Kayla Deirde, "Dee", Scott
22 | Female | Bi-loving |
Researcher | Behavioral studies | Oak |
appearance
Dee hovers above most girls at a stunning 5 feet and 9 inches. Her soft hair renders a sky blue tone and is far too long for practicality, hanging to her waist line. She boasts a willowy frame, average of chest, and less so of curves. All long legs and arms, she seems to have mastered her shape despite the lankiness. Large eyes capture attention on her pale face, only a shade darker than her hair, but her lips hold their own- and are far more quick to smile. please remember to state your face claim if you are using one.

clothing
everyday Dee prizes comfort over taste. It's a rare day indeed if you see her outside of a t-shirt and shorts. Most of her jeans are no longer functional as such, being too torn up and full of holes, and have since been adjusted. They're not cut short with a pair of scissors, and mostly equal lengths. Of the many graphic T's she wears, you can normally find her in either a white shirt with a fishing squirtle on it's front, a lavender v-cut neck line with the words "Pair'a'docs" on the front and "Paradox" on the back, or even a cream colored tank top so old that you can ALMOST see through it. Covering up her feet to keep them from the pain of the terrain are a pair of combat boots, heavy and clunky, but well broken in and padded inside so she no longer gets blisters. All the way up her left arm is a black glove. It covers from finger tip to shoulder where it binds across her chest beneath her collar bones to keep it from slipping. On the opposite side, her right arm is adorned up to her elbow in all kinds of braided bracelets, lanyards, and string of all sorts. Dee has adjusted them to carry and tie up her pokeballs for easy access. | formal When formally presenting before a crowd, Dee will put on the only fancy clothing she has; a white button up blouse tucked into a tight black pencil skirt. Being tall, she wears matching black flats so as to not loom over people too much, and finally a lab coat over top of it all. It's more 'professional' looking. |
backpack
An incredibly spacious dual strap floral print pack is always, ALWAYS hanging over Dee's shoulders. This carries all necessities for her daily life as well as a couple of odd items including a normal yet pretty rock, and a little plastic Marill figurine.
personality
Kayla Deirdre Scott is, in a word, bubbly. In another, she's eccentric- very much so given her profession. Her actions sometimes seem to have no logical reasoning behind them, but no matter how turned about the ideas in her head get, she usually acts with purpose. Covered in mud? Camouflage! Grass-and-leaf hat? Forgot her umbrella! Standing stock still, wet laundry hanging from outstretched arms? Err... Well, uhm... There's probably a reason in there somewhere?
Dee grows uncomfortable whenever things get too serious or too quiet. The woman is laid back and tries to keep it that way. She gets a sort of awkward twinge when things start to get unnecessarily heavy. In such cases, she tries to lighten the mood, whether or not it works is another story. In emergencies, she manages to keep a level head and takes on a roll of active leadership should there be no other.
The one thing she can absolutely say she hates is her left arm. Beneath the glove she always wears is a mangled arm, scarred from a houndoom attack when she was much younger. In some places, the skin is taut and stretched, forever bruised. In others, she barely has any muscle or meat on the bone, making it painfully thin to look at. The image is easily akin to a shark attack. Any mention of the grotesque nature of her limb and she will instantly divert the conversation elsewhere. Thanks to the injuries, it has limited movement. The elbow doesn't fully bend, her pinky and ring finger can't bend without one another and are too weak to help hold anything, and she has few nerve endings left over the entirety of it. Because of this, her right hand is incredibly dexterous with far more practice in use.
Despite being lanky, she is surprisingly quick on her feet. In another life, she may have been a track runner, but in this, she's a scholar. Fast as she may be, she can't throw a hoppip as far as she can fall. There's no strength to be had.
Dee will go to extremes for her work, endangering her life sometimes. She will become so focused on a project that she will often forget to eat or sleep until her body disallows her any other thoughts but basic survival instincts. It's not hard to distract her from work, but it's near impossible to keep her attention off of it. Dee always goes back to her work.
The woman is a slob. Nothing is neat, nothing is organized, and her house looks like something out of the movie Twister when you go inside. There are papers and folders everywhere, each comprised of extensively detailed notes on pokemon.
Logical and book smart as she is, she's not very wise. Often she will come across as an air head. Don't let this fool you- if she's day dreaming, her mind is wrought with thought.

the backstory
When the portal opened, Dee Scott's mother was heavy with child. Trapped on PokeEarth until she was born, Dianna and Calvin Scott made the most of their time preparing for the trip across. Before the end, before the world was dead, and as far back as anyone can see, the Scotts have always been scientists and researchers. Dee's parents were no exception, blind to the world outside of their work and themselves. Every note they'd ever taken, what could be salvaged, traveled with them when they left for new lands.
However, even after Kayla's birth, her parents were hesitant to cross. Surely there was more left on this side? More to learn, more to study? Every passing day became harder to work with, the conflict of leaving heavy on their minds. The only escape was Dee. Since the day she could walk, her parents had her learning as much about pokemon as they could teach which was a fair amount. The little girl's mind was a sponge and she soaked it all up. Due to a declining population, Dee grew up with her parents and not much other contact with people, certainly no one her age.
It was only when her mother passed away due to a lingering disease that her father cut ties to PokeEarth, unable to stay in a world of so much loss when there was another option. He took with him his daughter and his work so that it could continue on on the other side. This was now seven years after Dee entered the world. She retained little memories from pokeEarth due to age making taking the portal to Mi-aro a simple task.
On the other side, after months of recovery from the depression of having lost a loved one, Calvin and Dee were able to find passion for life once more. For Dee, it was pokemon, and for her father, it was his daughter. Both became heavily immersed in this "new world", or rather, the pokemon in it. They were strange, mutated it seemed, and far more dangerous. This became painfully apparent when Dee was twelve and not a mile outside the settlement with her father, both studying. Neither had seen the houndoom coming, but Kayla sure felt it when it latched on. The muscular beast tossed her around like a rag doll, catching her arm each time to throw her again. By some small miracle, Calvin hacked at it with a machete until it was hesitant to continue and retreated to tend wounds.
Dee healed from the trauma and never lost her zeal for either pokemon or her research, but she developed an understandable fear of houndooms.
While house-bound, mending from the attack, her father pushed her to learn more. By seventeen, Dee was considered an ace. A pokedex had nothing on her, statistics and averages of pokemon from the other earth were forefront on her mind. What with her focuses on pokemon, she had very little knowledge of outside topics. Self defense, reading comprehension, bartering, it all suffered.
As useful as she was in the settlement, her long legs grew restless. Worries of the pokemon attack fresh in her mind, Dee, age 16, lusted for more information, and there was so little within the city she left for her. Daring new ambitions arose. Miss Scott decided to take her work on the road. There's no better place to learn than out in the field. Her father was hesitant to allow such a thing, but in the end bent to her wishes.
Now 22 years of age, Dee is a worthy adventurer. At every chance she gets, she accompanies mercenaries and survivors alike in order to remain relatively safe while studying the behavioral activities of any and all pokemon that would cross her path. Her goal is not to learn it all, that would be impossible. Dee longs to know as much as she can but her greatest desire is that her work will continue long past her and that she will be a great contributing force to knowledge of creatures living on Mi-aro.
