The first steps into trainer hood (starter thread)

It was early within the morning when Nick woke up from his slumber at his house. His mother had already left his clothes on his desk, together with a ticket to the Gogoat traveling service. It was quite a big day for him. He was invited to the Ambassador to be offered the title of trainer. He would be allowed to have a Pokemon by his side. This is what excited him a lot! He wanted to become a trainer from quite a young age and now he would be offered the position with great mentoring from the ambassador.

He put his entire formal three-piece uniform on and went off. He had his invitation and the ticket by his hand and went over towards Port City.

---A few hours later---

It was around 1 PM. The sun was shining on his neck and the adrenaline was rushing through his body.  Nick Phoenix had arrived in Port City for an appointment with the famous Ambassador, Anita Nguyen. He stepped off the Gogoat and stretched himself out with his arms over his head, “I am finally here, how awesome is that!” He jumped on his spot a couple of times and looked around. He was seeing the different buildings, the people which were working and the Pokemon which were helping them.

He walked around the city in order to go towards the Emissary. He had to walk a long straight path until he saw a fountain and finally the entrance! He stepped inside of the front office at the reception. “Hello ma'am”, He said loosening his tie and grabbing the letter with the appointment after that. “I have come for an appointment with the Ambassador, I have been invited.” He told before handing over the letter. Even if he spoke with the woman he could only think about which Pokemon he might get. There were so many options as far as he knew, it was unlimited within his mind.

Considering trainers were always coming and going due to meetings with the Ambassador, the receptionist was not surprised when Nick offered her the letter to look at it.

"That's quite alright Mr. Phoenix, we have been expecting you. Ms. Nguyen is ready for you. You will find her office straight back and through the heavy oak doors," she said, before turning back to her computer.

Nick would follow the instructions and after a short knock, be invited into the massive office.
Looking up from her work, Anita nodded and ushered him in.

"Mr. Nick Phoenix. Nice to see you. Please, come take a seat. I've been reviewing your trainer application and I like what I see. Based on your answers and screening, I have prepared starters that I feel will help you the most in your goals to become a true Hero for the new world." she said, not wasting any time with pleasantries. Reaching into her desk, she pulled out five poke balls and placed them in front of her. When Nick was ready, she pushed the latches and five arches of light appeared as the options materialized before the new trainer.



The Pokemon obediently lined up on the floor next to the boy as Anita stood up.
Walking past each one she gave them the look, and they remained behaved.

"Now, to help you, I will speak a little bit about each one and why I have selected it for you. Starting with Rufflet," she said, and the eaglet hopped forward, chirping proudly.
"Rufflet and its evolution Braviary are the spitting image of heroism and bravery. Many a man has used this majestic Eagle as their coat of arms or the sigil to their household. Strong, brave, and fierce, this Pokemon stands for democracy and freedom."

She moved down the line, pointing and both Shinx and Litleo at once.
"Shinx and Litleo, both lion type Pokemon. You may know, the lion is seen as a brave and powerful beast, commonly referred to as the king of its habitat. Both of these Pokemon evolve into fierce and mighty beasts. The only different lies in their elemental proficiency. Shinx is an electric type and Litleo is a fire type. A male Litleo's mane burns with the fire of passion and bravery."

Both cubs looked up at the trainer, nodding and trying to look cute so that they would get picked.
"Growlithe, the fire pup. Commonly known as a Pokemon utilized for law enforcement, these canines are fiercely loyal and brave beyond measure. Once evolved, an Arcanine can scent prey for miles and run almost faster than a Rapidash." she said, as the pup lolled its tongue and panted.

"Finally, we have Gligar. A bit of a joke here on my part, as you may have heard of the super hero Gligarman from the comic books. That being said, Gligar are tough as nails and brave to a fault. Though their evolution looks a tad evil, with proper training these scorpion like Pokemon can be valuable on the battle field as well as preventing crime."

The Gligar waved a claw and gave Nick a smile before Anita sat back at her desk.
"Choice is yours Nick. As a mercenary, you are allowed to select two of my Pokemon. Think carefully and wisely, for these two starter Pokemon will dictate the path your career takes." she said, folding her hands on her desk plotter and waited patiently.

Nick was at the receptionist and heard that he was expected. He smiled to receptionist and said, "Thank you for your help and have a pleasant day." He went inside after having knocked. He noticed the woman was very busy and totally forgot that his crime fighting ways were slightly different than what the woman had first said about. It didn't matter. He kept on listening and took a seat.

He listened to the explanation given by all the Pokemon and observed them in the meantime. He wanted to see there behavior, but it was easy to notice that their behavior was at its peak with Anita around. He excitedly took in the information and had to take a few breathers to stay as calm as possible. "Thank you! now who to pick?" He spoke to himself.

Nick had the decision now to pick, which of the starters he would like to have. He sat down in the center of the group. "You all are awesome Pokemon, but I can only pick two of you." He said very calm and kindly. He looked around and observed the Pokemon. He saw that the two cubs tried to keep on being cute, but their charms didn't work. "My first pick will be Growlithe." He had told the Ambassador calmly, standing up from his spot as he walked around and looked them over.

He had to think deeply about the decision and why he wanted the final Pokemon and not the others, "The most logical option would be Rufflet, but his own pride can make it difficult. Gligar, I don't know why...It seems, he had been here for a while and same for the two cubs." He placed his hand under the chin, "This is difficult." before lowering his knees near Shinx and suddenly attempting to lift up the Pokemon, if the Pokemon didn't do anything, "Shinx, would you like to come with me?", he had asked smiling towards the Pokemon.

"Ambassador Nguyen, I have decided for my starting partners, Shinx and Growlithe", he spoke confidently.

"Solid choices. Now, we have some other business to attend to," she said, returning the three non-chosen Pokemon to their poke balls, and storing them in her desk for other trainers to choose from at a later time.

Pulling items from various drawers, she started a small pile on her desk.
"As a newly sanctioned mercenary, you are given an X-Gear, 5 poke balls and you may select either an Ability Chip or a Dex Chip," she said, taking a small box and opening it, revealing the chips.

"In addition, you may select three trainer items from the Global Market under 35 in price. You may select those from my stores here," she said, pointing to the shelf.
"Please, take your time," she said, opening her next file folder.

When Nick was finished, she closed her folder and smiled.
"My contact is already programmed into your X-Gear. Should you need me, you may contact me at any time. From time to time, I will also be checking in with you. If you have no further questions, I need you to go to New Pallet. We are dealing with a Spinarak swarm situation and we need all the able trainers possible." she said, nodding.
