LILITH BELLEROSE !!
The summer sun was at it's highest point in the sky by the time the mercenary woman had reached the center of Port City. The tall woman dressed in all black was clearly uncomfortable and she made her way to the open market area of the town. Small stalls were precariously placed in a line down the street with colorful cloth roofs and signs meant to attract the attention of those walking by with a bit of coin to spare. Normally Lilith avoided the market like the plague, never quite getting comfortable with the claustrophobic feeling she got when in a crowd of people. Even as a child, Lilith had made excuses to avoid running errands for her parents if it involved coming to the market.
Over the past five years it had grown exponentially as the population of Port City had grown. Everything one could ever need or want was available for purchase, drawing in large crowds. The noise of the place was what bothered Lilith as much as the crowds did. The cry of those haggling and the cacophony of voices managed to drown out the serenity of the wildlife that surrounded the city. It felt unnatural and all Lilith could relate it to was being packed in a can like sardines. That had been a PokeEarth food, something that had become even more sparse and rare as humanity progressed on Mi-aro. It wasn't as if the citizens of Mi-aro had any way to contact the few still alive on PokeEarth in a plea to bring basic necessities. Lilith couldn't care one way or another, having been raised on the seafood from Forever Ocean. The few times she had experienced seafood from PokeEarth had left her gagging. The amount of salt almost turned her stomach and she had to politely decline the rest of the meal, choosing instead to offend the host on ground of being full as opposed to denying her offer for food.
Lilith had received a message on her X-Gear a day prior from her mother, saying a letter had arrived from her without a return address. Although her mother claimed she hadn't opened it, Lilith easily guessed her mother may have peeked as she dropped subtly hints about what exactly was within the letter. It had taken Lilith a full day to return home from her job escorting a client from Port City to New Pallet. Although she had managed to avoid pokemon on the journey home, a sudden violent evening storm had kept her holed up on route one for the night.
Upon arriving at home, Lilith had scanned the letter. The actual envelope was crisp and white, very carefully glued back together as if it hadn't been open and read by a curious mother. Her name and address was scrawled in curly print in the center, the return address missing. From past experience, this was usually how The Emissary got in contact with her when she had a mission. Lilith found herself rubbing her temples as she opened the letter, not yet ready to return to work for The Emissary but not exactly sure how she could tell The Ambassador after her generous gift of starter pokemon.
It was quite unexpected to find the letter had no mission listed. It simply stated a time and place in which Lilith should arrive. It seemed strange, but Lilith had found that The Ambassador had an odd way of doing things and questioning it led to more questions than answers. So here Lilith was, in the most crowded area in Port City. The letter had told her to meet at a small food stand on the West side of the market. This area was more posh, if one could call it that. Luxury items lined the stands as opposed to the necessities. Lilith felt out of place, turning her nose up at those who looked down at her. Granted, her gothic PokeEarth-inspired Lolita fashion managed to draw eyes wherever she went.
The food stand wasn't hard to find. Despite working out of a gutted shed-like structure, it seemed to have quite the crowd around it. Lilith scanned the area, still unsure of who exactly she would be meeting. When she found no one to stand out, Lilith walked over to one of the small wooden tables outside the makeshift building and sat down. Folding long willowy legs, Lilith rest her chin on her hand and closed her eyes. It was now that she began to regret leaving Vesper and Ignis back at her mother's place. At least she could entertain herself with their antics as she waited for her mysterious guest.
As her mind wandered, she almost shot out of her skin when a finger tapped her shoulder. The woman swung around, fighting instincts already kicking it. Although she knew she was in a market filled with people, her mind quickly inserted a violent feral tapping her shoulder as a courtesy before eating her. She put down her fists when her eyes met with a younger man in a white lab coat. He had shaggy brown hair and glasses balanced on a large hook nose. "Ah, Miss Bellerose?" The man questioned, holding his hands out before him in a classic 'I surrender' pose.
"I was told I'd find you here." He continued after Lilith gave a tentative nod, "Ms. Nguyen sent me here with a present for you. She said you'd know what to do with it." He said, rummaging around in a pack slung over his shoulder that Lilith hadn't noticed in her haste prior. He gently pulled forth a white with green speckled egg, holding it out for Lilith to take. "Oh yeah, a note too." He said, withdrawing his hands as Lilith took the offered item. He quickly passed the woman the letter with a nod. "Well, I'll be off now. Nice um... chatting with you." He finally said, squirming under Lilith's wondering gaze. He turned on his heels and vanished quickly into the crowd.
Lilith sat there dumb founded, the egg in her black clad hands. Lilith pulled one of the spare pokeballs she kept hidden in the small purse around her shoulder. Tapping the red and white sphere to the egg, Lilith closed her eyes as the flash of red light consumed the object. Her next course of action was reading the letter, marked with the small curly writing of envelope. Inside was a single sentence, "Don't drop it."
Lilith shook her head, a smile creeping across her face. The Ambassador certainly did have an odd sense of humor. With the egg safety contained with a pokeball, Lilith headed off for home.
