~Strange sounds have been heard outside of New Pallet, The Ambassador urges trainers to be ready in case of an attack~
Summer is kicking in Port City! The temperature averages about 78°F (25°C) with a bit more rain than usual. Thunderstorms pop up every once in awhile, but overall, the sun is shining, the water's warm, and it looks like it'll be a great summer for the colonies.

He still needed that goddamn shower, but it was obvious he was not going to get one anytime soon. leaving pallet almost as soon as he had arrived, the man had to paused just outside of town to catch his breath. he was out of shape, and he did not know that signing up as an explorer meant so much traveling. go here, go there. do this, do that. he wanted to go home or to some inn and just collapse into bed. there was nothing he wanted more... other than to find a better way to carry this egg. he felt front heavy, and it was very uncomfortable. he liked having a single strap on his right, not both straps and everything in front. how did women deal with this? he would ask mother, but he was afraid that would spark 'the talk' with her. he did not need to go through that again. once was enough.
"mudslide valley. mud. great." he grumbled to himself as he began walking once more, checking to make sure that he didn't step in anything he shouldn't and to make sure that the nincada hadn't fallen off. while he was sure the bug would love the dirt, he did not want to lose the bug in the mud. he might never see him again. why do i care, again? ahg, i must be getting too accustomed to them. well, the nincada was already attached to his arm without any sign of letting go. his arm will feel too light on the day the nincada does decide to let go.
he was released from his thoughts as his steps began to sink into the ground as the soil below grew softer. "ah, we must be here already." he glanced down to the buneary who did not seem pleased in the slightest that they were walking through mud. "you could have stayed in new pallet," but then he would have been left alone with an egg.. erm, two eggs. red eyes searched the area as he tried not to get his feet stuck in the mud while he walked. let's see... where did temptest go? it should be pretty obvious if she still had her ponyta out.
"Damn it Feathers!" Yuuki heard the call from afar, behind a trove of Spiny-Leaved Bushes. The trainer, who must've been on her knees, stood up with her hand in her hair. Eyes full of irritation, the woman pulled out a pokeball and released the familiar Chespin. She muttered some words to the Pokemon then who jumped into the bushes of death.
Just as the Pokemon ducked into the bush, Tempi noticed her Researcher comrade. Her aggravated countenance quickly flipped to a joyful expression as she waved the trainer to her location. Since Yuuki had last seen her, she had equipped tall, leather boots, and a light-leather poncho that honestly looked a bit ridiculous. Her red hair was pulled into a messy bun at the crown of her head, but she didn't seem too apologetic for her looks.
"Have you ever gotten mud in your hair before? It's hell trying to get out." Her eyes flitted to the bush where Rory was crawling backwards with a blue creature in his grasp. With a sigh she elaborated to Yuuki, "That's a Ducklett I caught not too long ago. I let it out to help scout the area, but it saw this bush and went for the Peppips inside." She paused for a moment as she pondered, "Or maybe he was just trying to escape!" A giggle escaped the girl as the duck was finally pulled out of the bush, covered in tiny needles it sat with its wings crossed. It was obviously not yet tamed.
Tempi scanned the surrounding before moving to the mission, "I haven't seen any Grimer here. And I'm kind of confused as to why the professor thinks there are any on Mi-aro period. Am I right?" She brought her wrist in front of her and pressed a few buttons on the X-gear that wrapped around it. A small holo screen with words popped out, it had a similar format to a Data Log. Some words slipped out of the girl's mouth as she scanned, "Sea bed... Pollution... Human activity.." It made sense of course, human's accidentally created Grimer with their pollution of the ocean, but there were new laws that prohibited harming the ecosystem here, plus, humans simply haven't been on the planet long enough to incite the creation of a new species.
Chespin had since bounced over to Buneary, it chattered to the bunny who still seemed to have no interest in a conversation, but it continued without being discouraged! Until it saw a lump of mud move that is. "PI!" the Pokemon piped as it hopped into front of the bunny with its arms stretched to keep it out of harms way.
The lump quickly slid under the Mercenary and ballooned up until she fell to the ground. "What!? What was that!?" she squealed as the object began to solidify into an oozy glob of mud. Was that.. was that a Pokemon?
Gargles came from the creature as it formed. Large white eyes with teeny pupils appeared, followed by a huge mouth and arms. It zoomed its focus on Yukki and began to.. drool?
Well, they had certainly stumbled onto something, whatever it was.

oh dear. what was that woman getting herself into? at the sudden shout, his head whipped in the direction of the voice, red eyes scanning the area until he catch a familiar splotch of color getting up from a bush. what was she doing down there? he soon got his answer after she noticed him, and he gave a meek wave in return. the man slowly made his way over to the bush that the woman had just appeared behind, flinching as her chespin appeared with a ducklett. oh, he was beginning to resent those things after being attacked by three. the encounter itself happened far too fast with omurice taking them down before he knew it. yet, this one? hopefully it was originally part of that small flock.
at the mention of the grimer, yuuki finally opened his mouth. ah, something he was more knowledgeable on. kind of. er, book-wise. "there's always the chance. they could have been brought over by trainers and then released into the wild. introduction into an area where they are meant to be by humans is not uncommon." it was how a lot of pokemon became widespread, after all. if his history book was correct, that was how a lot of pokemon came to unova generations ago. his attention was drawn away by furious thumping, and his eyes landed on a very annoyed buneary pounding his foot against the ground, causing more of a slapping sound due to the mud. however, annoyance grew to alarm as the ground began to move and... oh, dear, tempest. please don't splash mud around like that.
yuuki watched as the mud bubbled and shifted, and the initial shock was quickly wiped away and replaced by pure fascination. awe was placed on his face as he crouched down, watching as eyes formed in the mud. "what a find!" he chimed, digging around the egg in his bag to pull out his x-gear. the smart thing to do would be to leave it on his wrist, but then the nincada might get jealous. ahem. pulling the device out, he quickly switch it to its camera capabilities, snapping pictures of the mud as it formed. "fascinating! i do believe this is a grimer! a sub-species, perhaps?" he did not let his eyes leave the strange creature's features, not did he seem the slightest bit uncomfortable as the pokemon began to drool.
"perhaps grimer are native to this land... our grimer are the product of pollution, yet this land seems to have an abundance of mud rather than pollution. is it possible for life to be made from mud instead of noxious gases?" obviously, the proof was right in front of him. he was beginning to enjoy this little quest. "if it really is made of mud instead of sludge... that means a difference in scent," especially considering they were not assaulted by the smell of rotting everything upon entering mudslide valley, "and possibly safe to touch." as if to try and prove his assumptions purely based on a physical level, the man reached a pale hand towards the mud creature, beckoning with a twitch inward from the tips of his fingers.
the buneary was not happy about this, and he expressed this through more alarm thumps while keeping his glare on the scene before him, ready to spring into action if needed. this man was going to end up harming the egg, and he would not stand for it!

Tempi gagged a little a she saw the creature form, and had to hold herself began from completely vomiting as she got a whiff of the creature. The smell wasn't a rotted quality that was formed by man-made destruction, but instead a very natural stink. It was similar to manure.
As the Researcher flashed pictures the creature gargled in confusion. What what that pale Pokemon doing? Its droopy eyes narrowed, perhaps it was planning to attack!? Well it would get the first strike!
A bubble or two appeared on the surface of the mud as Grimer quickly shrunk back into the Earth. It disappeared for a moment before it began to reform directly beneath Yuuki. The creature shot its arm out in an attempt to strike the trainer's chin from below, but was blocked by an anticipating Nincada. His arm shield was also apparently a chin guard, nice to know eh? Unfortunately, after the Nincada was struck by the creature it was absorbed into its sticky arm.
"Grim ug el brigl gulg," it slurred before it slid back to its original place between the two trainers. Nincada squealed as he squirmed in the Grimer's muddy hold, it was completely stuck!
At this point, the Researcher would normally leave things to their bodyguard, but one Tempest was too enthralled - disgusted - to make a move, same as her Pokemon party.
What now Yuuki? You're the smart one!

was it obvious that he hadn't been very alert to the surroundings around him? he was more focused on the pile of mud before him that he hadn't thought to breathe through his nose or look at the disgusted faces on his travel companions. however, he blinked in confusion the moment he did bother breathing in through his nose. the air was quickly cut short so he could sniff instead of inhale, and his brow furrowed together. "maybe scat instead of mud?" lost in his own little world as he muttered to himself, he completely missed the grimer disappear before him. "maybe they could be used to fertilize fields? hm, but that would only be if they were safe to put in the fields. i'll need to take soil samples..." even the movement of the nincada went by unnoticed until it was too late.
the arm that shot out of the ground completely missed him or the back that was carrying the egg in front of his chest, yet his head was forced back, causing him to fall onto his butt as the nincada was stolen from him. surprise overtook his features as he sat there, blinking his way out of his daze. oh, his poor pants would really need to be washed now. he scratched at the back of his neck with his left arm before noticing that something was missing. his arm felt too light. he glanced down and around before he managed to catch sight of the brown grimer with some very familiar, small legs sticking out of its muddy body. "nincada?" he questioned. "fascinating! its body seems to be stickier than a normal grimer's!" at least, so he thought. this was his first experience seeing one outside of a book, and this was no textbook example of a grimer.
"bun!"
"gah!"
the man clutched at his head, cringing as he rubbed the tender spot from where a certain buneary whacked him with a flexed ear. "what was that for?!" he was only met with a furious glare from the hare before the buneary turned back towards the grimer. huh? oh, right... "uh, can i have the bug back? please?" like that would work. the buneary seemed hesitant to attack, not wanting to end up in the same situation as the nincada. "let's see... physical attacks probably won't work. erm, special or ranged? well, it's kind of the same." he quickly glanced at the hare before returning to the bug stuck in mud. buneary would be useless other than to lower stats. could he trust omurice? no, she might get stuck as well. but, metronome was his only hope... unless they managed to trap it, but he didn't have any trap making tools. and this is its territory. it knows the land better than i do.
he would have to do it. with a gulp, yuuki dug around the egg in his bag and pulled out the togepi's pokeball. he pressed the button and released the eggshell fairy who stretched and let out a yawn before looking around. the togepi quickly took notice of the grimer holding onto the nincada, and she let out a cheerful prrrri! waving her short arms up and down while jumping in greeting. before the man could say anything, she took to running laps around the grimer, giggling and squealing. she only paused once to blow kisses at the grimer, momentarily distracting herself as hearts formed in the air and headed towards the pile of sludge. it was almost as if she didn't even know she was using a move. something good or bad happens? wave arms around. wanna show some affection? blow kisses. it was a natural response; she just did not know how to do it without attacking. ah, well, i suppose this is for the best.
"prrrrrri!" omurice giggled as she returned to her dance around the grimer.
Grimer did its best to keep up with the Togepi that circled it. It spun in place to try and keep its eyes on the baby, but was completely lost by the time she released her kiss of death. I mean confusion. The heart popped like a bubble on the mutant's head, which caused its eyes to cross. It took another moment, but soon the Pokemon had completely forgot what it was doing, it flung its arm back in Tempi's direction, Nincada flew with, and eventually out of it, landing safely on the woman's chest.
Without awareness of what it was actually doing at this point, Grimer flung its other arm at Togepi. Without hesitation, Buneary flew to cover the baby, bracing himself for the strike. But the strike didn't come. Well, it did, but someone else had taken the hit for him. Chespin. Of course, this came as more of a problem for Grimer. The Feral's hands once again seemed to absorb the Pokemon it smacked, - was this an attack or simply because of its body's genetic makeup? - and in this case, it had taken hold of the hedgehog's head. Chespin flexed the spines on his head, sharpening them to a point where they were able penetrate through the Grimer's arm.
"Great thinking Rory! Now swivel!" Tempi called. She was now standing, covered in mud and holding the bug tightly in her arms. Without a second thought, the Domestic partner attempted to spin its body and managed to use its spikes as a blade that dismembered the Feral! With a fistpump Tempi encouraged her Pokemon, "Great job dude!"
The muddy hand plopped to the ground. But there seemed to be no reaction from the dripping creature. Its eyes stared blankly into the distance, and even stopped flailing around. Maybe this was the Researcher's chance to get close?

fascination and awe once more overtook the man at the events that unfolded. he could not focus on anything other than everything about the mutated grimer, and all causes for concern, such as a poor nincada or the danger he just put his togepi in, were pushed into the back of his mind. he managed to pull his hand away from the sore spot on his head, letting it drop down to its original resting place around the bag carrying the feral egg. his other hand was balled up except for his index finger which seemed to be 'writing' observations on his thigh, as if there was an invisible sheet of paper and his finger was the pen. they say that you remember more when you write it down, but he would have to do with air finger painting for now.
"do you think it's sticky hold?" he asked out of the blue, wide red eyes focused on the confused grimer made of dripping mud. he never once removed his gaze, not even to check on omurice, buneary, nincada, or the woman splashed with mud. "it's definitely better than poison touch, but no records ever said that a pokemon could get caught in its hold. items? yes. pokemon? ... apparently yes!" now he was just blabbering to himself, but he seemed to become more aware of his surroundings as the chespin managed to temporarily cut off the gimer's arm. yuuki shuffled forwards, carefully and skillfully keeping the bag with the egg pinned between his chest, legs, and the single arm that wrapped around the material. he ignored the sludge on the ground, how it caked the hand that helped push him forwards or how his feet sunk into the ground. he had been so worried over his hygiene earlier, and now he had no care in the world.
"tempest, do you think we could capture this one and send it to the lab for further study?" not once did he break his gaze away from the brown grimer, inching closer until he was close enough to fully smell the grimer's stench. unlike that of a normal grimer, the smell was much easier to grow accustomed to, and he soon found himself nose blind. as long as he didn't catch a wiff of fresh air, he should be fine against the smell. the man reached out before hesitating and changing the target of his hand. he lowered his hand to the ground where the arm had fallen and, for the lack of a better term, melted. he dipped his index and middle fingers in the leftover mud before bringing his hand back up with the mud as it slowly slid down his fingers, rubbing the pads of his fingers against his thumb to check the texture.
"It's not nearly as rubbery as the average grimer. perhaps because it's made of dirt instead of poison? hm... it could be the sticky hold, instead. what it lacks in elasticity, it makes up in stickiness?" dirt instead of poison... he furrowed his brow, tilted his head, and spoke once more. "... does that mean it's a ground type?"
Tempest raised a brow, "I suppose.. If that's what you want..." She took a moment to ponder how she would go about the attack. It would probably be best if Yuuki caught the Pokemon so he could study it, plus, she didn't want to be anywhere near the ball of.. whatever it was. Her hand hesitantly reached for her Ponyta's pokeball, but she knew how the horse hated the mud. The poor baby refused to go into the valley without the protection of his pokeball.
"... does that mean it's a ground type?"
She snapped her fingers as she hatched a plan. Physical attacks didn't seem to work well against the Feral other than Chespin's disarm - heh - so she would have to use special attacks. But the only Pokemon in her party that had those were Ponyta and... Her eyes shot mischievously at her own Feral who pouted beside her with his wings crossed.
Tempi knew that he wouldn't understand her commands, nor would he use them even if he did. Geez these things were pretty useless huh? So, she recklessly grabbed the duck from behind and pointed him in the Grimer's direction. Her eyes had a humourous mania to them as she shouted, "Feathers, use Water Gun!"
In a struggle to be released from the woman, the Pokemon did indeed start spouting water from its beak, and thanks to Tempi's lovely aim, the water struck Grimer dead on. "Hah!" She scratched the duck behind its wings and offered him a Corka treat. A surprised expression crossed his countenance, but he succumbed and took the meal. It seemed Tempi was a fan of positive reinforcement. Someone should really document the different strategies of taming Feral - but anyways.
Once again, the Feral's expression didn't change upon being struck. In fact, the water seemed to be absorbed into the creature's own body. It started to drip more until it sunk completely into the ground. The team could finally start seeing a difference between Grimer and the mud, which was just a dark, thin outline. Its body seemed to grasp at everyone's feet. Chespin immediately attempted to jump from the hold but ended up being pulled back into a faceplant. Buneary on the other hand was able to move with Omurice, albeit very slow.
So water didn't work either... Tempi began to flush. She was completely out of ideas. If the Grimer was ground type, then Ponyta would certainly be no use, but if the Ducklett was that uneffective, she was pretty much out of options as Chespin would most likely just get stuck.
"Yuuki? Maybe you should just try to throw a pokeball at it? None of my Pokemon can fight this thing!"

He watched in silence as the woman grabbed her duck and used it like a plastic water gun that children used to enjoy so much. hm, perhaps someone should make one based off of a ducklett or other water type pokemon. it would certainly profit, even if adults would have absolutely no use for it. but, at least the children would be happy. wait, this was not the time to be thinking of something so strange and out of the blue. after all, the mud based grimer was sinking into the ground, becoming more of the consistency of muddy water than a glob of mud. he did not seem even the slightest bit bothered as the watery mud pooled around his feet and made a tight hold. he needed a shower, anyway. he would just have to do the laundry at the same time. oh, but it was going to take quite a while to wash off all the caked on mud.
adjusting the egg between his legs and his chest, he wiped off the mud on his fingers on the material of his pants, smearing it until his fingers were as dry as he could get them. he then dug through his bag around the egg within, searching for his supply of empty pokeballs. once more he was reminded that he needed to use them on the buneary and nincada, but he would just have to do that later. "aha!" he chimed as he pulled one out, pressing the button in the middle to expand the red and white sphere. red eyes glanced at the slouching, slippery mud beneath, glad that it at least had a face. he would look dumb throwing a pokeball at the ground otherwise. "er," he paused, hovering the pokeball over the ground. "do i just... touch it?" was it obvious he had never actually caught a pokemon before? well, there was only one way to find out how to do this, and that was to drop it! releasing his hold on the pokeball, he watched as it dropped down into the darker mud.
"I..." Tempi momentarily shared in Yuuki's confusion. How did one catch a puddle of mud? Was that a thing you could do? "Um.. maybe just-"
Then Yuuki dropped the ball.
"Yeah.. that."
As the capsule opened, a white flash spread across the ground, absorbing the mud that was pooled over a five foot radius. The trainers' Pokemon immediately felt the release of their feet from the muddy hold and watched closely as the the device plopped into the existing mud and shook.
Once... Twice..... Thrice..........
Ding.
A sigh of relief escaped Tempi. Phew, good thing that's over with. And how lucky they were to have not run into any huge groups or anything of that sort. At that moment, both trainers' X-gear's began to vibrate as screams sounded from atop the Pallet hill to the west.
-A swarm of Feral Spinarak have invaded New Pallet. All trainers immediately report to the vicinity and protect civilians at any and all costs-
The voice of the Ambassador rang. Without hesitation, Tempi grabbed a pokeball and released her Ponyta. "Sorry Yuuki, we've gotta go," she took a moment to look over his Pokemon team, an uncontrollable baby, a sassy Feral Buneary, a gross new mud ball that they know almost nothing of, and... didn't he have another? Oh! And the sad little bug that was still attached to her.
"Actually... Maybe you should stay here and continue studying," she recovered sheepishly. There was no way Yuuki would be any help against a group of spiders. Not that she could stop him from going, but she at least needed to revoke her own invitation so if he died it wouldn't be under her watch.
With that, she withdrew the Ducklett and slung herself onto the restless Ponyta. The two trotted to the Researcher to drop off the Nincada then galloped off towards the village. Chespin gave Buneary a warm look before rolling into a ball to follow his party.
Well, now he was alone. Albeit with an almost full party of Pokemon. There was still plenty for the young trainer to do in the Mud Valley. Search for new Pokemon, maybe train a little. Of course, he had a new specimen now so he could always study it. Of course, he could go back to New pallet, but it's doubtful that he'd be much safer than he was in the valley.
