember how she started and keep track of when and how she and her team had progressed.
As she'd been thinking of all this, she'd been finding a nice spot next to a large tree that still had about a third of its leaves even in January, and with a stone cobbling curb around it. Once she and the Pokemon were situated, she took a few selfies, then had them stay still while she found the closest passerby to ask to take a few more pictures from better distances and angles. Of course, she had her Pokemon pose differently with her in each.
Both of them, admittedly, found this exercise a little ridiculous, but Sera assured them it was important. Having been trained to be good starter Pokemon, they'd rolled their eyes in the start, but complied. By the end of it, the amount of fun their trainer was having with it became a little infectious, and when she showed them the digital images on the X-Gear after thanking the stranger, they decided maybe it might not be so bad having a little photo shoot now and then.
When all that was done, Sera checked the time and realized it was getting close to time for her match with Morgan. Returning her Pokemon, she hurried to the middle of town, and when she found her cousin had not yet arrived, she found a seat and decided to take the strings she'd bought from her bag. Apparently the shopkeep had been fresh out of premade rope, but a little practice in making survival equipment didn't sound too terrible. Thus, she started working on braiding them together while she waited. It was pretty thin- more twine than rope- but it seemed sturdy and usable, and Sera was pretty satisfied with it so far.
There. That seemed right around a foot of it done. Only 99 more to go!
