Nadia Banes
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Orientation: Demisexual
Profession: Survivor
Occupation: Explorer
Mentor: Ambassador
Appearance:
Short and sturdy, Nadia only reaches to five foot five inches. She’s lithely muscled, a runner who has some knowledge of how to kick anyone’s ass – for those times when running away isn’t an option. Nadia’s proud of the way she looks, with her body made fit through exercise and able to take whatever the world throws at her. Her skin is a ruddy tan, peppered with freckles and scars.
Nadia keeps her wavy red-brown hair long enough to tie back, preferring to do little else with it. Her eyes are green and round, giving her a younger look complimented by a full mouth that always wants to smile, even if it doesn’t often these days.
Everyday Clothes:
Still used to traveling across Earth, Nadia has a (sensible) habit of layering clothing, in case something should happen. All of her clothing is worn and patched, though some of the pieces are newer than others. Typically, she wears leather pants and boots, a shirt, and a wool sweater, topped by her much-loved leather jacket, which used to be her mother’s. Of course, this changes depending on the weather, and she’ll either store pieces in her bag or layer up more. Her clothing colors tend to be muted, though she has a few bright pieces – a scarf, gloves.
Formal Garbs:*
Not something Nadia has had the money, time, or inclination to buy – the best she can do is put her least scuffed-up jacket on over her normal clothing
Pack:
A dependable beat-up backpack from earth, which has a multitude of pockets and can strap across her chest when things get tough
Personality:
Nadia has built up walls around her soft center, injured by the attack on her family. She’s never been alone in her entire life, and now her entire family is gone. She finds herself anxious around other people, wary around large groups even if she still can’t bear to see anyone in pain or trouble. Nadia thrives on helping other people, but for now she’d rather avoid others if she can.
You’ll rarely find someone more loyal than Nadia. Once she’s dedicated herself, that’s it. She’ll do anything for her people, but it’s tough to earn her loyalty and respect. She’ll still help others, but her practicality kicks in if her loyalty isn’t assured. Nadia’s just as dedicated to her goals – nothing gets in her way of accomplishing what she’s set her sights on. She does know when it’s time to retreat and regroup, though; she’d rather accomplish something the second time trying rather than die the first.
She has a quiet and sturdy presence, and prefers to remain unruffled in the face of stress. If something can make her laugh or smile, however, Nadia is free with her joy, though it’s usually quiet happiness. A bit sad nowadays, she nevertheless considers herself a content person at heart. She’s a realistic optimist, and considers that outlook quite practical, something she values. Best to be practical and realistic, but if one lacks hope then there’s nothing worth doing.
A quick thinker who prefers to work with her hands, Nadia’s strengths lie in more practical arenas than the pure theoretical. Book learning doesn’t suit her, but that’s not to say she’s unintelligent, just kinesthetic. She’s not one to freeze in the face of danger, and has full trust in her body being able to do what she needs. When fighting she uses her small size and agility, and would rather run away if she can, but won’t back down if that’s not an option.
Nothing makes Nadia happier than the open air and being on the move, where everything bad seems far behind her. She becomes snappish when inside or in one spot for too long, itching out of her skin. That being said, Nadia does her best not to let everyone know about her discomfort. She is a calm, serene breeze – albeit one who occasionally twitches and glances at the walls. It takes a while for her disquiet to become obvious, however, and she does her best to avoid letting on.

Backstory:
The world was shit, but that didn’t stop Adora Banes from traveling the world, helping those in need. She had her mother’s open heart, tempered by the pragmatism that disaster gave many of her generation. When the portal opened, she returned to Johto to find her mother, Celia – only to meet the elderly woman on the road. Unfortunately for Adora, her mother was a stubborn woman, who would not hear of going through the portal when there were still people and pokemon to help. Unfortunately for Celia, her daughter was also a stubborn woman, who would not hear of going through without her mother. So the pair traveled, helping those in need and sending people on their way to the portal when they could. They gathered a group around them, and a few years after the portal opened, Adora had a child.
Nadia grew up loved, learning from an ever-changing band of people and pokemon, but always with her mother or grandmother close by, their pokemon watching her. First aid, fighting, fishing – you name it as good for survival, and Nadia learned some part of it growing up. She was a happy child, pleased with her family’s journey to help people. Unfortunately, not everyone left on earth shared those same intentions, and Nadia’s family was attacked during a rare time when they had no group. It was her grandmother, bleeding-heart and all, who ended the fight, though not without great cost – only Nadia, her mother, and her mother’s Dusknoir, Ankh, survived in any condition to travel. Adora Banes was heavily injured, but her Dusknoir carried her and teenaged Nadia to the portal and into Mi-aro.
The adjustment period was rough for Nadia; her mother never truly recovered from her devastating loss and injuries, and Nadia was anxious in the strange new world. They were helped by friendly neighbors, strangers who only made the nervous teen more uneasy. Claustrophobia and nightmares racked the fifteen year old, who often slept outside their small house. At her ill mother’s urging, Nadia began to attend class sessions at the lab in Port City, which gave her something to do. Knowing that charity couldn’t last forever, Nadia began to work odd jobs in the city for whoever and however long she could to support herself and her mother. She’s even been to New Pallet a time or two, accompanied by Ankh the Dusknoir.
Years have gone by, and Nadia settled as much as she could, adjusting to the new life in Port City. However, her mother recently died, followed by her Dusknoir companion, leaving Nadia devastated and more claustrophobic than ever. With nothing else holding her back, and her mother’s last wishes in her ears, Nadia wants to see this brave new world her family never got to see, free of fire and desolation.
