Merry
Age: ~10-12
Gender: Female
Orientation: Uncertain
Profession: Mama
Occupation: Medical care
Appearance:
With soft pink hair and blue eyes, Merry has often been told that she resembles someone called Nurse Joy, something which inspired her to trade for her long white coat-like garment – after hearing someone say that medics wore white. If she looks clean, it's probably because she's needed for making someone well – she's just as messy as the rest otherwise. She also wears a fluffy pink set of ears and tail that someone tributed to her for her efforts, though it's unclear precisely what they used to belong to. Typically, her demeanour seems timid, but she'll usually be smiling brightly.
[Face Claim: Haruka Akane – Celestial Globe of Your Heart]
Everyday Clothes: A long white coat-like garment, and those ears and tail, form the most consistent parts of Merry's outfit – the rest is down to chance, usually consisting of stolen clothing rather than feral-made, as these are usually easier to clean.
.
Pack: A stolen faded pink backpack that still has a few sequins sewn in for some other little girl. It has most of a picture of a Skitty on it, and she loves it.
Personality:
Merry is a person with a soft exterior and a firm inner conviction, and one who tries to live up to her name. She comes across as gentle and caring, and takes most opportunities to try and soothe anyone who seems upset, including those who are older than her. Her tone of voice, usually soft and bright, tends to reflect this, and she tries to avoid coming across as sad or angry when she can. She loves looking after the littler tykes when they come to her with their assorted ailments, finding them endearing, and feeling that – in this – she is needed and has purpose. Her patience and placid demeanour evaporate rather abruptly if anyone or anything interferes with her medical care and procedure, and especially her medical supplies – which are precious and difficult to replenish accurately and in clean condition. While she won't erupt in yelling and flailing – that would scare the tykes – she'll march the offender/s straight to someone with higher authority by the ear or other convenient appendage if the offender/s happen to be human or non-savagely-attacking Pokemon, scolding them on the way. Then, she'll smile at them sweetly and tell them not to do it again. If whatever disturbed her and/or her stuff is more dangerous, and she can't abscond with patient/s and/or supplies, she'll retaliate fiercely – usually with a stolen shovel she calls Thumpy. In the event that it is her patient/s who are the problem, such as those who want to get out and about before she's done with them, she is not above fetching in a Pokemon that can make them fall asleep. That way, she can get some peace and quiet while the more belligerent patients are healing.

Backstory:
Merry was about six when she came through the Legend Portal with her father, having already lost her mother to smoke inhalation. Unfortunately, her father's apocalypse-induced ailments were severe, and he was starting to fade. She tried her best to help the medically-oriented people who were attempting to fix him – usually by fetching and carrying things – but nothing seemed to be working. However, he told her that he didn't want her to be sad, and that she should look at the things that are better, instead of the things that are bad. He encouraged her to smile, and to find whatever she could to be happy about, despite the fact that things could go wrong. She tried her best to be positive, since it made her Daddy happy, and she hoped that – just maybe – it might make him better. Since she was a cheery child to begin with, it wasn't too difficult, but seeing her Daddy getting worse and worse was really wearing on the little one. She decided that she wanted to be able to help make him better, just like the grown up medics, instead of just fetching whatever things they said they needed.
Merry didn't understand quite how she should go about the task of becoming a medic, so she asked whatever grown up would listen. Some of them, among those who didn't tell her to wait until she was older, managed to explain things like first aid and herbalism in basic terms – one kind soul even gave her a basic first aid primer, though she couldn't read all of it just yet. When she asked for medical supplies of her own, though, she was told that she couldn't play with them – that she wasn't allowed. Hiding her desperation and determination behind a bubbly smile, she resolved to simply 'borrow' some instead. Night by night, she sneaked little bits and pieces into her belongings, never taking too much of anything at once – and generally varying her targets. Just before she thought she was ready, though, her father took a turn for the worse.
Listening in, and seeing a cuddly pink Pokemon trying to heal her Daddy with its powers, Merry was entranced by the creature – an Audino. Surely, this wonderful creature could help her learn to be a medic! Watching carefully when the Pokemon was returned and stowed away, Merry continued to plot. Further observations taught her that this was not the only medical Pokemon in the settlement, so surely just one wouldn't be missed? With this in mind, she pilfered the Audino's Pokeball one night, taking the creature to a hiding place of hers in the hopes that it would teach her. The Audino proved patient and tolerant enough to give it a go, though the language barrier was a bit of an issue, but she wasn't sure she was learning fast enough. Her Daddy wasn't getting any better – in fact, he was still getting worse.
Frantic, but trying to hide it for Daddy's sake, Merry stayed with him often – sometimes trying to help her stolen Audino heal him while he slept. It wasn't working. While racking her brains for something to help, she hit upon the idea that – just maybe – there might be a magical herb somewhere in the wilds that would help. Sharing her plan with the Audino, whom she had named Happy, she wandered purposefully out past the border of Port City, travelling successively further in search of something that would heal her Daddy. She wasn't sure what precisely it would look like, but she felt sure that Happy would know it when he saw it. However, she tried over and over to no avail, and people were getting real suspicious about her behaviour. Eventually, after another failed attempt, she sat by her Daddy's bedside and cried. He didn't know what she had been doing, but he did his best to comfort her, telling her a story about a little Skitty until she calmed down. When she had stopped crying, and seemed to be feeling better, he smiled and started to sing her a lullaby – one that had always made her feel safe and loved. When the song was over, he smiled for her again, slowly brushing the hair out of her eyes, and told her that he loved her, his merry little girl. She gave him a kiss on the forehead, and responded softly that she loved him too. He seemed to sigh contentedly, if tiredly, and Merry waited for him to say goodnight. However, the expected words never came.
Concerned, Merry took a closer look at her Daddy. He was smiling still, but his chest wasn't moving even a little, and his eyes were half-lidded and unblinking. Trembling, she urged Happy to try healing him, and fumbled with her stolen supplies anxiously. The grown up medics had talked to her softly on the subject of death, but she didn't want to acknowledge it – how could she? She hadn't even finished learning to be a medic yet – how could it already be too late? Nothing worked, just as poor Happy knew would be so, and the now-sobbing little girl hugged her Daddy tightly until the tears stopped coming, unable to do anything else. She could have given up her dream right then, with her Daddy beyond anyone's help, but even in her grief she knew that she wouldn't. There would be others who still needed a medic, and maybe – if she became a really really good one – she might find her magic herb after all, and never ever have to feel this way again. In her heart of hearts, she knew that she couldn't fix this, but she clung to the thought as though it could bring her Daddy back to her.
Unable to bear the thought of staying near her Daddy's unbreathing form until the medics came and saw that he was gone, she gathered up everything of hers she could carry – mostly her pilfered medical supplies, a stuffed Skitty and Happy's ball – and ran away to the wilds she'd been searching for herbs. She didn't have a clear idea of where she was going, or how she would survive, but she was fortunate in that respect. On the second day following her flight from Port City, a trio of children dressed in shabby clothes and Pokemon skins found her sniffling at the edge of Mirror Lake. They brought her back to their home with them, walking her through the feral child settlement and presenting her to the Chieftain and Council of the time.
As part of the Lost Kid community, Merry continued to further her dream of becoming a medic, and tried to remain as bright and cheerful as her Daddy'd hoped she'd be. It was no surprise to anyone that she earned the title 'Mama' from her efforts and care, and she found that she was able to make a difference here – something she clung to with all her heart. Some of the older kids taught her to read better, which helped her to understand what was in the basic primer she still possessed, and any other medical texts that ended up being scrounged. Happy the Audino remained with her throughout this, though he could have chosen to run away back to his former trainer – he felt that Merry needed him more. Eventually, after impressing a Council member whose Pokemon partner had needed healing, she was gifted a second stolen Audino as a tribute to her skills. This one, whom she named Smiley, was female. A natural consequence to this surprised her, when one day she found that Smiley was guarding an egg. She was startled, but delighted, and the baby Audino that resulted from this – a male she called Cuddles – she treats as though her own little brother.
