Gwendolyn Steele
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Orientation: Bisexual
Profession: Mercenary
Occupation: Tamer
Appearance:
Gwendolyn is a fairly tall woman, standing at five feet and eleven inches tall. She has a moderately solid build, having a fair bit more muscle than one might expect from a person of her gender, or occupation for that matter, though she isn't grossly ripped or anything like that. She has a fairly flat chest and minimal curves. She has a moderate to pale complexion, and bright blue eyes. She has pitch black, chest length hair that she typically wears down, though she isn't above tying it up on occasion. She does like to wear make up, mostly to make her face paler than it actually is, plus some blue eye shadow to bring out her eyes. She is rarely seen with out it, and can be difficult to recognize when she doesn't have it on.
Face Claim: Re-l Mayer / Ergo Proxy
Everyday Clothes:
Gwen tends to dress herself both modestly, and practically. Long sleeve sweaters, and parkas are usually her thing in the winter. In moderate weather she'll swap the parka for a leather jacket. In summer, she'll go for regular t-shirts or sleeveless turtlenecks. Pants she usually wears year round, wearing heavier ones during winter and only switching to thinner fabrics in the summer. She wears a pair of black combat boots most of the time. She doesn't usually wear much jewellery, though she does have a silver choker sapphire necklace that she wears sometimes. As far as colors go, she mostly wears a lot of dark colors, mostly black, with icy colored accents.
Formal Garbs:
Though Gwen could afford to wear something nice and formal, she just flat out refuses to. Dresses, skirts and heels are the very definition of impractical, and most of what she wears every day works just fine for most occasions as far as she is concerned. If she does have to wear some sort of shirt or dress for whatever reason, anyone can bet it's one she can tear away easily.
Pack:
Gwendolyn carries a black leather shoulder bag with her whenever she is out and about. There are clips on the shoulder strap to attach her pokemon's poke balls on.
Personality:
Gwendolyn is a very calm individual, and tends to let whatever negative feelings she has roll off her back. She doesn't respond to insults, and typically pays no mind to what people have to say about her. She also is very capable of keeping a level head, even under dangerous, potentially life-threatening situations. She meditates every morning to maintain a peaceful state of mind which allows her to remain calm under pressure.
She's also very loyal and caring toward her friends and pokemon, and does her best to treat them well, so long as they would do the same for her. Toward strangers however, she is severely apathetic. Whatever problems they have, whatever dangers they are in, Gwen is never in much of a hurry to help unless there is something in it for her. Of course, she expects the same treatment from strangers, though should they defy her expectations, she will do whatever she can to repay them.
Gwen is a very independent person, and is very capable of getting things done without requiring help from others. She also tends to find her own answers to problems and find things out for herself, rather than ask others to give them to her. She prefers independence and good work ethic from others, especially her pokemon. She also doesn't take too well to being told what she should or shouldn't do, particularly in cases where it is none of the offender's business in the first place. Maybe society might want her to do something a certain way, but Gwen doesn't do anything unless it is what she wants to do.
She is a very logical thinker, and doesn't normally let her emotions cloud her judgement. She isn't very sentimental, and in most cases, she doesn't consider anything important unless it grants some practical benefit to her. She isn't completely above sentimentality though, and the most notable, if not only exception, is the silver sapphire embedded choker she wears which had been given to her grandmother. Even then though, she also simply likes the choker and would have likely gotten one for herself at whatever point. Regardless though, she'd still have a hard time relinquishing it than she would most of her non-living belongings.
Gwendolyn has never really considered pokemon to be lesser than human beings. Still though, she maintains a commanding position amongst her pokemon and expects obedience and loyalty in return for her leadership, training and care. She does her best to be patient with her pokemon, and train them the best way that suits them. Gwendolyn though, isn't above releasing a pokemon if they prove to be too uncooperative. She does care about the pokemon she captures, but she reasons that they are better off on their own than being forced to obey her when they clearly do not want to.
Likes: Pokemon, Dark or icy colors, Meditation, Independence, Reading, Tea
Dislikes: Impractical clothing, Conformity, Loud noise, Laziness, Pranks, Black licorice
Backstory:
Gwendolyn was just a newborn when the legend portal was opened up, and her family had wasted little time passing through it when their opportunity for a new life came to them. As such, she has no recollection of the world her family had left behind, and the only home she has ever really known, was Mi-aro. Her feelings toward humanity's downfall on earth are neutral. She doesn't really blame anyone for what happened to the old planet. Perhaps it could have been saved, but she believes the failure was due to a simple lack of options. She has read about what Lysandre had attempted to do to 'save' the planet many generations ago, but Gwen herself doesn't really consider it a solution. Perhaps the planet would have been saved, but the devastation to the world's population would still occur, and if the point isn't to save lives, she doesn't really see the point at all.
Gwen's parents were both researchers, and spent a significant amount of time in the field, helping to gather information on their new world. Their duties left them little time to raise a child, so Gwendolyn was raised by her maternal grandmother instead. Her grandmother, Ramona Fayth was a medium, who's lineage can be traced back to various famous mediums and psychics, such as Sabrina and Morty. She is a stern, no non-sense woman, with a pessimistic view on humanity's ability to change. She did want to see a better future yes, but she fails to see what difference there will be, and believes that humanity will more likely fall back on their old habits once they get comfortable in their new world.
Grandma Ramona was most definitely the reason why Gwendolyn grew to be as serious as she is. Still, she remains more hopeful than her grandmother for the future of humanity. As she grew up, she'd dabble a bit in spiritual communication along side her grandmother, but she'd eventually become disinterested in the practice. By the time she turned eighteen, she had decided she wanted to do more to help humanity settle into their new world and expand, so she began taking steps toward becoming a researcher, like her parents were. However, she eventually found that route didn't suit her that well either. She was really more interested in training pokemon than she was in studying them. At last, she decided to give up researching, and instead take on mercenary work with the goal of taming the feral pokemon that lived on this planet.
