So recently my sister-in-law found a charger which fits both the Gameboy Advance SP and the original Nintendo DS (before Lite and DSi, the one that had a game pack slot). So I charged my DS and checked out my old GBA games.
I found out there were only five Pokemon on Ruby that I cared much about bringing up! So I figured I'd Pal Park them and then I could do a pseudo-Nuzlocke run on Ruby, yay! Fun! (I could never do 'proper' Nuzlocke because I hate even the idea, but with the stipulation that "dead" Pokemon go to graveyard boxes until the end of the game and you get to 'revive' them after the E4, and maybe a few extra rules like losses to your rival don't count because you're supposed to be friends and shouldn't be killing each other's Pokemon logically, etc, then yeah.)
But my DS had been dead so long it forgot its settings, which is apparently a thing that can happen. It booted up like a new system and made me set time and profile and such. As such, Pearl didn't recognize it and told me it would need to re-sync, and as such wouldn't be able to transfer for 24 hours. (Which, as Flora later pointed out to me, was a totally logical failsafe for people trying to get around the time restrictions on Pal Park by resetting their time. x'3 But yeh.)
So that was annoying. But today I go and "knows HM moves" ugh have to fix that. ...Actually, you know what? I need to transfer six Pokemon at a time and since I'm playing anyway, I should totally go catch a spare legendary! Whenever Pokemon Bank drops I can move it up to X and Wonder Trade it or put in on the GTS! Yeah!
So I look and hmmm, haven't seen Latios yet so I can't track him down.. Oh, I'll go get one of the Regis! Maybe Registeel. Yeah, that should be easy and not take too long!
......ahahahahahahahahaha.
So. I had to look up how to do the Regis again because I remembered that there was braille for clues but I can no longer read it (x'3 when 3rd gen was current I could for that very reason) and didn't remember what it said.
Oh. Oh that's right you need to do a thing to even open their caves. Okay well that's a minor inconvenience... right?
Okay it looks like I'll need Di-.. I don't have the TM for Dig, did I ever pick it up? Fly out to Fallarbor because I actually remembered that fine, okay cool girl gives me TM and I-- oh wow I forgot TMs used to be expendable ewww. Oh well I'll just have to remember that when I start new game, no big deal now.
And I'll need Surf, got that, Dive, have to get one of my dozen Horsea from scale-farming out of the box to teach it but okay. (x'3 One of those Horsea, btw, is named COCK, because questionmarks?? I saw it and laughed/wondered wtf. I used a different one for this though.)
And now I just.... uh.... what??? I... I need Relicanth and Wailmer? That can't.. be right.. That is absurdly complicated surely that's like part of an urban myth that got mixed into the-..... no. No that is actually a thing. ..WELP, Wailmer are common, but...
Uuuuuuggghh it took me a while to even find some underwater seaweed and Relicanth has a 5% spawn rate and I ran out of balls with the first one so I had to find ANOTHER and it took sooo loooong.
And I was just sitting there going man this is waaaayyy too much work for "one quick spare legendary".
So then I go to Pacifidlog and pull up a video of how to navigate the rapids so I don't have to trial and error through all that and it says-- wait. WaiLORD?? I double-check and, FUCK. I totally misread that.
FORTUNATELY, the Wailmer I'd caught was a whopping Lv45, well above what it needs to evolve. Okay.
And hey! I'm at Pacifidlog, so I can just head over to Sky Pillar! It'll even be super effective against the Claydol there, and--
I COULD HAVE JUST CAUGHT RAYQUAZA FOR ONE QUICK LEGEND INSTEAD OF ALL THIS BULLSHIT. OMFG.
So I'm like, WELP, I may as well catch it AND all three Regis since I've put in this effort.
I can't... find the entrance... This... man I know it wasn't this far over, I--
And suddenly.
It dawns on me.
It doesn't appear until you beat the Elite Four... and neither does the Regindary activation thing... and....
...O--oh my God.... I.... suddenly remember thinking that the PC list looked awfully short. It only had Lanette's PC and Player's PC. .....THE ONE IT WAS MISSING WAS HALL OF FAME, WASN'T IT...
I-- HAD NOT EVEN REALIZED... I NEVER BEAT THE ELITE FOUR ON THIS PLAYTHROUGH. OMF....
And now.. I am struggling on trying. Because my party is unbalanced as shit and several of them are underleveled. I knew I never took this Ruby run that seriously but I thought SURELY I'd.....
*SOBS IN A HEAP*
So now I'm probably gonna have to struggle through the E4 a few times using the losses to train my party until they can actually handle it. Then I'll get all four of those legends plus maaaybe Latios if I'm lucky and... idk.. Figure out three others to make two full sets of six.
I just.. this was supposed to take ten minutes not several days or more. ;-; Why,,,
