Data Logs
One of the Researcher's main duties is to write Data Logs. These logs are full of information gathered during experimentation or field research. Data Logs are fairly freeform and can be completed a number of different ways based on your character. For now we'll sort these into informal categories of When they are written, What they are written about, How they are written, and Why they are written.
When: Characters can take many different approaches to when they write their logs. This can be Before - After, Before - During - After, During - After, During, or After. So your character can write a hypothesis or summarize their current knowledge before heading into the field. They can take notes during the research, and finally, they analyze their data and enter the results.
What: Mi-aro is a vast new planet where almost everything is new or different in some way. Researchers are not tied down to any one subject because there is just so much out there that no one wants to be stuck on one little thing. Of course, if you want to then go right ahead! Here are some suggested subjects: Pokemon (Coloration, Diet Habits, Hidden Moves, New Species, Habitats, Social Habits, and other Mutations), Vegetation (New Species, Other uses, Hidden elements), Tech (Energy, Crystals, Inventions), Resources (Minerals, New Elements, Variances in known entities), etc. Now note, that other Professions can also use Data Logs to record things like new Recipes, Taming habits, Farming, Where to find the best whatever, anyone can use them. Trainers using the Finder and Changer skills will get the most use out of them.
How: Just like the other two, there are many different ways to record your data. There is no special format, so they can be written anyway the character sees fit. This means the log can be nothing but chicken scratch, or a fancy well-written scientific journal, completely up to the character. That being said, there are a few requirements. Each log needs a Title, everything should be Dated (either when the information was discovered or recorded), there should be a defined Subject, and some form of Evidence. Other than that, how Data Logs are written are completely up to the character.
Why: So what's the point in writing these logs anyway? Well, lots of new things are being seen, but few of them are being recorded. This means, if you discover something, it's nothing but rumor until you record it. When recorded in a Data Log, Oak will accept the information and broadcast it to the settlements to keep the colonies informed. Not only that, but the Laboratory pays Loggers quite handsomely which also makes this a great way to earn splurging money.
So now that you know how to write these babies, get to it trainers!!
