~ SERAPHINA ~ Sera watched the exchanges carefully, taking mental notes. She may just have caught it at a bad time, and calming Oshawott was pretty impressive, but her first impression of Turtwig was that it was pretty lazy. Torchic was cute, but didn't seem particularly remarkable in any ways, good or bad. Oshawott seemed like it had a lot of potential, but it would need to curb that temper first. At any rate, it would be more useful as a Samurott than right now.
Chikorita's scrupulous nature struck a positive chord, though it could potentially mean being judged critically. Chespin had for a moment seemed a doormat, but quickly redeemed itself. It seemed he cared greatly about the effect he had on others, but wasn't willing to just sit and take undue criticism, and that she liked.
At their question, she smiled. "Straight to the point, I see." She half-laughed softly. "I guess that's to be expected in your circumstances."
Looking them all over once more, her hand made an L-shape and moved to her face thoughtfully. Yes, she still liked her initial judgement. "Either Chespin or Chikorita..." She thought of how to decide further. "I don't suppose either of you are friends with a no-nonsense Igglybuff? Shy of that, how do you feel about doing a lot of battling?"

Upon their names being announced Chikorita gave the Chespin a rather competitive, but friendly, look. The rodent forced a smile then turned back to Sera with a determined and focused face. Chikorita smirked, it thought it had downsized its opponent perfectly. A spark lit in the small dinosaurian's eyes as she looked up on Sera with laud. Both of the grass Pokemon were eager to be chosen. Chespin had the heart of an explorer, and Chikorita had the fire of passion, it just wanted to get stronger. The leaf Pokemon was known for picking fights out in the back when they were released to play and exercise. Not that it was particularly bullying an of the other Pokemon, the small green dinosaur just felt the need to constantly test its strength, and it wasn't near where it wanted to be. This need for power arose because a little run-in with Oak's first feral Chikorita. Although he stood at roughly the same height as the Domestic Pokemon, his leaf was incredibly larger and split into three separate tips. His necklace of buds had bloomed into an odd necklace of tiny, thorned vines. Not to mention that his color was so vivid, especially in his leaf. The Feral Pokemon, used to having to fight for his dominance, spotted the other Chikorita his first day there. It was just casually eating its food when the shadow of the Feral loomed over it. "Kori (Move)," he demanded of the smaller creature. Being the stubborn Pokemon that it was, it refused and stood its ground. Unfortunately, this ended up in a painful defeat as well as a tiny scar across one of its buds, needless to say the professor decided that Ferals would no longer go out at the same time as the Domestics. The Chikorita refused to go out like that though, it trained itself against the others so it would never have to face that humiliation again.
Now Chespin on the other hand was an explorer. It started out innocently enough. The professor would let them out they'd go play, yadda, yadda, but then one day, the grass Pokemon spotted a flash of color in the distance, it ran to the edge of the fence and scoped it out, but nothing was there. It felt terribly confused. Was there actually more out there? To be fair, it had spent its entire life on with Oak. Sure it heard stories of the outside, but it had to see it for itself. The next day the same flash appeared, but this time, Chespin was going to find out what it was. It slowly sneaked up to the fence and cautiously watched for witnesses, when it was in the clear, it dug under the fence and ran off into the brush. With a squeak here and there it began its quest to find the mystical color, searching under bushes, in low holes on the trees, but nada. It spent the entire day searching and found absolutely nothing, with the exception of a tasty-looking flower that made him feel magical for a little bit, but that had already worn off. The hio was on its way down and Chespin knew it was time to head back. Defeated, it began the trek back home. When it reached the halfway point, it heard a noise. Its spiky ears shot up as the sound came again. The Pokemon didn't give it a second thought, it flew back to the fence as fast it possibly could. Then Chespin found it, the color. It was a beautiful bright purple with a touch of green, but unfortunately, it was also a rather large Aerodactyl. Chespin ran for its life but wasn't quite fast enough, the one-horned Pokemon swooped down and swiped the Pokemon up with its enormous claws. Was this it? The end? No, Chespin refused to go out like this. Right as they were approached the lab, Chespin opened it mouth as wide as it possibly could and penetrated the pteranodon's skin foot with its huge tooth. A shriek of pain escaped the creature and it released Chespin, from a few hundred feet in the sky. Chespin wailed in fear, then blacked out as soon as its head hit the ground. Fortunately, its tough shell saved it from fatal injury, although it does have a slight crack now. The Pokemon was very secretive about its adventure, it had never felt such a rush before, and it had dreamed of going on many more just like it ever since.
Both Pokemon raised an eyebrow at the Igglybuff question. They had no knowledge of such a Pokemon. The question however raised a fire. "Chika!" the leaf Pokemon shouted. It's tone was filled with passion and determination. Chespin held its paws behind its back and rocked back and forth on its feet. It turned its head away from Sera but showed enough of its face. It had on a deceivingly innocent smile. Chespin gave a final wink to Sera to let her know he was all for it.

~ SERAPHINA ~ Hmmmmm. They were both so appealing. For a moment, Sera even thought of putting back the Igglybuff, but aside from having really liked her she remembered that she could only have one 'classic' starter anyway.
She couldn't nearly get their full histories, but with their responses she got some vague ideas. For Chespin a wanderlust, and Chikorita a drive to prove herself. Both were exceedingly good qualities.
In the end, however, she found she did have a favorite. The Chespin's coy attitude made it an even closer call, but for a Pokemon whose primary goal was exploring, she questioned how well he'd do if/when he ever felt he'd seen 'enough', or if she did end up settling down into a more static position later down the road. Meanwhile, with strength as the end goal, she felt it was less likely that the Chikorita would ever be satisfied-- and if she was, the worst thing Sera had to look forward to was a very strong Pokemon. Not to mention, although that was a close match too, she liked stubborn even more than coy.
Nodding at Chikorita, she announced, "Yeah. You're the one." Looking to the professor, she smiled, "I'll take her." She got the PokeBall from him, and got it and Igglybuff's and her new gear all nicely situated in her bag, then put her cloak back on properly.
As she was turning to leave, however, she turned back to the professor. "Oh hey, before I go.." Glancing around as if suspicious, she moved a little closer and motioned for him to lean down, as if she needed to whisper in his ear.

Oak gulped and gingerly leaned toward Sera.

~ SERAPHINA ~ Sera lingered slightly longer than necessary, building suspense about what her secret could possibly be in order to need to be kept from even the risk of a passing lab assistant. The suspense was soon broken, however, as the tip of her tongue touched his earlobe about a half-second before her teeth encased it. It was just a very quick nip, and without waiting to watch the full reaction she giggled and turned to head down the hall.
As she opened the door to leave, she called over her shoulder, "I'll call you~" Her Holo Chip should have his number pre-registered, after all. Oh, this was going to be fun.

Oak cried out with a slightly embarrassing squealy-type-noise. What? Did she really just? The man held his ear, his mouth fell wide open, and his countenance was obvious distress and discomfort. Quercus stared at Sera as she scuttled toward the door. As she made her last statement, the good professor made a sound that resembled a held in hiccup. It was more or less a stifled scream. His eyes shifted quickly around the laboratory. He then began to hustle to the back of the lab while ripped his X-gear off and held it in sky, "Somebody burn this STAT!"
As Oak exited, the Chespin jumped on the nearby desk, stuffed something in its mouth then ran over to Sera. It reached its paws into its chipmunk-like cheeks and pulled out 6 empty pokeballs. The little rodent held the items up to Sera and smiled in admiration.

It was a new year, and a new beginning... and an old, hackneyed day to do something like this. Morgan grimaced to herself as she handed in her application--there were so many forms there, she felt like it might have been easier to just tell them her life story and be done with it. The attendant (Morgan recognized her, but didn't know if the feeling was mutual) directed her down the hallway, giving directions first to the Ambassador's office in this building and later to the good Professor's, further down the hall.
It wasn't much of a choice, really. Morgan could go and see Ambassador Nguyen, the closest thing to the leader of Port Town, the larger of the two settlements and, rather more importantly, the entire rest of humanity. She also could turn around and deck her father in the face. The latter seemed rather more likely, honestly, even if Morgan could understand that she needed to get on her own two feet to support herself, and that sooner was better than later...
Morgan nearly ran into someone as she was going down the hall--not surprising given her feetward-stare and grumbling inner monologue. With a jolt, she took a few quick steps backward and started, "I'm so sorry, miss, I--" and suddenly stopped herself.
With a squint and a slight turn of her head, she asked somewhat hesitantly, "...Sera?"

~ SERAPHINA ~ Sera had rolled her eyes profusely at the professor. "Overreaction much.." she mumbled, but found herself chuckling slightly. She highly doubted he would actually cut off all other trainers from contact with him or go to the trouble of hunting every last one down except her to give them a new means of communication. But she did make note to maybe tone it down in the future. Just a little, mind you, but still toning down.
When the Chespin made his offer, she smiled and thanked him, leaning down to pet him on the head when she took the gift. "At least someone is agreeable on my birthday," she commented in a tone that bordered on teasing. Actually the professor was the first person not to be entirely pleasant today, and that was ten thousand percent her own fault, but a little touch of delusion made life more fun.
As she walked out the door, she looked back over her shoulder and winked at the Chespin one last time, still a bit disappointed she couldn't take him but considering him a pretty cool guy all the same. When she looked back the way she was going, she found herself suddenly inches away from another person without nearly enough time to correct before collision. "Ohmigosh I--" she stammered in unison with the other girl's apologizing, until she really took in her face.
"...Sera?" came the other girl's words.
This elicited a small 'what are the odds' laugh. "Morgan??" After a moment to recover from the surprise, however, her eyes narrowed and a wide grin formed. A momentary glance confirmed there was no one else in the immediate hall before her eyes set back on her cousin. Her voice stayed a bit quieted, but not overly so. "Sup, loser?"

Riiight... Morgan's mouth spread into a grin, but it didn't quite reach her eyes, nor did she quite suppress a small huff. When she spoke, "How nice to see you again," the words were a bit too emphasized and too well-enunciated. "I'm afraid I can't chat about old times, though." While keeping up the condescending tone of voice, Morgan's lifted and knitted into an overwrought expression. "I'm on my way to an appointment, and I really oughtn't be late." Morgan raised a hand in a wave and a refresh of the plastic smile, and attempted to move past her cousin down the hallway.

~ SERAPHINA ~ Sera blocked the path. "Appointment?" she asked, genuinely curious for a moment. A thought hit her, and after a quick survey for any signs of PokeBalls on her person, she laughed. "Don't tell me you're only just now getting your Pokemon! And how old are you now?" The question in itself was an insult, seeing as Morgan's birthday was yesterday..
The battle of haughty expressions continuing, Sera gave a non-chalant shrug. "Well it seems you're a bit late to the party as usual. I already got the best starters."
