HECTOR VOLTRIX
Age: 48
Gender: Male
Orientation: Heterosexual
Profession: Researcher
Occupation: Electrician/Inventor
Appearance:
Hector has a rather gruff looking appearance, He's progressing through the later half of his middle age years and it shows. He's no spry young sapling, that's for sure. He's a fairly short man, standing at just 5' 3" and weighing in at around 139 lbs. His got a fairly stocky build though, and does have some noticeable muscle to him, and he could deliver a good punch if he needed to. Don't expect him to run too fast though, because he can't run to save his life.
Skin wise, he's got a light yellowish skin tone to him, and a fair bit of body hair. His face is beginning to wrinkle a bit, and he often has bags under his eyes. He's got dark green eyes, though he has very poor vision and is legally blind without the large round glasses he wears on a constant basis. He has a shaggy mop of blonde hair and a stubble covered chin with streaks of white running through both.
Personal Hygiene isn't something he's ever really paid much attention to. His entire body is usually covered in a layer of dirt and grit that makes his entire skin look a shade darker than it really is, and he does have a certain... stink about him. He's also missing a few teeth, and it would not be recommended to catch a whiff of his breath. He more often than not wouldn't even remember the last time he showered if you asked him.
Everyday Clothes:
Hector can usually be found wearing jean coveralls, with a utility belt full of various tools and gadgets. He has a few different colored pairs, though it's uncertain if he has multiples of the same color or not because he's usually seen wearing the same color for weeks at a time. Aside from that, he's also got a pair of heavy work boots, a watch on one wrist, and a remote device on his other wrist which controls the robotic arm housed in his backpack.
Formal Garbs:
Hector isn't a fan of formal wear or formal anything for that matter. If he had his way, he probably wouldn't bother wearing anything different from what he's usually seen wearing. Alas though, if you go to some big shin dig, gods curse you if you don't wear something decent. So for whatever occasion he does have one ratty looking maroon tux with a very tacky looking orange bow tie. He thinks he looks idiotic in it.
Pack:
He has a heavy looking backpack which houses an extendable robotic arm controlled by a remote strapped to his wrist.
Personality:
First thing one could probably get from him, is that he's a very surly guy, and a bit loud too. Give him a chance, he'd probably rant your ear off about anything, including topics that might not even have anything to do with anything you brought up to him in the first place. He's not easily impressed and if you tell him all your big goals and dreams, he'll probably just tell you to get back to him when you actually succeed. Yeah, he's a real ray of sunshine. Not.
He's not really even that friendly toward his pokemon. He might not berate them as much as he does to other people, but he usually just has them around to assist him with his work and otherwise lets them do what all. Except his trubbish though, he'll take whatever chance he gets to tell him he's a lousy creature who needs to get lost, though that may have more to do with the trubbish not even technically being his. The thing just follows him around and won't leave him alone!
For what Hector lacks in people skills and proper hygiene however, he has a very strong work ethic. He's at his happiest when he's doing his job. He's a very hard worker, and he tends to get a lot of work done in a short space of time. He works so quickly, people swear he teleports from place to place, though that's probably more because everyone knows he can't run worth anything.
Though most people at a glance wouldn't realize it if nobody told them, this gruff looking electrician isn't just some minimum wage city worker. Behind that surly, grit covered mug is a genius brain that has run in his family for generations. He's a lot smarter than most people give him credit for, with his most notable achievement being his discovery of how to harness the legend portal portal's energy to bring a reliable source of power back to humanity.
Truth is, he's a brilliant inventor, and his house is full of various inventions and works in progress. Not that he is too keen on letting anybody come in and gawk at it all. He prefers to keep his creative business private until it's a hundred percent ready to be unleashed on the world. The only people he does allow into his house are usually his assistants, important clients, or just important people altogether. Not that he gets a regular stream of would be visitors anyway.
Though he isn't often recognized for his work as he should, he prefers it that way. The last thing he needs is for everybody to point and gawk at him like some big darn celebrity type. As far as he cares, the public's ignorance is his bliss.
Likes: Inventing, Working, Ranting, Being obscure, Food
Dislikes: Nosy people, Showering, Formal events, Being criticised, Crowds
Backstory:
Hector was originally born in Kalos, long before the legend portal was opened. His entire family were genius types, and so was he for that matter. He was extremely curious young kid, always trying to figure things out. He more often than not could be found fiddling with and taking a part his toys, more often than he could be seen actually playing with them.
Most of his family were considered geniuses actually. Many used their intellect for different things, but they all still had their high IQs in common. As for family history, Hector is the Great-Grandson of Bonnie, and Great-Grandnephew of Clemont, the boy genius who designed and built Lumiose Tower and ran the gym within it.
As Hector grew up, his intellectual capabilities continued to surpass expectations by leaps and bounds. At the same time though, he became more and more engrossed in his work, that a lot of things, including personal hygiene, had become less important. Instead he just kept working at project after project, while his social life more or less went down the drain.
Over the course of his childhood, he'd acquired numerous pokemon, though some were less tolerant of his all work-no-play lifestyle than others. Those who didn't care to make themselves useful were released, while the remaining pokemon became his closest assistants, and probably the closest thing to friends he'd ever have in his entire life.
One day though, Hector found himself being stalked by a wild Trubbish. He was more into steel and electric types himself. They were great for working with machines and electrical stuff he was fiddling around with constantly. A walking trash bag didn't really have the same usefulness, so of course he moved along. Unfortunately, the trubbish just kept following him around. Even after Hector screams all sorts of abuse at it, it just won't leave him alone.
Even to the present day, Hector hasn't actually officially caught the garbage pokemon. It just continues to follow him ever faithfully. It's uncertain if the trubbish is just attracted to Hector's serious case of body odour, or if it truly enjoys his company. Maybe it's a mixture of both, but whatever the case, the little guy is something Hector has grown to at least tolerate, even if he still makes the odd attempt to tell the thing to buzz off and hasn't really come up with a different name for it other than "Scram".
The day the legend portal opened up, was a more emotional day than he was used to. Times had been hard of course on Earth. Starting anew was probably the best way to go about it and all, but in leaving Earth behind, he also had to leave much of his life's work behind as well. Sure, he could have just stayed behind with the other stragglers, but what was the point? Plus, he couldn't just let everybody go to this new world and screw everything up because he wasn't there to do everything right!
So, he went along to Mi-aro, carrying just about as much supplies as he and his pokemon could manage. Once settled in the new world, he had gotten straight to work trying to rebuild as much as he could. Unfortunately though, there was one major thing that was missing in Mi-aro, a good renewable power source that wouldn't screw up their new world like they had Earth. So that was a problem he set out to fix.
Hector, though much experimenting, had eventually discovered that the energy given off by the legend portal, could be used to power machinery. Eventually, through his genius, Mi-aro now had means to generate and store energy from the legend portal, and they were soon out of the dark ages. It had been a huge milestone for the developing civilization, and for a while, a lot of attention had been on Hector.
Not being the one who enjoyed so much attention though, he mostly did his best to hide out and keep away from the crowds as much as he could. Eventually the attention would die down and he'd regain obscurity amongst the general populace. He still works closely with the city though, being the one the Emissary turns to when it comes to maintaining the settlement's electrical systems and machinery. Nowadays he can usually be seen around Port City and sometimes even all the way in New Pallet from time to time, doing what he does and otherwise still keeping to himself.
