Richard Lancelot Garris
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Orientation: Believes Heterosexual
Profession: Travelling Merchant
Occupation: Gatherer
Mentor: Anita Nguyen
Appearance:
Richard takes great pride in his appearance as he never knows when he will encounter his soul mate. His beard is always trimmed and his hair is normally held back in a neat ponytail when long enough. He is well built due to working at his family’s shop he was in charge of the heavy lifting. On occasion he may have verses of poems written on his arms or a “manly” symbol of love, such as a Celtic knot.
Everyday Clothes: Clothes make the man, is also another mantra that Richard follows. Never having left the city has spoiled this boy into thinking his nice outfit will always stay nice, even on a romantic quest for love. He often wears a passionate crimson long shirt that has a V-neck and three-quarter sleeves. His shirts reach about his mid thigh and sometimes have decorative inked designs around the hem that he had done himself. Tan or dark washed pants are worn underneath. Rarely does Richard wear any foot wear, but when he does it is often a simple sandal.
Formal Garbs:
Personality:
Fools Love: Richard is a romantic, to the point of it often being a hindrance to his better judgement. He believes in love at first sight, which is his motivation to become a traveling merchant in search of his one true love. He views the adventure as glamorous and with little to no hardship.
Active: Richard loves exercising and takes great pride in his body. He is often doing heavy lifting or running around town in the early mornings. This love for his body may have been spurred from the vain ideal of looking good, but it turned into a way to bond with his brothers.
Vain: Appearance is everything, as you do not know when you will meet your one true love. This is the mantra that Richard lives by. He knows much about fashion and keeping on top of the latest trend is a must. When he attempts something, looking good is the first priority. Often he does things to show off to a crowd and loves the attention.
Ambitious: With his romantic ideals, Richard often takes on large tasks. These often lead to success, but normally with a few set backs. He is very good at working through things, often feeling out the situation with his gut. Pair his ambition with his determination and you have an unstoppable force when he puts his mind to something.

Backstory: Richard grew up the youngest of five siblings. By the time his mother had him he was being raised more by his older sisters than by his parents. This wasn’t a bad thing. Richard thinks fondly of his old memories of tea parties or building castles in the backyard. He also remembers being taught how to read and write from old romance novels. As he got older and needed less supervision his eldest sister was sent away for an apprenticeship as a seamstress and his other sister started learning how to embroider clothing. Their mother saw great potential in being able to make clothing or alter pre-existing clothing and thought highly of the trade. This led to Richard’s initial take to fashion, as this was often the talk his sisters partook in. Over time he found he enjoy these discussions and often kept watch of upcoming trends for fun.
Richard also took a shining to drawing. His time alone without his older sisters was spent in the back of the shop sketching the passers by or inventory in an open box. At the age of 8 he was deemed old enough to help out in the shop. There was less and less time for drawing, but he was allowed to interact with the customers on occasion. He often flattered the ladies on their attire and took to discussions about fashion. His brothers’ picked up on his non-masculine behaviour and often bullied Richard about it.
Some days would end with Richard’s sketch book being dropped in the rain catcher “by accident” or tripping him when around the customers. His sisters were very supportive during this time, and he often sought refuge with visits to his eldest sister at her apprenticeship. Her advice was to stay true to himself and one day his soulmate would come to take him away from Port Town. Then she would give him an extra biscuit and send him on his way.
When Richard was 16 his brothers had found that their teasing hadn’t accomplished anything and seemed to focus their attention on the business more. They still avoided their little brother, but the bullying had stopped. Richard spent most of his time doing heavier lifting as his muscles had grown with him and attending to customers deliveries. On his days off he would roam the town square and sketch the people and secretly hoping to find the love of his life.
On a delivery day Richard was running late to give Mrs. Smith her weekly groceries, he saw her. The love of his life had just exited a building and was walking on the other side of the street. Her hair was amber red, her skin was sun kissed with freckles and her eyes were like looking at an emerald. Richard was awe struck. He was about to run after the girl, but he tripped and sent the groceries flying across the sidewalk. He steadied his heart as he repackaged the groceries, all the while sneaking glances of the ever fading back of his one true love.
Later on his return home from a very upset Mrs. Smith, he passed the building his true love had exited. The Emissary was spelt out in big bold letters above the automatic doors. Further investigation was halted due to the late hour, but the next day Richard would be there to learn that his love had started on her first adventure as a Mercenary for Anita Nguyen.
This was the start of Richard’s quest to find the love of his life.
