The air was beginning to turn cool and crisp, as the sun neared the horizon. It looked like Gwendolyn's anorith-filled first day of being a mercenary, was drawing to a close. After spending the last hour sweeping the town and finding no more swarming anorith, she was certain that the last of them must have been rounded up already. It was really a relief to be done. Dealing with nothing but anorith after anorith was a tedious endeavor. Of course though, the job wasn't truly done. She had yet to head for the emissary to claim her reward for her more recent anorith captures. With it being so late in the day though, and the fact that her legs were growing tired from walking around town all day, she decided it could wait until tomorrow morning. For now, she intended to head straight back to the inn and give herself some rest. Gwen entered the inn, and headed towards the front counter where a middle-aged woman was tending. After waiting in line for a few other trainers with similar requests, she reached the front. "I'd like to book a room please." She said, offering the woman a tired smile. "If there are any completely vacant rooms, that would be great." She added wearily, though she was a bit doubtful of the chances. The woman frowned slightly and shook her head, though a sympathetic expression soon fell across her face. "Sorry miss, we're always quite busy." She said gently before opening up a drawer and searching through a tray of keys before picking out a specific one. "I can put you in with Cathy though. She's a quiet girl, she shouldn't give you much trouble. That's room 101b. Up the stairs to the second floor and first door on your right." She said, handing Gwen the key. "Understandable" Gwen said, accepting the key and proceeding toward the stairwell and up towards her room, though not before grabbing a newspaper off a pile on the counter. Once she reached the door to her room, she knocked before turning her key and opening it. "'lo there." She muttered as she entered. Two bunk beds took up the majority of space in the relatively small room. Looking up, she could see a young brunette girl laying on her belly, reading a book that was laid across her pillow, while her dedenne slept in a tight ball against the side of her pillow. The girl looked up. "Hi there. Long day?" She greeted Gwen in a cheery, though slightly hushed voice. "Long and bug filled. Name's Gwen." Gwen introduced herself, deciding on the bunk directly below Cathy. She set her bag on the bed between the wall and her pillow, and for a moment, she just sat there bored. She was tired yes, but it wasn't really late enough in the evening to consider going to bed. Her gaze then fell on the poke balls clipped to her shoulder bag, and then to the newspapers she had brought up. Her anorith did need to be worked with, to try and learn english so they could properly understand each other. On one hand, reading seemed like a good idea. On the other, a newspaper wasn't really good beginner reading material. Sighing, she flipped through the pages, wondering if it would even be worth trying. "Care if I read aloud to my pokemon?" Gwen asked her roommate. "Just so long as you don't talk too loud. Cheezie is snoozing." Cathy responded pleasantly before going back to her own reading. "Thanks." Gwen said curtly, before reaching for the poke ball for Anorith 5. A few worst case scenerios ran through her head in regards to what would happen when she released the pokemon inside. Worst case scenerio would be that it decided to be angry and take it out on the furniture, or Cathy and her pokemon. Still, it was a thoroughly scared anorith, and in the enclosed room, it probably would just hide somewhere. Clicking the button, she released the Anorith on the bed across from her own. "Hello there. Thought you could use some time out of your ball." Gwen said. Of course, it didn't understand a lick of what she said, and at first it looked at her cautiously and semi-expectantly. "No food. Sorry." She said more simply. "No food." Once the Anorith realized there was nothing being offered, it quickly jumped to the floor and scuttled under the bed. Gwen glanced over the edge of her bed. "Well I suppose you could listen from there." Gwen said, as she pulled off her jacket and tucked it in the same corner with her bag before settling herself on the bed. She flipped through the pages a bit before settling on an article announcing the start of the trainer program. "The eagerly awaited start of the trainer program run through the joint efforts of both the pokemon lab and emissary is officially underway. People are swarming in to get their first..." Gwen continued to read on through the article, being slow and deliberate with each word, while also making sure to keep her voice down. Gwen was still a bit doubtful about how effective this would be, but if anything, perhaps it would help for it to get used to hearing her voice at least. Once one article was read through, Gwen switched to another, not really bothering to be choosy about the topic. Throughout the time spent, she paused every once in a while to listen for what Anorith might be doing under there, but it remained quiet. After five or six articles were read through though, she began to notice the anorith making a soft crooning noise, and she leaned over the bed to discover the anorith had fallen asleep. That seems positive. She thought as she pulled herself backup onto the bed. Setting the newspaper on the bed across from her, she carefully shifted herself under her blankets, and quickly drifted off. ----------- Gwen read Anorith to sleep! +TP? | |
