lv 2 ---- 1/75 949 WORDS TAG MOD | JULY 23 The city was exiting- and there was another town that the Professor had suggested she go north to a town called New Pallet. And she would, eventually, but she was feeling more overwhelmed by the whole night that she was exactly willing to admit to herself. She had a pokemon, Hexe, who floated quietly near her almost constantly now. She’d encountered more people over the course of a few days than in the rest of her life, had food not made in her hut. It was a lot to take in and Sybil needed a bit of time to process it on her own. Of course Hexe would be allowed to come, she seemed very relaxed and Sybil liked that. It was late afternoon and Sybil left the city to find a quiet grove to sit in somewhere in the nearby forest. Her home was still a few days out- she’d never reach it in time to sleep in her own bed. She probably wouldn’t sleep in the forest anyway, as familiar as it was she had no tent and was not looking forward to the idea of being savaged in her sleep by a territorial feral pokemon. But often times berries and plants could be found in groves, and left almost all her ingredients back at her hut- though any that pokemon hadn’t eaten in her absence would probably be rotten by now. The weather was warm and the forest smelled alive. It was a hard thing to describe, the smell of life but Sybil found it the best smell in the world. She looked over at Hexe as they walked (well she walked and the pokemon floated). “Do you like the woods so far?” Sybil asked, and her companion swerved through the air indecisively. Sybil chuckled- maybe Hexe was too used to the city, that would have to change. “I love it here. Keep your eyes open for anything interesting.” Well, everything would be interesting to someone who’d never been in a place before. Sybil found apparently mundane things interesting in the city. But Hexe seemed far less impressed by things in general. Sybil stopped suddenly; an inconsistent colour caught her attention. She’s only seen it through the corner of her eye- but it was a dull, reddish brown drying on the leaves of a bush. Sybil looked at Hexe, who floated to rest beside her, “I think that’s blood,” The human told her, crouching down just off the path. She gently, slowly and cautiously cradled one of the stained leaves in her hand, examining it closely. It wasn’t fresh, more than a few hours dry at least, Sybil guessed. But it was blood. She didn’t know the species, human or pokemon, but she’d put her luck on it being a pokemon. There wasn’t a lot of blood, and it was concentrated around the bush. No large or obvious drag marks- what ever happened the struggle was small. It was Hexe who pointed out what the fight would have been about- tucked under the bush, hidden from Sybil’s eyes was an egg. She tugged gently on Sybil’s clothing an motioned under the bush. The human furrowed her brows, not sure she was up to sticking her hands under the bush blindly- but Hexe was insistent and Sybil decided she trusted her. Cautiously, Sybil’s hands groped in the foliage till her hands found he smooth egg, and she pulled it out. “This must have been what the fight was about,” Sybil mused, “But was it being protected or being served for dinner?” She wondered, examining it for cracks or damage. It seemed intact, “Whatever happened, its doomed if we leave it here.” Sybil stood, still holding the egg, and Hexe floated up with her, casting her own discerning eye over their new acquisition. Sybil glanced down at her, “What do you say, think we should keep it?” Sybil was inclined too- she’d never gotten to see a pokemon hatch before, even if she had an idea of the basics it would be interesting to see it unfold step by step. Hexe was less enthused, but shrugged and nodded. The Misdrevous was neither here nor there about an egg really. “Well then, I guess it’s coming with us.” Sybil placed the egg gently back on the ground and using her shawl fashioned a sling for it, securing it cradled against her mid-torso. The pair eventually found a grove, as was their original goal. Sybil found a large rock and stump and settled down on one. “Before we start hunting for berries, want to have a snack?” Sybil asked, and Hexe nodded solemnly. She was hungry and was curious as to what the human had to offer. From a small sack Sybil produced a berry Hexe had never seen before, and offered it to her. “You can only have one or you’ll be sick,” Sybil told her, “But it’s called a lolup berry. They are very rare.” Hexe took it and examined it carefully- before popping it into her mouth in a single bit. She didn’t chew (Sybil wasn’t sure ghosts had too) but considered the flavour carefully. The pokemon felt- stronger! It was odd, having such instant results, but she kinda wished she could have more. Sybil set to munching on some dried meat from her bag, offering some of it too Hexe would nibbled quietly. After they finished eating, Sybil stood and brushed herself off. “Come on, let’s see if we can find some more berries or herbs before it gets too dark to see,” Hexe blinked absently at her, “Alright- before it gets too dark for ME to see.” Sybil clarified, which seemed to please her pokemon.
