forty | male | heterosexual |
survivor | gogoat rancher | OAK |
appearance
Ervin is both the type of person you would expect to see on a Gogoat Ranch, and one you would not. The man stands at roughly five feet seven inches; his skin a light tan color. He often appears with some amount of dirt here or there on him, and usually sweaty if he has given a hard day's work (which is just about everyday). A few scratches and scars also line his body.
His hair is spiked and generally unkempt; golden in color and often hanging over his eyes, which are blue in color. He also has a bit of scruff along his jaw. He appears muscular whenever he isn't wearing a shirt - which is most days, if it happens to be hot. He is often seen with a cigarette in his mouth, even while working.

Bardroy - Black Butler
clothing
everyday On most days, Ervin wears a white long sleeved shirt - with the sleeves rolled up, if it happens to be hot enough - with a light brown button up vest over it. Often, he will be wearing a barrette of some sorts that matches his vest. His favored pants are often a pair of jeans with plenty of holes in them - he has a few of these in his drawer. He often wears boots alongside this outfit; better to deal with the Gogoat in hard shoots that protect your feet, after all. | formal Oddly enough, Ervin owns a suit he wears to the rare formal occasions he attends. However, it is obvious that it has been eaten by some sort of bug - or perhaps a Gogoat - several times, and as such, has been sewn up with lighter patches of fabric in various places. His shoes to go along with this is a simple pair of tennis shoes. |
backpack
Ervin appears to wear some sort of fanny pack whenever he's venturing around his farm, which carries various items within it. Whenever he is traveling over long distances, he will be seen with a one strap backpack, to carry all of his heavier items in.
personality
Ervin tends to be a rather friendly and helpful person when you first meet him; he has often aided nearby settlements by leasing his Gogoats out as a form of transportation when and if needed. He is generally all smiles, and tends to lend a helping hand if needed, and is generally a cooperative person - if you are kind in return. If it's quite obvious that you are going to be rude to him, he will not be afraid in turning you away, even if you need help.
Ervin is a very compassionate soul; if it isn't obvious by the way he seems to enjoy helping others (if they ask nicely), then it can be seen in how he takes care of Pokemon. They appear well taken care of, if anything. He is very hard working in this way, and takes his work rather seriously. You will rarely - if ever - see him slacking in his line of work; very solemn, dignified and proud in way of his work.
While he is not the brightest person ever to walk the Earth - one might even call him simple minded in the way he acts - Ervin is a very clever man. You can tell by how he has kept his farm together after so many years, using different resources whenever he cannot come by what he actually needs; and, on the rare occasion, how he returns pranks or gets someone back who has wronged him.
Ervin appears stoic and wise, even at age forty. He has been through a lot - even seeing the destruction of PokeEarth and coming to this world to begin again. He can even be quite witty at times, though on occasion his jokes may go over people's heads.
You will note that Ervin is quit a solitary man, despite being friendly and kind towards others that pass by his farm. He has no wife, nor does he have any children to speak up. Other than the occasional passer-by, or when he has to go into town, he is generally by himself and, despite his personality, actually enjoys a quiet and serene life. Some might think him to be asocial, since he rarely goes seeking companionship for himself. That can also be quite true.

the backstory
Forty-five years ago, Ervin Lynn Gibbs was born in the Old World to Alexander and Jessica Gibbs, and was the middle child of five. They lived in the Kanto region, outside of Vermillion City on a small farm that raised and sheared Mareep for their wool, as so it could be made into clothes. Each of the children - from oldest to youngest: Amelia Leigh, Jackson Cole, Ervin, Halie Angelina and Elijah Scott - were expected to help out on the farm from the time they could walk; and due to this, Ervin came to love helping take care of Pokemon and learning about growing crops.
Ervin worked hard on the ranch - perhaps harder than his own siblings - and it became obvious that he enjoyed his work as the years passed. His older siblings left for their own journeys with Pokemon eventually - Ervin, however, chose to stay behind and help the family instead. He felt as though he could do more at home rather than traveling the world. He would always have the time to see it later, when he was full grown, and instead worked on the ranch and his failing grades instead. Boy, was he wrong.
By the time he was nineteen, the world was in ruins. His siblings, who had all gone out on journeys despite everything that was going on - Elijah had said he wanted to try and help the planet and save it from being destroyed, even though there was little hope of it - and only two had made it back to the farm before the Portal had opened. It had taken nearly a year to convince his parents that crossing the Portal was the best idea; by this time, his father had died of a heart failure, and his other siblings had yet to be found. Fearing for their own safety, the remaining family members crossed through the Portal with what remained of their livestock.
Mi-aro was so different and strange compared to their home back on Poke-Earth. They found it rather difficult to find land decent enough for their livestock to graze. However by the time six months had passed, only a few Mareep remained due to wild Ferals attacking and killing the rest. In effort to keep his remaining family alive and safe - as his other siblings had yet to return - Ervin went to Oak begging for help. Oak indeed answered his prayers - offering him a Pokemon in exchange for scouting out the area around the new settlements. Ervin graciously agreed.
Four years passed, and at about twenty-four years of age, Ervin became stronger both mentally and physically. He was often found helping others lost or in need of assistance after his duty of scouting and salvaging became of little use due to others joining the hunt. He had caught and tamed many Pokemon in his time in Mi-aro, and by age twenty five had aided their people greatly to this effect.
Eventually, Ervin returned home, having often sent whatever money he made back in order to help his sister and mother. His mother had become ill around this time; Halie having little time to aid their mother, as she was often out traveling as a merchant to earn extra money. Their mother died a few short months later, and, being the oldest, Ervin reluctantly took the farm they had set up for himself. He decided to raise Gogoat instead of Mareep as they had, as they seemed sturdier than the sheep Pokemon, and were a good mode of transportation.
