Liatris brushed her hair back behind her ear as she hesitated in front of the entrance to Rocket Headquarters. For as many years of her life that she had spent surrounded by Pokémon none had been her own. As a toddler it had been her mother's Persian that had tolerated the curious pull of her hands and in childhood it had been her father's Arcanine that trailed her from one end of their home to the other. Even as an adult it had always been the Pokémon of other trainers that she had tended after, but none had ever been her own. Nearly thirty-years-old, and she had never raised so much as even a Magikarp. Not that she had necessarily wanted one of her own though; Liatris had been more than content watching after the little ones of others. Why else would she have taken so long in even considering the thought that she might have one of her own?
She avoided the impulse to worry her lower lip knowing that if she broke the delicate skin...well, the wound might not be anything heavy but that would certainly do little good in stemming the blood that would stain her teeth and give whomever it was that stood past this door quite the scare. For years now her father had been pushing her towards picking up a starter of her own, but until this point she'd always been too busy to stop by these so often visited headquarters. Taking into consideration though that she was entertaining thoughts of expanding her small business it had only made sense that she finally take one of her own. Besides, she could not exactly deny that she had been wishing for someone that would stay with her in those quiet evenings after the trainers back for their Pokémon.
Her steps were silent as she flitted into the Rocket Headquarters after a calming breath. Liatris took first one glance this way, then that, before she approached the nearest person with a nervous but amiable smile. "Excuse me," she spoke politely, "I made an appointment here a few weeks ago about picking up a Pokémon." Greetings at the very least weren't all that hard for even a woman that had spent nearly the entirety cut off from people. She'd at least managed enough social interaction that making small talk wasn't particularly stressful. "I'm Liatris Allard."

The young man at the desk looked up as she introduced herself. "Liatris, huh?" He flipped through a few papers, then nodded. "Right, okay." He instructed her toward the appropriate room and went back to his desk work. Within a minute, Liatris would find herself staring at a door labeled 'Rocket Man'. Before she could do anything else, however, it opened. Standing in the doorway was a tall man whose features would very much argue the fact that he was actually pushing fifty. A blonde fauxhawk clashed a little with a black suit and blue tie, but perhaps not as much as one would expect. At seeing her, the man gave a wicked grin. "Ah, Liatris, right? You're a bit early- good girl."Turning to head back into a surprisingly small office, he nodded toward his desk where five PokeBalls were lined up perfectly, with a picture of a Pokemon in front of each ball. A pamphlet set on one back corner and a box on the other. "I'd just finished setting up for you."As he sat back in his chair, he gestured to the desk between them. "I got to thinking, my office is awfully small to be having a bunch of Pokemon running around it all at once. So I took the liberty of printing those out as a sort of preview. Figure you might have an idea what you want without needing to meet all of 'em and it won't get the hopes up of ones you're.. less interested in." Of course, Quercus or Anita might have insisted that a personal connection was often more important than a trainer's initial thoughts of a species- that identifying with an individual's personality could cause trainers to choose Pokemon they'd never considered prior. Mr. R wasn't into all that. He wasn't saying Pokemon weren't friends, just that that didn't mean they couldn't also be tools, and really damn effective ones. That's why all his little merchants were always given practical options. Upon surveying the pictures, Liatris would see the following: "Few to help you around the daycare and a few to offer some protection for you and the business are my choices," he explained perhaps a bit too concisely. "Middle one's a Jollaby, by the way. Kangaskhan's baby. I seem to get a lot of questions about that one." Gesturing toward the pamphlet, he explained, "You can also check Oak's general stock, of course. Feel free to let out any you're interested in or let me know if you want one out of there."----- (Don't forget to put the link to Liatris's bio under Edit Profile -> Personal. :3)

Liatris did the best that she could to not startle when the door that she had been directed to lurched open before she had even formed a fist with her hand to knock. On a reflex her lips curved into a polite smile, but it did little to cloak the nervous edge in her eyes as she glanced a one-over of the notorious Rocket Man. He had been mentioned to her on occasion by this Trainer here and that Trainer there, but until this point he'd always been a vague subject. To be quite honest, he wasn't exactly what she had been expecting. "It's a pleasure," she commented as she followed after him into the unexpectedly small office. Liatris had thought that a laboratory might stand behind the door or a lavish office of some sorts as she assumed the Embassy had. This though was almost...homely compared to the image that she had had in her mind.
It had been years since anyone had ever referred to her as girl, but as she stood in front of his desk with her hands folded politely she almost felt like a child of sixteen again. She hadn't been able to tear her gaze away from the Pokéballs laid out on his desk from the moment she had stepped into the room for more than a few seconds before returning. It was...enthralling to be here and even though she was a woman nearing thirty it was hard to deny the butterflies that unsettled her stomach. She wasn't honestly too sure if she was excited or nervous. His words were barely noted to her distracted mind as she identified each of the labels by their species. It took her a moment to even realize he had been speaking, and she blinked after a lingering silence before flushing quickly. "That's perfectly reasonable."
Her gaze flickered back to the five Pokéballs, considering each species, but she found herself torn on what Mr. R had stated earlier. True, it did rather bother her as a carer to think of the disappointment the other four might experience to not be singled out, but on the other hand in her line of business emotional connections were extremely important. Her partner would be required to not only help her out with daily chores, but also in handling some of the younger Pokémon. If she picked one with little patience for the Little Ones it wouldn't bode very well for the future. Not quite sure how to phrase this though she picked up the pamphlet instead to browse for a quiet moment.
The obvious choice would be to pick the Audino. They were notorious for their skills in healing, and there had yet to be a day that she had met one of an ill temper. On the other hand...Liatris couldn't help but to glance back at the Jollaby. There weren't all that many scrapes and bruises at her daycare and really most of them were her own injuries that she had learned to deal with on her own. Seeing as how she left the settlement so little the protection wasn't something necessary either. After a moment she steeled her courage and spoke up, "I don't suppose there's any way that I could meet each of them...individually rather than all at once?" Her smile became sheepish. "And maybe an Aquaera as well if it's not too much trouble?" This was a rather heavy decision and she wanted to make sure she picked the right one both for her daycare and for herself.

Mr R blinked at this request and sat quietly for just a second, but then shrugged. "I don't see why not. Just let 'em out one by one." That would be less crowded anyway. As he said this, he began fingering a strange earring (if it could be called a 'ring'), and a few moments later a holographic interface appeared between the man and Liatris, seemingly projected from the device. A cursor moved through a few options before the interface disappeared and a PokeBall materialized on his desk, his hand then leaving his ear. That was one crazy-specialized X-Gear.
Smirking at this minor accomplishment, he pushed the new ball forward to sit near the others; this one was clearly marked with a blue-and-beige teardrop shaped marking on the ball. "One Aquaera, as requested. Go ahead and take your time, I don't have another appointment until after lunch." Which wasn't to say he wouldn't go right back to work while she went through her options if she took too terribly long, but he could afford the momentary distraction. Truth be told, he really loved this part of his job.

Though she had been nothing but genuinely polite in her smiles and in her small mannerisms with perhaps just a touch of timidness there was no denying that Liatris lit up a bit at the agreement. To be quite honest, she'd been expecting perhaps a sigh of annoyance or a gentle reminder that he was a busy man with a filled schedule. His reputation was, after all, nothing short of intimidating if Trainers were to be believed. "Thank you." Her attention turned then to the five Pokéballs laid out upon the table though she could not deny a brief sense of confusion when she saw his hand reaching for his ear. Chalking it down to nothing more than an idle habit she reached forward to release the Audino from its' Pokéball.
"Audino, Jollaby, Sewaddle, and then Aquaera." To be quite honest, she wasn't comfortably with the thought of a fighting-type Pokémon which immediately limited her options down to four. She blinked in alarm though when she found herself staring at a projected interface, her eyes wide as it vanished as quickly as it had come. There was no denying that she was impressed when moments later a new Pokéball sat where one had not been before. Not with an X-Gear herself, she had watched her father and mother both use one as a child and knew his to be an extremely special piece of equipment to accomplish what it had. Having already given a verbal thanks to Mr. R already though she only offered a more lax smile and a nod of the head.
Methodically Liatris released and returned each of the Pokémon from their Pokéballs as she had named them in her murmured list, and for each she knelt down with a soft smile and took genuine care in introducing herself. Countless years spent as a carer to Pokémon and she had to admit that one of her favorite moments in the job was that first moment of introduction. It was a reminder of sorts that given time she would come to be responsible for the well-being and happiness of those that passed through her doors, and to be quite honest there was a comfort in knowing that she was perfectly capable of something such as that. Her decision though waited until she had returned Aquaera to its' Pokéball as well and she stood back at her full height with a gentle clearing of the throat and relaxed shoulders.

Audino watched curiously as Mr. R summoned another PokeBall. When the man noticed him, he turned to the Pokemon. "Ah. This little lady is the trainer I told you all about. She wanted to meet each of you one on one before making up her mind." The Audino gave an 'aaahh' sort of expression, then nodded happily. Mr. R would continue to explain this each time a Pokemon was released.
The Audino seemed rather energetic, perhaps a little fiesty. He seemed inquisitive or perhaps a little adventurous, the sort of Pokemon who'd love to be out discovering, though that didn't necessarily mean it was the only thing he'd be happy doing.
Jollaby seemed rather upbeat. She was clearly bursting with life, but seemed calmer about it than the Audino. Perhaps this was due to her very likely being the oldest of the options, what with many Pokemon being ready to go straight out of the egg while Jollaby tended to stick with their mothers for a long while. Either way, she seemed rather friendly and pleased to meet the trainer.
Sewaddle was a bit less enthusiastic. It was by far the calmest of the four, but perhaps veering a bit toward lazy. That saying, given its larval state, perhaps it would be more energetic when it evolved? And it would evolve soonest of the lot. It would be up to Liatris to decide if she wanted that risk. That said, it was very sweet.
Finally, Aquaera was by far the most go-getter of the bunch-- in a bit of an aggressive way. It didn't seem like a bully by any means, but would perhaps be better suited for that 'body guard' type role Mr. R had mentioned than playing with the littlest little ones. For those that enjoyed some rough-housing, it would probably be right up their alley, though. Of course there was also the relative mystery of its evolution, which could be seen as alluring or risky depending on the person.
When the last Pokemon was back in its ball, the businessman asked, "So what do you think? If you're still debating, anything I can do to help?"

Liatris folded her arms, worrying her bottom lip before quickly reminding herself that if she bit too hard she might end up with a cut in the mouth that would leave a lingering taste of copper on her mouth for hours and releasing the soft flesh. After meeting with each of the Pokémon she had managed to narrow down her choices between the Jollaby and the Aquaera. The Audino, dearly as she had enjoyed his cheerfulness when they had greeted one another, was a tad too adventurous for her tastes. There was already enough to deal with what with the Poochyena that seemed determined to dig his way to freedom every time that he was left at her daycare. Sewaddle, in contrast, had been very sweet but a bit...lethargic and she worried about that. Certainly she wouldn't cause trouble, but it would be nice to have a spot of help around the center.
Jollaby on the other hand was as cheerful as the Audino had been, but in a more soothing manner. She had been friendly and open with the sweetest eyes that Liatris had ever seen on a Pokémon. Of the choices she was one of the few that she could see easily fitting into the daycare center. There was, however, a problem with evolution. To a woman such as herself it felt wrong to make an attempt to stop evolution if the time came for it came, but her home wasn't exactly outfitted to handle the massive size of a Kangaskhan. Towering at over seven feet tall on their hindquarters, she doubted that she'd be very happy in her one-story home.
Aquaera had left quite a lasting impression as well. She was concerned though as to how well he would get along with the other Pokémon left in her care. On the other hand, she didn't take him for too aggressive and it might be a bit helpful to some of the more...excitable Pokémon left in her care to have someone that could actually match their energy and their rough housing considering that she never could for fear of even the small injuries she might take from that. There was a problem with evolution though as well given that she had no idea what his line gave way too, but...after a moment she unfolded her arms and pointed towards his Pokéball, reasoning with herself that someone would surely take the Jollaby and others when the time came. "I think I'll go with the Aquaera, please." She smiled at Mr. R. "Does he already have a name or...?"

"Nope," said Mr. R, fiddling with his earpiece until all the PokeBalls except Aquaera's. "He's all yours to name." His attention turned then to the box at the corner of his desk as he slid it toward Liatris. "Go ahead and look through there and take any five items you'd like to help you out."
Inside, there were two Potions, a Spool of Thread, a Bedroll, a Light Sphere, a Canteen, a small clear box containing some Flint and Steel, a Full Heal, and-- was that a Saw? Exactly how all this fit in here so neatly would forever remain a mystery, but Liatris had plenty of room to rummage through and see everything just fine.
"Whatever you decide, you should also take these." He set three empty PokeBalls on the desk.
