Maud 'Smartypants' Moppet
Age: ~5-7
Gender: Female
Orientation: Don't care, got books
Profession: Mini-Merchant
Occupation: 'Buks Yeller' (Book Seller)
Appearance:
The diminutive Smartypants' most distinctive physical feature is her odd eyes – a case of heterochromia that has given her one reddish-brown eye and one greyish-blue eye. Her hair, though not brightly coloured, is also distinctive, hanging in thick strand-clumps that resemble the hair of a basic ragdoll. It also alternates in shades of grey-brown. However, the thing that usually distracts others from her actual features is her hat. This peculiar, Kecleon-themed object is the last thing she has of her mother, who was from a long line of Spellcasters.
[Face Claim: A slightly edited version of Angela Leon – Soul Eater]
Everyday Clothes: Her Kecleon hat, stolen dark blue shorts with white polka dots, patchwork multicolour shirt.
Pack: A scavenged rucksack that looks too big for her, which is black and somewhat worn.
Personality:
Smartypants is a stoic little tyke, and somewhat blunt. Generally, if it doesn't have anything to do with books, she isn't going to be interested. Well, unless she's hungry or something. She doesn't really come out of her shell all that much, preferring to practise her reading and immerse herself in stories. For this reason, she doesn't socialise all that much if it doesn't involve books – social interactions tend to be a bit much for her after a while, especially if they get loud. Most of the time, she prefers to sit by herself, but she'll scootch closer if someone's doing storytime or reading lessons, and she'll occasionally take part in raids on Port City if she thinks there's a chance to acquire more books. Yes, she's a little obsessive, but the others are willing to let her have this, since so many useful things can be found in books, and she's willing to help them look things up. Since she's so avid about the things, she's sought out all the tutoring she can on the subject of reading, so she's actually fairly literate. She doesn't tend to react much to things, unless someone messes up or rips one of her books. Then, she'll yell at them and throw stones. It is possible that her precocious nature is part of what keeps her from identifying with the other Lost Kids of her age group, but it could also have something to do with having been raised as an only child among intellectuals. She is quietly passionate about literature in general, science, and high fantasy in particular, and often puts forward recommendations for storytime based on this.

Backstory:
Smartypants was born on Mi-aro, to a family from Johto descended from a Spellcaster named Lily. Her name was originally Maud Moppet, but she's never actually told any of the other Lost Kids that, content with the name they gave her. Her parents were part of a self-organised research expedition consisting of themselves, two of their colleagues, and little Smartypants – who was only included because they couldn't find anyone to babysit her at the time, and the expedition was likely to be long-term, and had a habit of putting on her mother's hat. This expedition was one of botany, in search of new useable plants – preferably edible, medical or able to be woven, and the first area on their list was the forest of the Mirror Lake area.
Things went reasonably well for the first few months, the Pokemon they'd brought along providing sufficient protection from marauding feral creatures. However, they weren't counting on running into an already-agitated Beedrill lair. There were Weedle and Kakuna all around, and swarms of angry Beedrill – it was hard to say what could have happened, but it looked as though a large Pokemon might have been fighting them for some reason, possibly a predator looking to feed on the Weedle and getting more than it bargained for. Whatever the reason, it was only the small and swift who made it past – Smartypants and the family Kecleon, Zaggy. Frightened and alone, they kept running until they crashed into someone.
The person they'd crashed into was another child, dressed in raggedy clothing, who was understandably surprised to see them. Looking around, the girl and Kecleon could see that they had ended up in a little place full of raggedy children and their Pokemon – a relatively safe haven where they could recuperate and process what had happened. In time, Smartypants realised that there was nothing left for her outside the forest, and decided to stay, eventually accumulating a hoard of books to remind her of those she had lost, who had read to her every evening – sometimes from their scientific journals. She developed a quiet passion for the things, and soon became a Mini-Merchant focusing on literature. A helpful fellow Mini-Merchant specialising in carved wood traded her a sign in exchange for a reading primer – it was clearly needed, as her sign – scratched and stained into a flattish chunk of wood – reads 'Buks Yeller'. It seemed to serve its purpose though, especially after she got him to add 'ABC' at the bottom, so she kept it.
