[attr="class","page"] [attr="class","turning"] With a few bits of her remaining money, she bought a sword. Her hands trembled as he gripped the hilt, pointing it toward the sky in a defensive position. She held a short-sword in the air, letting the glimmer from the new steel shine into parts of the west that were heavily shadowed. Her breath was staggered and shaky. Gible had run a bit ahead, and no word or noise from her pokemon could be heard. She did not like that, as the swarm of pokemon meant five or more could be cornering him. "K...Kygo?" She spoke in a low voice, but the raw sound was loud enough for her pokemon. Everything was shady, and nothing made sense.
What was out here to push for an attack? She knew bug pokemon in general were territorial. They only attacked if they felt that their home had been encroached upon, which it hadn't. Well, Emerald could only assume, but not large plans to extend New Pallet had gotten out, and in the dense western forest or leaves and webs, it seemed that this was not the home of the swarm. There was not nearly enough webbing in the area; it should be completely white and clear from the strings of threads, right? This had webs all about, but it was all wet and fresh-looking. Nothing made sense to the girl.
Low growls made the green-haired researcher run to her pokemon, who was caught in some webs. Using her hands, she pulled the sticky webs off of her pokemon, and she switched her short-sword for a machete. It seemed that if the thread was sticky enough to entrap her pokemon, it would be more dangerous than the swarm. And a machete coulf fend off any over-sized spider. Hopefully. "Did you spot anything?" She looked at her shark-like pokemon, hoping a scent or a larger, better pokemon would show itself. Emerald didn't want to fight it; she just wanted to see if it was around. She could relay the information to Anita and get someone in here to help. There was something pushing this attack, and though Emerald didn't know who, she was certain about a pokemon working this swarm behind the scenes.
"Okay, continue on ahead, but make sure you seem me at all times. Alert me if you see anything, okay?" The only thing worse than looking for a swarm alpha was being stalked by one, so the distance and set of eyes with both would help if they were being picked to be prey. An alpha was usually behind a swarm, Emerald thought, so there must be some reason as to why it was here. She wasn't too deep into the western areas, so she doubted the alpha would be near her--she hoped it wouldn't be near her. She just wanted something to help understand what was going on. She was a researcher, and finding out the cause of certain things was her main goal, wasn't it? Even if it wasn't, it was too late to turn back now.

The purchase of the short sword seemed to be a prophetic action by Emerald before she set off into the forest. Although the area seemed to be clear of the sticky, tell-tale sign of spider webbing, that didn't mean that there area was clear. In fact, other signs abound in the environment that it wasn't the case at all. There seemed to be a severe lack of the normal sounds in the forest. No birds chirping, no mammal Pokemon scurrying around for food, no real presences of life at all. It was kinda depressing actually. A sharp cry from Emerald's Gible would cause her to turn around and see the young land shark stuck to a tree, long silk webs trapping the right arm and claws of the Pokemon. So much for no webbing. The dead silence in the woods was surely creeping the trainer out by this time, and it was then that over thirty eyeballs seemed to glow from the shadows of the trees in the area. Slowly, the eyes separated a bit from each other and five large spider type Pokemon casually filtered down, long silk threads extending from their bottoms. Mandibles clicking, the four spiders eyed the young Gible. Emerald would not have long to get her Pokemon free from the webbing and ready to battle. Event! You have been spawned four swarm Spinarak to encounter. If Emerald was to utilize her Dex application on her Holo, she would see that these spiders were larger, had a different color to them, and none of them would match the face pattern on the abdomen in the Poke-dex picture. Your Spinarak have the following face patterns: - Nose - Snooty - Fed Up - Surprised Each Spinarak is Level 1, and has the following moves: Confusion, String Shot, Scary Face Each has a Bug/Psychic dual typing Good Luck to you! Feel free to pm me with any questions you might have, and we as a staff look forward to reading how your character deals with this new threat.

[attr="class","page"] [attr="class","turning"] Emerald's body reacted quickly to her pokemon's shouts of distress. His body was connected to a tree by silk string that most likely came off of the pokemon swarming New Pallet. Emerald dropped her sword and took out her hammer. She was not going to attempt to cut her pokemon free with something that sharp! Instead, she used the opposite edge of the hammer, used to pry under nails and pull them up, to dig under the silk string that stuck to Kygo. Once the hammer wedged between the tight and sticky silk, Emerald and Kygo worked to get the short hand out. In total, it took about two long minutes before Kygo was freed from the tree's grasp. His hand was still sticky as the turned to continue their search. When fully turned, eyes everywhere greeted her. She didn't even count how many were there, but she knew it was more than she could handle with one pokemon and one egg. She slowly lowered her body to the ground, trying to grab the sword on the ground. After four attempts to pick it up, she looked down; the sword was gone. "Kygo...sand attack." She jumped out of the way of her pokemon, who sent dirt flying everywhere as a quick getaway. The swarm moved as Emerald ran behind her pokemon, but the sand would hopefully keep the two safe from any targets for a few seconds. Emerald looked around for her sword, hammer in hand. She spotted the glint of the new bladed weapon near where the eyes were. Emerald picked up Kygo and dashed out of the area. "This is not good!" Kygo was clearly excited. Seeing all of the faces in the area made him want to battle and attack them. Emerald looked around for any other bug pokemon in the area, hoping none were close. It had been a bit of time, but they could never be too sure. "We need to go back. I need my sword, Kygo." Her pokemon nodded and started off to the the place from where they ran. It was incredibly dangerous going back, but Emerald knew that she only had an axe to do real damage. And that was only good for the use of close combat with a spider, and from what she witnessed before, they could use confusion. It must have meant they were psychically inclined. Like Venemoth or Dustox, they had some connection maybe to the move pool of psychic pokemon. Emerald didn't necessarily know, but she knew she would need to prepare for herself to be controlled, if they were strong enough for that.
When approaching the nest, Emerald spotted four pokemon. The holocaster said they were larger and discolored, but not shiny. Emerald looked at their "faces," none matching the one on the back of the pokemon in the holocaster. The noise and light of the holocaster eventually gave the duo away, and the pokemon came shuffling after them! "Kygo, now! Sand attack and then Metal Claw! I'm going for the sword!" Emerald instructed her pokemon and popped out from a tree, looking at the surprised spinarak. She put her egg down, and with the axe and raised hand, she tried to scare the pokemon into not attacking while she made her way around the four spiders. She didn't want to hurt them, but she would if they tried to hurt her or Kygo.

[attr="class","page"] [attr="class","turning"] Who is this woman? She was encroaching on the nest of the swarm! The Queen would not like this; they would need to keep her out of this space.
After a terrifying encounter with the girl and an attempt to scare her, she fled, even leaving her shiny metal rod! It was sharp to the touch, but it stuck to the webs fine enough. It was the crowning achievement of the reconnaissance and intelligence squad on the people of New Pallet. Their advanced intelligence sheer size of the swarm allowed for groups to attack while some stayed in the forest and researched. Emerald and her pokemon were not a part of this research, but after the first encounter she soon would become a subject in their human experiments.
When the green-haired woman and her dragon returned, flashing some light structure about pokemon similar to the spiders, they jumped into action. "What were those?" The perpetually surprised Spinarak did not like what the girl had. It seemed to have information on them like they were trying to have on her! "Whatever. We can take the item she has and even present her to be eaten." They all nodded to the one with a snooty face on its abdomen. The four mutant pokemon moved in a diamond to the shark-like pokemon, hoping to gang up on him. Like before when escaping, the pokemon threw sand at the pokemon, covering them in dirt, but otherwise not harming them. Surprised was, well, surprised when Emerald inched over with a hammer to retrieve her sword that stuck to a web in the small nest. With a gasp, the pokemon spoke, "She's trying to enter our nest!" He jumped a bit, turning his back on the dragon type. The Nose-shaped face glanced at her, then back at the pokemon before receiving steel claws to the face. He tumbled back, sending a thread at the pokemon instinctively. This pokemon was tough, and before they had a chance to attack, Kitzu ran from the forest on the one who looked fed up! She disrupted their tight formation, letting one go after Emerald and making the three form a triangle. "Kitzu!" The girl cried out to the fire type. The battle was quickly turning into an even match, which they did not like. The front spider, the Nose, reared its abdomen up to show the face fully, extending the height of the pokemon almost two and a half times its normal height. The attack surely would scare the dragon type, but no one could be sure. String shot out, attempting to grab the pokemon and stick him to the tree. Psychic abilities from the third pokemon in the triumvirate. The bug pokemon going after Emerald spoke spoke to her a bit too casually."So what was that light show you made with me on it?" It seemed he cared more for the studying of her than eating. Hewouldn't mind some food, but the fire type looked more appealing than the greener human. He looked expectantly before using psychic abilities to take the holocaster out of her bag and moving it to the web with her sword. "I guess I'll find out after you're dead!" He then let thread shoot toward the girl.

[attr="class","page"] [attr="class","turning"] A lot of things happened. And Emerald really could only react to them accordingly. The string seemed to slow down her dragon, though his claws were spared from the sticky thread. Emerald's newest pokemon had stayed away--as she asked--until then. She wasn't angry, considering the leverage they had slimmed down quite a bit after Kitzu's arrival. Emerald herself had little she could do, but with her axe she kept the spider at bay. It wasn't easy, especially with being so close to the spider, she could only make small jabbing and slicing arcs at the arachnid. Her body relaxed and tightened every move from the pokemon in front of her. When the holocaster was taken from her bag, the pokemon spoke up. Could he only care about what was going on? Intentions of these things were slowly being realized in the girl. They didn't know humans, nor was the settlement attacked by them before. Would their strike be only an invasion to meet? Did they only want to speak and converse?
These thoughts were shot down by the mention of death. Her shoulder and upper torso was covered in the thread, but not her free hand. She brought the axe down on the pokemon, hoping to crush and kill it in one swoop; that was not the case. The pokemon let psychic abilities tighten the loose and gooey thread, startling Emerald, and turning the blade of the axe a bit askew from straight down. The adjustment did not stop the attack, but it made Emerald fall over and drop the axe. The pokemon shouted in pain at the side of the blade part slammed into it. Emerald, with a free hand, got up, and in the stunned position of the spider, she ripped the thread as much as she could off of her. The axe was too far away for a quick dive to get it; she settled for the weapon in her arsenal: flint and steel. She pulled the material out and lit a small fire near her, hopefully keeping the pokemon away from her as she stayed on the other side of the fire. She couldn't see past the growing flame, but she only assumed her pokemon were okay.
In fact, the two pokemon were quite in their element. A loud howl erupted from the fire-type, then a quick ball of fire emptied itself out of his mouth and caught on his fur. Kygo did not have any fancy aesthetics like that, and while the pokemon let loose the howl, he took the face, became frightened, recovered, and launched a blast of dirt at the spiders. Their only hope was for a seas of dirt to collide with their eyes and disrupt their field of view. They worried about their trainer, but the shriek from the spider sounded better than they were doing. When the fire type shot out at Nose, Kygo shot out with a tackle at Snooty. They were determined to make this situation a win; if they could.
Over the fire, Emerald needed to understand what was going on. With the Holocaster in the web with her sword, she wondered if their goal was survival or something else. Their morals were dubious at best, but if she had something they wanted--and were logical enough--they could be spared. "What do you want? Do you want technology? Why did you invade?"

[attr="class","page"] [attr="class","turning"] The two pokemon were greatly outnumbered! Great for them, as the pokemon and left one free to attack! Sadly for the trio, it was Fed Up. The pokemon had it to no end with this annoying human and her rodents. The flames singed the thread not caught by his web, and what did land hand not nearly enough power to control them! It was so annoying, the pokemon used confusion right on the dragon-type. Their attacks wouldn’t be super effective, but if they ganged up on one, they would win the battle!
They had little time to think about any union of powers as sand and flame flew. The dragon then rushed Snooty; she went flying. Nose moved out of the way of the attack, the fire just grazing him. But, in horror, the fibers of thread all on the pokemon caught fire. The exoskeleton burned and seared. One leg was turning black as the two enemies joined up once again, clearly satisfied with their work. “Let’s gang up and take this one out! It’s the weakest.” The rest of the spiders obliged, and before they knew it, the spiders had jerked the pokemon around before slamming it into a tree. Their power did not stack, sadly, as they hoped, though the hold was strong enough to not be fightable.
Surprised, on the other hand, was surprised! How dare she take a fire and use it to her advantage! It was shocking! Emerald asked of their purpose, and Surprised replied. “You don’t deserve to know! The dead don’t get answers!” String shot out at the girl, this time aimed precisely to hit. But she jumped, and she was pumping to the web, to her sword. She reached it, and in Surprise’s surprise, it didn’t make an attack. When the big spider came to its senses, it sent a thick glob of messy thread that clumped as it came out at Emerald. If this attack didn’t land, Surprise would have to bring another spider in on the action. The three pokemon’s collective confusion attack was strong, but over excessive. They realized this, and began structuring their defense after the attack. String lined the ground from Nosey and Fed Up. Snooty let the other two do the work, and she used confusion to set up a string that moved and would entrap and disable any who touched it. It made sense, and when the spiders were in brush or in a tree, the plan was perfect. The only problem was the faint glow of the thread, but that was fixed by a little leaves. Often times, it prompted humans to touch it anyway! But that also allowed for the pokemon or human to touch it unknowingly. These would need a push.
