Valerie Turner
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Profession: Mercenary
Occupation: n/a
Appearance: Valerie is of average height, about 5'6", and wears her dark-chocolate hair up in a ponytail most of the time to keep it out of her face. She has olive skin and big green eyes and is a little on the heavy side, though she looks 'solid' rather than 'fat'. She wears no makeup but has a cute, round face with a somewhat scrunchy-looking nose. Her cheeks, arms, and upper chest are dotted with dark freckles. Though it usually ends up chipped and worn away, Valerie likes to paint her fingernails with some polish her mother kept when she went through the Portal.
Everyday Clothes: A pink and white horizontally-striped tank-top with a pair of black sweat-pants that are a bit worn around the bottoms.
Pack: A generic drawstring pack with a picture of a Skitty printed on its face. It is a bit dusty, but not disgustingly so.
Personality: Generally, Valerie could be considered to be 'nice', though that really depends on who you are and what your relationship to her is. She can be a bit judgmental of people she doesn't know, and can be snarky to people she doesn't like or that annoy her, but she adores cute Pokemon. Though she is a little afraid of some of the more ferocious-looking Ferals, she is brave and will stand her ground when trying to capture one, so long as it doesn't charge her. She panics when things are going wrong, but is generally fairly calm and collected, even oblivious to things going on around her. She gets flustered when she is angry or upset and is usually unable to do much of anything until she has calmed down, which can take some time.
Likes: Sweets, vegetables, cute and/or small Pokemon, small children, pretty colors, pretty clothes
Dislikes: Salty foods, red meats, big scary Pokemon, arrogance and smugness, muddy colors, storms
Backstory: Valerie's parents went along from Earth to Mi-aro as soon as they heard about the Portal. They settled in quickly and, about ten years later, Valerie came along. Little Valerie was an inquisitive child, but she didn't know much about Pokemon or the world that her parents came from until she was a little older. She had a stuffed Buneary that she called Bubba, and she carried him everywhere she went until she was 12. That was the year her baby brother was born, and she was overjoyed and jealous all at once.
Not long after her baby brother was born, that childish magic the world seems to have evaporated, and Valerie decided that she was bored. There was nothing to do in their settlement on Mi-aro, her parents were quiet and reserved and her little brother grew attached to the plush lapine she had carried everywhere, so she didn't even have that most of the time. It was maddening. Valerie listened to some others her age, and they talked about the different things people were going out and doing, the work of Researchers and Mercenaries and others. She began to do research into the subjects, just hoping for something to do aside from wandering around town.
She discovered that she was decent at alchemy after she looked into that, and she had a strong eye for detail. Her parents brought her a tame Pokemon by her request and she learned how to take care of it in preparation for a future in which she was a trainer of some sort with Pokemon of her own. As her little brother grew in size, Valerie grew in intelligence, but not in social matters. She was still fairly awkward socially, but she managed. Eventually, she sat her parents down and told them that she wanted to go off and do Mercenary work, maybe discover new Pokemon and new places, and they said she could go if she promised to visit them again someday. She prepared herself to go, taking the only easily manageable bag they could provide for her with very few supplies, knowing that the laboratory would give her the rest. Of course, she brought the nail polish her mother had given her, since she knew it wouldn't stay on by itself very well out in the wilderness.
